The Collins cryocooler is numerically analysed with the optimization technique, and the optimum operating and design conditions are searched. This paper shows that liquefied helium quantity has an external maximum w.r.t. the total mass flow rate, the mass flow rates through expander and the capacities of heat exchangers. The liquefied helium quantity increases as the compressor exit pressure of the cryocooler does. The maximum quantity of liquefied helium and the maximum coefficient of performance have been found to exist in extremum, depending on the ratios of each heat exchanger capicities to the total one. At the optimum condition, the capacity of heat exchanger in high temperature region is larger than that in low temperature region.

To study the combustion characteristics of forest fuel by fire intensity, the experiment of combustion characteristics on Pinus Densiflora living leaves, which is the weakest species to the forest fire, was delivered, using variables of heat flux(25 kW/$m^2$, 50 kW/$m^2$, 75 kW/$m^2$). With the equipment of Cone calorimeter, the characteristics of ignition, heat, smoke release, CO and $CO_2$ release, and mass loss were analyzed. Pinus Densiflora living leaves containing moisture of 60.66% were not ignited at the heat flux of variables 25 kW/$m^2$, 50 kW/$m^2$, 75 kW/$m^2$. In proportion to the heat flux value, heat release amount and heat release rate reached maximum value rapidly: higher variables came to the maximum by the half rapidity and the maximum value were twice higher than the former lower variables respectively. As for the smoke release, the less heat flux the variable had, the more smoke release it had, due to incomplete combustion. The release amount of CO and $CO_2$ had more maximum value as the heat flux increased and more radiant heat meaned more carbon oxide. When the forest fire breaks out, therefore, a great amount of CO and $CO_2$ will be released by Pinus Densiflora.

The objective of this study is to numerically investigate the thermal characteristics of an automobile exhaust-based heat exchanger for automotive thermoelectric power generation with various exhaust gas mass flow rates and temperatures. The heat exchanger for automotive thermoelectric power generation has a square-type pin installed inside, so the maximum amount of heat can be transferred to the thermoelectric element from the heat energy coming from the automobile exhaust gas. The exhaust gas mass flow rate changed from 0.01, to 0.02, to 0.03 kg/s, and the exhaust gas temperature changed from 400, to 450, to 500, to 550, to $600^{\circ}C$, respectively. A numerical simulation was conducted by using the commercial program ANSYS CFX v17.0. Consequently, the exhaust gas pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet of the heat exchanger is determined according to the flow rate of the exhaust gas. When the mass flow rate of the exhaust gas increased, the pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet of the heat exchanger increased, but the exhaust gas pressure difference between the inlet of the heat exchanger and the outlet did not vary with the exhaust gas temperature. Therefore, in order to obtain the maximum surface temperature from the heat exchanger, the exhaust gas mass flow rate should be lower, and the exhaust gas temperature should be higher.
A Beta-type Stirling engine is developed and tested on the operation stability and cycle performance. The flow rate for cooling water ranges from 300 to 1500 ml/min, while the temperature of heat source changes from 300 to $500^{\circ}C$. The internal pressure, working temperatures, and operation speed are measured and the engine performance is estimated from them. In the experiment, the rise in the temperature of heat source reduces internal pressure but increases operation speed, and overall, enhances the power output. The faster coolant flow rate contributes to the high temperature limit for stable operation, the cycle efficiency due to the alleviated thermal expansion of power piston, and the heat input to the engine, respectively. The experimental Stirling engine showed the maximum power output of 12.1 W and the cycle efficiency of 3.0 % when the cooling flow is 900 ml/min and the heat source temperature is $500^{\circ}C$.
This research investigated the variation of density, the weight loss, dimensional shrinkage and heat conduction by the heating rate and keeping time at maximum temperature of woodceramics, when sawdust boards made from thinned logs of Pinus densiflora, Larix kaemferi and Pinus koraiensis were impregnated with phenol-formaldehyde resin, and then were formed by heating rate ($2^{\circ}C/min{\sim}6^{\circ}C/min$) and keeping time at maximum temperature (1~5 h). As the heating rate increased, the density and thickness shrinkage decreased, but weight loss and linear shrinkage increased. The more the keeping time at maximum temperature, the greater the linear shrinkage and thickness shrinkage. The heating conduction was superior at the heating rate is $2^{\circ}C/min$ and the keeping time at maximum temperature of 2 hs.

The extinction characteristics of low strain rate normal gravity (1-g) nonpremixed methane-air flames were studied numerically and experimentally. A time-dependent axisymmetric two-dimensional (2D) model considering buoyancy effects and radiative heat transfer was developed to capture the structure and extinction limits of 1-g flames. One-dimensional (1D) computations were also conducted to provide information on 0-g flames. A 3-step global reaction mechanism was used in both the 1D and 2D computations to predict the measured extinction limit and flame temperature. A specific maximum heat release rate was introduced to quantify the local flame strength and to elucidate the extinction mechanism. Overall fractional contribution by each term in the energy equation to the heat release was evaluated to investigate the multi-dimensional structure and radiative extinction of 1-g flames. Images of flames were taken for comparison with the model calculation undergoing extinction. The two-dimensional numerical model was validated by comparing flame temperature profiles and extinction limits with experiments and ID computation results. The 2D computations yielded insight into the extinction mode and flame structure of 1-g flames. Two combustion regimes depending on the extinction mode were identified. Lateral heat loss effects and multi-dimensional flame structure were also found. At low strain rates of 1-g flame ('Regime A'), the flame is extinguished from the weak outer flame edge, which is attributed to multi-dimensional flame structure and flow field. At high strain rates, ('Regime B'), the flame extinction initiates near the flame centerline due to an increased diluent concentration in reaction zone, which is the same as the extinction mode of 1D flame. These two extinction modes could be clearly explained with the specific maximum heat release rate.

Effects of the changes of a film cooling mass flow rate and operating conditions on the heat flux characteristics of the subscale calorimeter were studied. A film cooling ring with twelve orifices is inserted between the injector head and the calorimeter. The calorimeter is composed of nineteen cooling channels. When a mass flow rate of film cooling is 10.5 % of a main fuel mass flow rate, maximum heat flux at the nozzle throat is decreased by 30% compared to that without film cooling. In the OD3(of-design point) test result, maximum heat flux at the nozzle throat is increased by 31% compared to that of the DP(design point) test when a film cooling flow rate is zero.

The study performed an actual fire experiment in order to propose the heat release rate of automobile that is the most basic architectural element for the fire safety design in a tunnel, whose importance has been recognized as the underground traffic tunnels are planned in Korean metropolitan cities. The heat release rate of a van is measured by the large scale calorimeter, in which the law of oxygen consumption is applied, and the fire expansion characteristics in a tunnel by placing two passenger cars nearby one another in the tunnel. As the results, the heat release rate of the van was revealed to be 5.9 MW, and carbon monoxide was emitted 482 ppm at a maximum. In case of two passenger car experiment for the fire expansion characteristics, the adjacent car was ignited about 3 minutes 30 seconds after the fire occurrence, and the complete fire was developed after 15 minutes. The maximum heat release was 9 MW. The results from the actual fire experiment can be an important input data for future quantitative analysis as well as an element applicable to a tunnel disaster preventive equipment design.

This study investigated the physical properties of warm up yarns and their knitted fabrics including the dye affinity and color fastness to washing of these knitted fabrics according to the various dyeing times and temperatures on dyeing process. The results were summarized as follows. The tenacity of Nylon/PP warm-up yarn was 4g/d and breaking strain was 4.5%. The wet and dry thermal shrinkages were higher than those of PET warm-up yarn. The maximum heat flow rate(Qmax) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric was lower than that of PET warm-up knitted fabric and heat keeping rate(a) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric was higher as 47% than that of PET warm-up knitted fabric. It was shown that the shape retention and wearing comfort of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric were better than those of PET warm-up knitted fabric. The dye-affinity(K/S) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric showed maximum value at the dyeing condition of 40minute or 50minute dyeing time with $80^{\circ}C$ dyeing temperature, but PET warm-up knitted fabric showed maximum value at the 30minute or 40minute with $110^{\circ}C$ dyeing temperature. Finally, the color fastness to washing of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric showed good value as between 4 and 5 grade.

We develop heat exchanger modules for a multi-burner boiler. The heat exchanger module is kind of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). This heat recovery system has 4 heat exchanger modules. The 1st module consists of 27 bare tubes due to high temperature exhaust gas and the others consist of 27 finned tubes. The maximum steam pressure of each module is 10 bar and tested steam pressure is 4 bar. In order to test these heat exchanger modules, we make a 0.5t/h flue tube boiler (LNG, $40\;Nm^3/h$). The test results of 100% boiler load show that heat transfer rate of 1st module is 49.7 Mcal/h which is 34% of total heat transfer rate and that of 2nd module is 82.6 Mcal/h which is 57% of total heat transfer rate. The reason of higher the heat transfer rate of 2nd module than that of 1st module is that the 2nd heat exchanger module has finned tubes instead of bare tube. The boiler load 50% results show that only 2 heat exchanger modules are needed to extract the heat from the flue gas to water. From this result, it is very important of optimum design of the first finned tube among all water tubes.
