The WGJ420 fire-resistant weathering (FRW) steel is developed and manufactured with standard yield strength of 420 MPa at room temperature, which is expected to significantly enhance the performance of steel structures with excellent fire and corrosion resistances, strong seismic capacity, high strength and ductility, good resilience and robustness. In this paper, the mechanical properties of FRW steel plates and buckling behavior of columns are investigated through tests at elevated temperatures. The stress-strain curves, mechanical properties of FRW steel such as modulus of elasticity, proof strength, tensile strength, as well as corresponding reduction factors are obtained and discussed. The recommended constitutive model based on the Ramberg-Osgood relationship, as well as the relevant formulas for mechanical properties are proposed, which provide fundamental mechanical parameters and references. A total of 12 FRW steel welded I-section columns with different slenderness ratios and buckling load ratios are tested under standard fire to understand the global buckling behavior in-depth. The influences of boundary conditions on the buckling failure modes as well as the critical temperatures are also investigated. In addition, the temperature distributions at different sections/locations of the columns are obtained. It is found that the buckling deformation curve can be divided into four stages: initial expansion stage, stable stage, compression stage and failure stage. The fire test results concluded that the residual buckling capacities of FRW steel columns are substantially higher than the conventional steel columns at elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the numerical results show good agreement with the fire test results in terms of the critical temperature and maximum axial elongation. Finally, the critical temperatures between the numerical results and various code/standard curves (GB 51249, Eurocode 3, AS 4100, BS 5950 and AISC) are compared and verified both in the buckling resistance domain and in the temperature domain. It is demonstrated that the FRW steel columns have sufficient safety redundancy for fire resistance when they are designed according to current codes or standards.
This study employs three-dimensional simulation through FLAC3D to investigate the impact of installation angles on the dynamic characteristics of Triaxial Micropiles. The numerical model is validated against centrifuge test results to ensure accuracy. The findings reveal significant influences of the installation angle on the dynamic behavior of Triaxial Micropiles. Specifically, under seismic conditions such as the Capetown and San Fernando earthquakes, the lowest recorded values for peak bending moment and settlement occurred at an installation angle of 15 degrees. In contrast, when subjected to an artificial earthquake with a frequency of 2 Hz (Sine 2 Hz), Micropiles installed at 0 degrees exhibited the lowest peak bending moment, maximum axial load, and settlement values.

This study was intended to estimate the axial deformation of joint between pavement modules in the rapid-constructible modular pavement system, and to investigate the applicability of two-phase composites for a joint material, which was composed of cement paste, epoxy, or polyurethane as a matrix and sand as particles. A case which had supports under the pavement module as well as a case which the module was put on roadbed directly were considered in FEM analysis for the axial deformation. The effect of self-weight, live load, thermal change, and drying shrinkage were estimated and the thermal change was found to cause the largest deformation compared to the others. Deformation capacity of two-phase composites was predicted using the modified shear-lag model. In the analytical results for the elastic modulus and maximum tensile strain with different volume fractions of sand, 20~30 % replacement of sand was revealed to satisfy the required strain capacity with economy when if the width of joint was designed to be 15~20 mm.

A transmission tower was designed using the structural methodology to assume a simple truss behavior. However, there is a big difference between a simple truss behavior and a real one. A suitable explanation of structural stability is that it is a semi-rigid connection and not the assumed hinged connection. This study proposes an alternative structural-analysis modeling strategy for the transmission tower design. The element models that were considered were the truss element model, the beam element model, and the combined beam-truss element model. This study includes linear static analysis, free-vibration analysis, and elastic buckling analysis with respect to the design load. The results of the analysis indicate that the axial forces, axial stresses, and maximum displacements of the three analytical models are very similar. However, the bending moments and stresses of the beam element model and of the combined beam-truss element model are significantly high. The results of the free-vibration and elastic buckling analyses show that the beam-truss model can be conservatively used for the transmission tower design.

Previous studies have already shown that mouthguard is effective in protecting jaw bone, teeth and oral tissue against sports trauma. However, other than severe trauma, repetitive force, such as disorders like clenching, cause teeth or oral tissue damage. These kinds of disorders usually present pathologic attrition in the posterior teeth, resorption in alveolar bone, loss of teeth and destruction of occlusion. Wearing a mouthguard is believed to be effective in preventing these disorders. But its effect is not examined thoroughly enough. The purpose of this study is to identify whether mouthguard is effective in reducing strain caused by clenching. Mandibular first molars in the normal occlusal relationship without any history of dental treatment were chosen. Biaxial type strain gauge was placed on the buccal surface of the tooth. Having maximum occlusal force, measured by load cell, as a standard, clenching intensity were divided into three stages; moment of slightly tooth contact, medium bite force (50% of maximum bite force), maximum bite force. Strain occurring in dentition in each stage with and without mouthguard was measured. Changes in strain (on dentition) between each stage and difference in strain, between with or without mouthguard were recorded by PCD-300 analyzer and PCD-30 soft ware. The data was statistically analyzed by Wilcoxon signed rank test. The following results were drawn; Without mouthguard, strain given on dentition increased as the clenching force increased. With mouthguard, strain given on dentition also increased as the clenching force increased. With mouthguard, strain decreased, in all cases of clenching force stages. Data on the moment of slightly tooth contact stage, had no statistical significance. However, with mouthguard, 50-90% of decrease in strain could be obtained in maximum occlusal force, compared to the group without mouthguard. Mouthguard decreased the strain on the dentition, caused by clenching. Therefore, mouthguard seems to be effective in preventing damage on dentition, by acting against clenching, which occurs both consciously and unconsciously during sports activities.
In recent years, the availability of high-strength reinforcing and prestressing steels leads us to build economically and efficiently designed concrete structural members. One of critical problems faced to the structural engineers dealing with these types of structural member is controls of crack width that is used as a criterion for the serviceability in the limit state design. Especially, flexural cracking must be controlled to secure the structural safety and to improve the durability as well as serviceability of the load carving members. The proposed method utilizes the results of pure tension test in which tensile loads are applied both side of specimen, done by Ikki. The bond characteristics of deformed reinforcing bar under pure tension is considered by the area of concrete and rib area. The results of proposed method are compared with the test data and the results show that the proposed method can take into account the dimensions, variation of sectional properties, and direction of reinforcing and gives more accurate maximum bond stress and corresponding relative slip than the existing methods. the characteristics of bonding is considered by using dimensionless slip magnitude and effective reinforcement ratio. The validity of the proposed equation is verified by test experimental data.

In the present work, a number of advanced three-dimensional (3D) parametric finite element numerical analyses have been conducted to study the behaviour of a single pile in consolidating ground from coupled consolidation analyses. A single pile with typical minimum and maximum ranges of fill height and clay stiffness has been modelled. The computed results demonstrate that the higher the height of the fill above the clay surface and the smaller the stiffness of the clay, the higher the dragloads and the negative skin friction-induced pile settlements. It has been found that the development of dragloads and pile settlement is more governed by the stiffness of the clay rather than the height of the fill. Positive shaft resistance is mobilised only after the average degree of consolidation is larger than 50%. Although the pile is installed when the degree of consolidation is 50% or more, relatively large negative skin friction can nevertheless develop on the pile. On the other hand, when a load is applied on the pile experiencing an increase in the negative skin friction with time during consolidation, the pile undergoes a large increase in the final settlement of up to 95% compared to that of a pile without axial load on the pile head. The allowable pile capacity when there is negative skin friction on the pile is reduced by about 4-11% compared to a pile without negative skin friction.

This study was focused on the effect of concrete strength and lateral ties of concrete columns subjected to eccentric compressive loads. The twenty-four concrete columns with $200mm{\times}200mm$ square cross-section were tested. The main variables were concrete strength, spacing and configuration of lateral ties, and eccentricity ratios. From the experiment, the followings were investigated ; 1) In all cases, it was observed that the increase of concrete compressive strength led to the decrease of ductility. Also, as the eccentricity ratios increased, the effect of ductility enhancement by lateral ties decreased. 2) As the ties spacing decreased from 100mm to 30mm, the magnitude of axial load acting on the concrete column showed an enhancement of 1.1~1.2 times and the descending curve after a peak moment presented a smooth decline. 3) The high-strength concrete columns required a design of lateral ties to increase the volumetric ratios and density of tie spacing to sustain a proper strength and ductility. Accordingly, regardless of concrete strength, the current AIK design code to specify the maximum tie spacing of concrete columns was proven to lead to the poor strength and ductility for seismic design. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new seismic design code that connects volumetric ratios and tie spacing of concrete columns with concrete strength.

In this paper, the characteristics of fatigue crack growth in the spot welded joint of the same kinds of specimens($HS{\times}HS,\;GA{\times}GAB$) and different kinds of specimens($HS{\times}GA,\;HS{\times}GAB$) which consist of dual phase high strength steel(HS) and monogalvanized steel(GA) were examined with static tension tests and axial tension fatigue tests. Some of the important results are as follows : 1. The divergence of tensile strengths among the same and different kinds of spot welds under the same conditions is comparatively low regardless of the difference of stiffness. 2. At the low load bevel and long life legion, the fatigue crack is initiated near the nugget. However, in the high load level and short life region, it occurs a tittle far from the nugget. 3. It has shown a linear relation between maximum stress Intensity factor, Kmax and fatigue life, $N_f$ among each of the spot welds and has gathered in a narrow band on the log-log graph paper. $Kmax=H{\cdot}{N_f}^{P}$ where H and P are a material constant.
