Mechanical performance analysis of an electromagnetic friction pendulum system based on Maxwell's principle

  • Friction pendulums typically suffer from poor uplift-restraining. To improve the uplift-restraining and enhance the energy dissipation capacity, this article proposed a composite isolation device based on electromagnetic forces. The device was constructed based on a remote control system to achieve semi-active control of the composite isolation device. This article introduces the theory and design of an electromagnetic chuck-friction pendulum system (ECFPS) and derives the theoretical equation for the ECFPS based on Maxwell's electromagnetic attraction equation to construct the proposed model. By conducting 1:3 scale tests on the electromagnetic device, the gaps between the practical, theoretical, and simulation results were analyzed, and the accuracy and effectiveness of the theoretical equation for the ECFPS were investigated. The hysteresis and uplift-restraining performance of ECFPS were analyzed by adjusting the displacement amplitude, vertical load, and input current of the simulation model. The data obtained from the scale test were consistent with the theoretical and simulated data. Notably, the hysteresis area of the ECFPS was 35.11% larger than that of a conventional friction pendulum. Lastly, a six-story planar frame structure was established through SAP2000 for a time history analysis. The isolation performances of ECFPS and FPS were compared. The results revealed that, under horizontal seismic action, the horizontal seismic response of the bottom layer of the ECFPS isolation structure is greater than that of the FPS, the horizontal vibration response of the top layer of the ECFPS isolation structure is smaller than that of the FPS, and the axial force at the bottom of the columns of the ECFPS isolation structure is smaller than that of the FPS isolation structure. Therefore, the reliable uplift-restraining performance is facilitated by the electromagnetic force generated by the device.

전자기 발사장치에 적용 가능한 코일건 설계 및 실험 (Design and Experiment of Coil gun to Apply Electomagnetic Launcher System)

  • 본 논문은 전자기 발사체에서 피투사체의 높은 발사력을 위한 코일건 설계 및 실험을 다루고 있다. 현재 코일건은 전자기 발사체에 적용하기 위해 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 코일건은 솔레노이드 형태의 코일에 전류 인가 시, 플레밍의 오른손 법칙에 의하여 발생하는 전자기력에 의해 피투사체를 추진시키는 원리이다. 피투사체의 발사력은 코일에 흐르는 전류가 생성하는 자기력과 비례한다. 전류는 코일의 수명에 영향을 미치므로 전류의 한계점이 존재한다. 따라서, 전류의 한계점을 초과하지 않고 피투사체가 받는 자기력이 최대가 되는 코일건의 설계가 요구된다. 이를 위해 먼저 코일건의 자속밀도, 자기력을 계산하고, Onderdonk's 식을 이용하여 코일의 전류 한계점을 찾는다. 솔레노이드를 설계하기 위해서 전류 한계점을 초과하지 않는 조건을 만족하며 코일건의 자기력을 최대로 가지는 권수를 알아낸다. 설계 결과에 따라 시제품을 제작하여 피투사체의 속도를 측정하기 위한 실험을 하였다. 발사된 피투사체는 CCD 카메라를 이용하여 촬영 및 분석하였으며, 평균속도 21m/s임을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 상용 전자기 해석 소프트웨어 MAXWELL을 이용한 자속 밀도 해석값와 실험값을 비교한 결과, 오차는 약 9.5%이었다.

  • Usually, the thrust of a Linear Pulse Motor(LPM) is calculated by magnetic equivalent circuit modelling method. Analytical thrust deviation exists to calculating magnetic flux density by using Permeance Modelling Method, Finite Element Method, and Velocity Electric Motive Force method. For calculating accuracy thrust by using these every method, tire thrust is calculated and compared by Lorentz Force method, Magnetic coenergy Method, and Maxwell correspondence forte Method. And that becomes Important factor at the comparison of each capacity and parameter of motor. So this study wants to compare and analyze measurement data and calculating data of the static thrust of LPM. and then we can get more accuracy method, calculating the static thrust of LPM.

  • This paper deals with control parameters deduction and dynamic analysis of hybrid thrust magnetic bearing(HTMB). The flux density at air-gap is obtained from system modeling which considers permanent magnet and electro magnet. The vertical force is derived from flux density using maxwell's stress tensor. An accurate linear model is obtained by using linear approximations of the attraction force around the nominal equilibrium point. The dynamic simulation of the HTMB using the PD controller is conducted and control parameters are deducted.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the characteristics in switched reluctance motor (SRM). 2D finite element method (FEM) considering the iron saturation and the actual switching circuit of the SRM drive is applied for the dynamic analysis. The influence of the rotor shape on the radial force and torque ripple is investigated and the optimal shape of rotor pole is proposed to enhance the torque. The radial force characteristics acting on the surface of teeth is investigated by using the Maxwell's magnetic stress tensor method.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analysis and develop theoretically the characteristics of tubular linear induction motor, which is a special industrial motor that generates directly thrust force from electrical power. The Poisson equation about vector potential which is created by the application of Maxwell electromagnetic equation with the speed considered, results in modified Bessel equation by the assumption that is applied to each region of the experimental motor. Vector potential, magnetic flux density, secondary current, and thrust force according to its region respectively were found out by substituting boundary condition for this equation and rearranging. Besides, a attendant materials, that is, thermal characteristic, which is one of the characteristics under the operation of experimental motor each part's magnetic flux distribution characteristics within active zone, the required time for reciprocating motion, and variation of power factor vs. a slip were found.

  • Vibration of a rotor-bearing system driven by an electric motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the air-gap. With the advent of new high-energy magnets together with high precision motor applications, magnetic sources of vibration are becoming more serious. This paper investigates the transient whirl responses of a rotor system with purely mechanical origins and compares it with that of magnetically coupled origins. A perturbation method is applied to model the magnetic field associated with rotor eccentricity. Electromagnetic forces are obtained by the Maxwell stress method, which utilizes the analytical expression of radial flux density distribution. The FEM was applied to a rotor-motor system to illustrate magnetically coupled effects in rotor dynamics. Results show that magnetically coupled sources significantly affect the vibration of the rotor-motor system.

  • Computational fluid dynamics analysis was carried out for thermo-chemical flow field in Arcjet thruster with mono-propellant Hydrazine ($N_2$H$_4$) as a working fluid. The theoretical formulation is based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows with thermal radiation. The electric potential field governed by Maxwell equation is loosely coupled with the fluid dynamics equations through the Ohm heating and Lorentz force. Chemical reactions were assumed being infinitely fast due to the high temperature field inside the arcjet thruster. An equilibrium chemistry module for nitrogen-hydrogen mixture and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. Thermo-physical process inside the arcjet thruster was understood from the flow field results and the performance prediction shows that the thrust force is increased by amount of 3 times with 0.6KW arc heating.

  • This paper presents dynamic characteristics in Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) with rotor eccentricity and proposes the reduction method of rotor eccentricity effects by the different winding connections. These characteristics investigations are computed by 2D transient magnetic FEM analysis coupled with external circuits. The radial and unbalance magnetic force in the stator, which is the main exciting force of the vibration, is calculated using Maxwell stress method and compared with the performance characteristics according to the serial and parallel connections of windings. The influence of winding method counteracting unbalance forces on the rotor vibration behavior is estimated by the current waveforms of the paralleled paths under rotor eccentricity.

  • Recently, in the industrial applications, the direct drive method with linear pulse motor(LPM) has been introduced and studied for practical use. This paper describes the analysis result of hybrid(HB), permanent magnet(PM), and variable reluctance(VR) type LPM. First, calculation of the flux density distribution in the air gap at these LPM by finite element method. And by mean of Maxwell's stress tensor with above magnetic flux density, calcurated the static thrust force and normal force.
