A novel approach to modeling concrete behavior at the stage of its maturing is presented in this paper. This approach assumes that at any point in the structure, concrete is composed of a set of layers that are activated in time layer by layer, based on amount of released heat that is produced during process of the concrete's maturing. This allows one to assume that each newly created layer has nominal stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strengths. Hence introduction of explicit stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strength dependencies on time, or equivalent time state parameter, is not needed. Analysis of plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, especially massive ones, subjected to any kind of straining in their early stage of existence, mostly due to external loads but especially by thermal loading and shrinkage, is the goal of the approach. In this article a simple elasto-plastic softening model with creep is used for each layer and a general layered model behavior is illustrated on one-dimensional (1D) examples.
Many studies on broccoli have analyzed the functional components and their functionality in terms of antioxidant and anticancer activities; however, these studies have focused on the florets of different varieties. Investigation of the functionality of broccoli by-products such as leaves, stems, and leaf stems from different cultivars and harvest dates might be valuable for utilizing waste materials as useful food components. Total phenolics and sulforaphane contents, and antioxidant and anticancer activities were measured in the leaves, leaf stems, and stems of early-maturing (Kyoyoshi), middle-maturing (Myeongil 96), and late-maturing broccoli (SK3-085) at different harvest dates. Total phenolics in the leaves of Kyoyoshi were about 1.8-fold to 12.1-fold higher than those in all of the other cultivars and parts. The sulforaphane content of Kyoyoshi was 2.8-fold higher in the stems than in the florets. Antioxidant activities using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and oxygen radical absorbance capacity were highest in Kyoyoshi, followed by Myeongil 96 and SK3-085, most notably in the leaves harvested at the immature stage. Inhibition activity of cell growth against the NCI-H1299 cell lines was highest in the leaves of all cultivars in decreasing order of florets, leaf stems, and stems. The leaves harvested in October (nonflowering stage) had the highest inhibition activity, while those harvested in January (mature broccoli) showed the lowest. The results of this study demonstrate that broccoli leaves and stems contain high levels of total phenolics, and high antioxidant and anticancer activities and can provide opportunities for early-maturing broccoli as functional fresh raw vegetables.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of differently maturing corn hybrids on silage production and milk production per unit area in the northern part of Japan, where grain development occurs under decreasing ambient temperature. Both hybrids were harvested at the same time. The stages of maturity for the early-maturing hybrids (EH; 80 d relative maturity) and the mid-maturing hybrids (MH; 93 d relative day) were early dent and late dough stage, respectively. The plant yields for MH were higher than those for EH. The dry matter (DM) content of MH was lower than that for EH, and the effluent loss for MH silage was greater than that for EH silage. Therefore, the DM yields of prepared silage per area were similar for both treatments. Twelve multiparous mid-lactation Holstein cows ($58{\pm}13$ days in milk) were fed diets based on EH or MH silage in a crossover design with two 3-week periods. Cows were fed 3 kg of hay crop silage (DM basis) and either EH or MH silage ad libitum, and concentrates were supplied to meet NRC requirement for dairy cows. Silage DM intake for EH was found to be higher (p<0.05) than that for MH (10.0 vs. 9.1 kg/day). Milk production and milk composition for EH were similar to those for MH. Feed efficiency per total feed intake was similar in both treatments, although the feed efficiency per concentrate intake tended to be higher for the EH than that for the MH diet. These results indicate that differences in maturation in corn hybrids affect the effluent production of silage and the silage intake of dairy cows. It may be advantageous to plant early hybrid corn with a reduction in effluent production of silage as well as a reduction in purchased feed costs for dairy cows under the climatic conditions of the northern part of Japan.
To develop forecasting methods of rice sheath blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani, two rice cultivars Jinheung (Japonica type) and Yushin (Tongil type) were used from 1976 to 1981. Severity of rice sheath blight disease at maturing stage was estimated by top lesion height, percentage of top lesion height vs. plant height in July and lesion index on September 11. The relationship between top lesion height on July 11 and degree of damage at maturing stage for a cultivar Yushin was represented by the equation of Y=4.64x-13.2, and $r=.840^{**}$, where Y is degree of damage by shea4h blight at maturing stage and x is top lesion height on July 11. Considering the percentage of infected hills/stems was rapidly increased from July 11 to August 1, the most effective period and time for fungicide spray were considered July 15 and July 25 or July 25 and August 5.
This study was carried out to investigate the histomorphological changes and the electrophoretic patterns of egg components, obtained from 100 of 2-year-old female catfishes (Silurus asotus). Female Korean catfishes collected in the vicinity of Chollabukdo have synchronous ovaries which discontinously ovulate eggs during the breeding season (from late May until early July). The fishes were killed by severing the spinal cord just posterior to the head after immobilization with tricaine methanesulfonate (MS 222). Especially, the light microscopic and ultrastructural changes of ooplasm and follicular membranes of oocytes, were examined by means of light and transmission electron microscopy. The size of the nucleoli and number of the yolk granules increased as the oocyte groved. Yolk granules were deposited in the oocyte as fluid Due to tile presence of large early and late maturing oocytes, their ovaries were enlarged, transparent, granular and greenish in color. As the percentages of fish in late maturing oocyte (LMO) and ripe oocyte (RO) stage increased from March to April, mean gonadosomatic index (GSI) values (19.95%) increased. Zona radiata changed from squamous into cuboid in shape in the early maturing oocyte (EMO) stage. Processes, microvilli, from the zona radiata and from the oocyte grow, and make contact with each other in the pore canals of the zona radiata during vitellogenesis, but are withdrawn as the zona radials becomes more compact and devoid of pore canals during oocyte maturation. Seasonal changes in the microscopic appearance of the ovaries were well correlated with those in both gonadosomatic index and macroscopic appearance. The main cytological changes such as increase in size of cell, nucleus, nucleolus, and increase in number of nucleoli and mitochondria demonstrated with electron microscopy in the previtellogenic oocytes of Korean catfish, provided evidences for important synthetic processes in an early preparatory phase of oocyte development. The electrophoretic pattern of major band in mature stage was much thicker (24 k, 66 k, 90-110k dalton) than that in previtellogenic phase.
In order to investigate the growth pattern of sugar beet in Korea, this experiment was conducted using variety GW 359 at Tae-kwan-ryong, Suwon and Cheju. The results are summarized as follows; 1. At Tae-kwan-ryong, early growth stage was relatively long and during higher growing stage plants showed resistance to leaf spot disease, and vegetative maturing started from about September 15th. Top and root growth showed normal curve but it is considered that the early maturing variety will reduce the early growing period and prolong the vegetative maturing period. 2. At Suwon, the growth of top part was favorable until late of July but hereafter leaf spot disease brought death to the 25-35 leaves of top part and regenerated again in October. Consequently, sugar content of root showed changes from decrease to increase. Root weight increased from July to harvest season continunousely but showed abnormal growing curve. This indicates that Suwon is not proper place for sugar beet cultivation. 3. At Cheju, early growing stage was shorter about 15 days than that of Tae-kwan-ryong. Normal growth and long-maturing days favored the sugar accumulation in roots. But it is necessary to introduce non-bolting variety in autumn-winter season culture. 4. Sugar beet could be cultivated economically at Tae-kwan-ryong with 600-800 meter altitude for summer crop and at Cheju for winter crop, but Suwon is considered to be unfavorable for sugar beet.
Lodging and rainfalls during ripening periods and ripening patterns were studied by the different maturing varieties and different seeding dates in labour saving-direct seeding cultivation of rice. Period of emergency in earlier seeding plot was longer than later seeding plot and standing seedlings per unit area and rate of standing seedlings were more and high by the later seeding date. Number of panicles per unit area was decreased by the later seeding dates. On the other hand, the rate of effective tillers was lowest at later seeding plot. Days from seeding to flowering were shortened by the later seeding dates due to the increase of daily growth temperature and reduce of day length. There was much rainfalls during ripening period of early maturing varietal group, however not much rainfalls during ripening period of medium and late maturing varietal groups. The degree of lodging at field was severer by the amount of rainfalls during ripening period. Earlier seeding plots and earlier maturing varietal groups. of used varieties were revealed heavier lodging compared to later seeding plots and later maturing varietal groups. Yield and yield related characteristics were high and good by the earlier seeding dates, especially ripening rate was clear.
This study was conducted to determine the time and methods of predicting tobacco yield. by analysis of climatic factors in the period of tobacco season during 8 years from 1979 to 1986 at the Daegu district, south eastern part of Korean peninsular. The results obtained are summarised as follows: 1. Climatic factors of each month which have influence on tobacco yield were the amount of rainfall in May and sunshine hours in July. Among climatic factors at tobacco growth stages, the precipitation yield. But these meteorological factors had different effect on variety. 2. Between tobacco yields and climatic factors by even values of each month, tobacco yield was estimated by equations, flue cured tobacco :Y=190.6-5.230X1+ 0.474$\times$2 + 0.142X3(Xl : Minimum temperature of April, X2: Precipitation during May, X3:Sunshine duration on July), air cured tobacco : Y= 195.3-0.447Xl + 0.363$\times$2 + 0.l12$\times$3(Xl :Maximum temperature of May, X2:Precipitation during May. X3: Sunshine duration on July). While between tobacco yield and climatic factors at different growth stage, predicting equation of yield could be derived, flue cured tobacco : Y=205.8+0.510Xl +0.289$\times$2 + 0.305$\times$3 (Xl :Average temperature during the early growth stage, X2 :Precipitation during the early and maximum growth stage, X3 : Sunshine hours during the leaf and tips maturing stage), air cured tobacco Y=194.T-0.498Xl 10.615$\times$2+0.121$\times$3(Xl ;Maximum temperature during the transplanting time, X2 : Precipitation during the maximum growth stage, X3 : Sunshine hours during the leaf and tips maturing stage).
Five soybean varieties of two early maturing Karikei73 and SS 79168, and three late maturing Tohoku76, Baegunkong and Jangbaegkong were used and evaluated in the study. Of the varieties examined, Karikei73 was characterized by the delayed leaf senescence. The varieties were planted in the pots of 1/3500 a filled with volcanic ash soil at the experimental fields of the National Institute of Agrobiological Resources in Japan. Major agronomic characteristics including the activity of nitrogen fixation for root nodules during the grain filling period were measured. Measurements during the stages were followed by the stage of development descriptions for soybeans made by Fehr and Carviness (1977). The acetylene reducing activity (ARA) per dry weight of root nodule measured using acetylene reduction assays was the highest at R4-R4.5 with decreasing trends thereafter for the early matruing varieties, while it continuously increased up to R6 but decreased rapidly thereafter for the late maturing varieties. The dry weights of root nodules and all parts of the host plant at each stage checked were greater in the late maturing varieties being the same in ARA per pot.
In the present study, different expression of protein from Taekwang was revealed by 2-DE, and expressions of protein on each week after flowering was investigated. After analysis of expression of protein, MALDI-TOF was executed to identify expected protein function. Results revealed that there were three patterns of expression of protein during the maturing. The first pattern was that proteins were gradually expressed as up-regulation from 1 week to 6 week. The second pattern was that proteins were expressed gradually from 1 week to 5 week and then it started down-regulation in 6 week. The last pattern was that proteins were gradually as up-regulation from 1 week to 3 week and then down-regulation until 6 week. This phenomenon suggests that young stage has more protein related to correspondence mechanism against disease and growth and then maturing stage has more expression of protein related to storage protein. In MALDI-TOF analysis, p24 oleosin isoform A protein was identified that relates oleosin which is synthetic product in oil body. This protein spot increased gradually until 5 week and then decreased after 5 week. It explained that the protein is active until maturing stage to protect oil in seed and then its activity has gradually degraded. This result may be expected that a protein, related to growth of a seed has increased until maturing and then a seed fills up with a storage protein.
