A multi-megawatt long pulse ion source (LPIS) of neutral beam injector was developed for the KSTAR. Beam extraction experiments of the LPIS were carried out at the neutral beam test stand (NBTS). Design requirements for the ion source were 120 kV/65 A deuterium beam and a 300 s pulse length. A maximum ion density of $9.1310^{11}$$cm^{-3}$ was measured by using electric probes, and an optimum arc efficiency of 0.46 A/kW was estimated with ion saturation current of the probes, arc power, and total beam area. An arcing problem, caused by the structural defect of decelerating grid supporter, in the third gap was solved by the blocking of backstream ion particles, originated from the plasma in the neutralizer duct, through the unnecessary spaces on the side of grid supporter. A maximum drain power of 1.5 MW (i.e. 70 kV/21 A) with hydrogen was measured for a pulse duration of 0.5 s. Optimum beam perveance was ranged from 0.75 to 0.85. An improved design of accelerator for the effective control of beam particle trajectory should provide higher beam perveance.
We have analyzed the effect of the substrate removal and packaging schemes on light output characteristics in InGaN/Sapphire LEDs. The removal of the sapphire substrate helps to dissipate the heat generated in the junction, but the advantage comes only with the detrimental effect of degrading the photon extraction efficiency. If the substrate-removed chip is attached to a metallic mount with good thermal conductivity, the maximum driving current is increased drastically, producing significantly increased light output and therefore compensating the photon extraction efficiency degradation. On a dielectric mount with a relatively poor thermal conductivity, however, it produces smaller light output, over most input current range, than the regular type of chips with the sapphire substrate remaining. Thus, for low power applications, the regular chips may be preferred over the substrate-removed chips, regardless of the chip mounts employed.
The optimization and microwave assisted extraction of stem bark of Terminalia arjuna, quantitative estimation of the marker compounds arjunic acid and arjunolic acid using HPTLC and the evaluation of free radical scavenging activity has been performed in this study. The central composite design was used for optimization and the values of parameters for optimized batch of microwave assisted extraction were 1000 W (Power), 3 minutes (Time) and 1/120 (Solid/solvent ratio). The solvent system to carry out the HPTLC was toluene: acetic acid: ethyl acetate (5: 5: 0.5) and quantitative estimation was done using standard equations obtained from the marker compounds. The in-vitro free radical scavenging activity was performed spectrophotometrically using ascorbic acid as standard. The value of estimated percentage yield of arjunic acid and arjunolic acid was 1.42% and 1.52% which upon experimentation was obtained as 1.38% and 1.51% respectively. The DPPH assay of the different batches of microwave assisted extraction and marker compounds taken suggested that the marker compounds arjunic acid and the arjunolic acid were responsible for the free radical scavenging activity as the batch having the maximum percentage yield of the marker compounds showed best free radical scavenging effect as compared to standard ascorbic acid. The $IC_{50}$ value of the optimized batch was found to be 24.72 while that of the standard ascorbic acid was 29.83. Hence, the yield of arjunic acid and arjunolic acid has direct correlation with the free radical scavenging activity of stem bark extract of Terminalia arjuna and have potential to serve as active lead compounds for free radical scavenging activity.
This study investigated the changes of antioxidant activity and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory effect of Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) 100% methanol extracts by various heat treatment. The contents of total phenolic and flavonoid compounds in methanol extract tended to increased gradually with the rise of temperature to 180$^{\circ}C$. The maximum yield of gallic acid (51.52 ${\pm}$ 2.17mg/g extract weight) and quercetin (13.39 ${\pm}$ 0.03mg/g extract weight) were obtained with extraction temperature of 180$^{\circ}C$ for 120min. In addition, the improving extraction efficiency resulted in the increased biological activities, such as electronic donation ability (EDA, 90.36${\pm}$ 0.57%), reducing power (Abs 1.14) and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory effect (92.14 ${\pm}$ 1.14%). Overall, the results of this study indicate that the optimum conditions for the extraction process were an extraction temperature at 180$^{\circ}C$ for 120 min, and will provide the basis for future research on the improving extraction yield of phenolic and flavonoid compounds.

This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations, starting of large induction motor and three-phase fault in the system, and investigates voltage variations of the system for disturbances. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show the variation of the generator torque, the generator rotor speed, the pitch angle, terminal voltage, system voltage, fault current, and real/reactive power output, etc. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations, starting of a large induction motor causes a voltage sag due to a large starting current, and a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.
Since a gas turbine is still a significant contributor to peak time, it is very important to tune the gains of P. I. D to get a maximum power and stability within permissible limits. In the gas turbine, the main control loop must adjust the fuel flow to ensure the correct output power and frequency. but it is not easy, because the control loop is composed of many subsystems. In this paper we acquire a transfer function based on the operations data of Gun-san gas turbine and study to apply a loop compensation type 2-DOF PID controller tuning by neural-network to control loop of gas turbine to reduce phenomena caused by integral and derivative actions through simulation. We obtained satisfactory results to disturbances of subcontrol loop such as, fuel flow, air flow, turbine extraction temperature.
This paper was dealt with the experiments of the traverse flow and excited CW $CO_2$ Laser. The discharge and laser output characteristics of CW $CO_2$ laser has been investigated. A stable resonator was adopted for the power extraction from the length of 0.9m discharge region with the gap length of 15mm. The maximum output power of about 100W was obtained at the first experiment with the total filling pressure of 30torr, $CO_2$ : $N_2$ : He = 1:3:16.

In this paper, we study the prediction of depth and width of a defect in steam generator tube in nuclear power plant using neural network. To this end, we first generate eddy current testing (ECT) signals for 4 defect patterns of SG tube: I-In type, I-Out type, V-In type, and V-Out type. In particular, we generate 400 ECT signals for various widths and depths for each defect type by the numerical analysis program based on finite element modeling. From those generated ECT signals, we extract new feature vectors for the prediction of defect size, which include the angle between the two points where the maximum impedance and half the maximum impedance are achieved. Using the extracted feature vector, multi-layer perceptron with one hidden layer is used to predict the size of defects. Through the computer simulation study, it is shown that the proposed method achieves decent prediction performance in terms of maximum error and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE).
How to measure the creepage distance of an insulator quickly and accurately is a problem for the power industry at present, and the noticeable concern is that the high voltage insulation equipment cannot be measured online in the charged state. In view of this situation, we develop an on-line measurement system of creepage distance for high voltage insulators based on binocular stereo vision. We have proposed a method of generating linear structured light using a conical off-axis mirror. The feasibility and effect of two ways to solve the interference problem of strong sunlight have been discussed, one way is to use bandpass filters to enhance the contrast ratio of linear structured light in the images, and the other way is to process the images with adaptive threshold segmentation and feature point extraction. After the system is calibrated, we tested the measurement error of the on-line measurement system with a composite insulator sample. Experimental results show that the maximum relative error is 1.45% and the average relative error is 0.69%, which satisfies the task requirement of not more than 5% of the maximum relative error.
In this study, we used the ultrasonic extraction process as a method to extract antioxidant substances from kudzu, and measured the content of iso-flavonoids puerarin, daidzein, daidzin contained in kudzu. The response surface methodology which is a statistical analysis method for optimizing the extraction amount of iso-flavonoids from the kudzu and the process condition for maximizing the yield was applied. It is the final objective of this study to effectively derive the condition of the process that matches the target response with a minimum number of experiments and analyze the effect of each process condition on the response. In the response surface methodology, the central composite design was applied and the optimum condition was analyzed, and the three independent variables were set to ultrasonic irradiation time, volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water, ultrasonic irradiation power. Using the response surface methodology, the optimum conditions with the maximum extraction yield and the content of iso-flavonoids were evaluated as ultrasonic irradiation time (24.75 min), ethanol / ultrapure water volume ratio (39.75 vol%), ultrasonic irradiation power (592.36 W). The overall satisfaction level appears as high as 0.8938, which is recognized at a significance level within 5%. As a result of analyzing the optimization process, it was confirmed that the ultrasonic irradiation time is the factor that most affects the responses.
