In general, the concentration of constituents can be more accurately measured in x-ray fluorescence analysis of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy by reducing and correcting the matrix effect with standard ingot samples. Because of the difficult the treatment at a high temperature in preparing the ingot samples of various concentrations, several standard specimens were prepared by mixing the powders of the metallic oxides in certain proportions and pressing them with a costant pressure. With the metallic oxide specimens thus obtained, different matrix coefficients were calculate from the intensities of the strength of the x-ray fluorescence and the concentration of the substances. It is found that effects of Fe and Cr on Ni are absorption rich and effects of Fe and Ni on Cr are enhancement rich, whereas Ni enhances Fe Fluorescence but Cr absorves Fe K${\alpha}$ line. And the x-ray fluorescence intensities were compared and analyzed between the metallic oxides and the ingot samples.

The chemical ingredients such as $SiO_2,\;Al_2O_3,\;MgO,\;Fe_2O_3,\;CaO$ and $TiO_2$in silica minerals were determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry using a matrix correction method. The synthesized standards mixed with reagent grade oxides and the sample were diluted by fusing with 16 times $Li_2B_4O_7$. The matrix effects correlated among the ingredients were corrected by the empirical coefficient method based on the Lucas-Tooth and Pyne model. The analytical results showed relatively good agreement between the different sets of coefficients but were improved with increasing the number of standard. The accuracy of this method was also examined with the standard reference material of NIST.

In part-based image representation, the partial shapes of an object are represented as basis vectors, and an image is decomposed as a linear combination of basis vectors where the coefficients of those basis vectors represent the partial (or local) feature of an object. In this paper, a face recognition for occluded faces is proposed in which face images are represented using non-negative matrix factorization(NMF), one of part-based representation techniques, and recognized using an artificial neural network technique. Standard NMF, projected gradient NMF and orthogonal NMF were used in part-based representation of face images, and their performances were compared. Learning vector quantizer were used in the recognizer where Euclidean distance was used as the distance measure. Experimental results show that proposed recognition is more robust than the conventional face recognition for the occluded faces.
Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) containing certain amounts of H-${\beta}$ zeolite for pervaporation were manufactured by using a solution casting protocol. These zeolite-embedded membranes were then characterized with scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and swelling tests. The membrane separation performance has been examined by means of isopropanol (IPA) dewatering from its highly concentrated aqueous solutions via response surface methodology (RSM). The results have demonstrated that the influences of feed IPA composition (85-95 wt.%), feed temperature ($50-70^{\circ}C$), zeolite loading (15-25 wt.%) and their interactive influences are all statistically significant on both pervaporation flux ($398-1228g/m^2{\cdot}h$) and water/isopropanol separation factor (617-2001). The quadratic models based on the RSM analysis have performed excellently to correlate experimental data with very high determination coefficients and very low relative standard deviations. The optimal pervaporation predictions given by using the RSM models demonstrate a total flux of $953g/m^2{\cdot}h$ and separation factor of 1458, and are excellently verified by experimental results. As reflected by these results, PVA MMMs embedded with hydrophilic $H-{\beta}$ zeolite entities have performed considerably better than its pure counterpart and indicated great potential for isopropanol dehydration applications.
In this study, the thermoelastic properties of poly lactic acid (PLA) based nanocomposites are predicted by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and a micromechanics model. The stereocomplex mixed with L-lactic acid (PLLA) and D-lactic acid (PDLA) is modeled as matrix phase and a single walled carbon nanotube is embedded as reinforcement. The glass transition temperature, elastic moduli and thermal expansion coefficients of pure matrix and nanocomposites unit cells are predicted though ensemble simulations according to the hydrolysis. In micromechanics model, the double inclusion (D-I) model with a perfect interface condition is adopted to predict the properties of nanocomposites at the same composition. It is found that the stereocomplex nanocomposites show prominent improvement in thermal stability and interfacial adsorption regardless of the hydrolysis. Moreover, it is confirmed from the comparison of MD simulation results with those from the D-I model that the interface between CNT and the stereocomplex matrix is slightly weak in nature.
Solid Microencapsulated Fuel (SMF) is a type of solid fuel rod design that disperses TRISO coated fuel particles directly into a kind of matrix. SMF is expected to provide improved performance because of the elimination of cladding tube and associated failure mechanisms. This study focused on the neutronics and some of the fuel cycle characteristics of SMF by using OpenMC. Two kinds of SMFs have been designed and evaluated - fuel particles dispersed into a silicon carbide matrix and fuel particles dispersed into a zirconium matrix. A 7×7 fuel assembly with increased rod diameter transformed from the standard NHR200-II 9×9 array was also introduced to increase the heavy metal inventory. A preliminary study of two kinds of burnable poisons (Erbia & Gadolinia) in two forms (BISO and QUADRISO particles) was also included. This study found that SMF requires about 12% enriched UN TRISO particles to match the cycle length of standard fuel when loaded in NHR200-II, which is about 7% for SMF with increased rod diameter. Feedback coefficients are less negative through the life of SMF than the reference. And it is estimated that the average center temperature of fuel kernel at fuel rod centerline is about 60 K below that of reference in this paper.
The Real-time Analysis for Particle-transport and In-situ Detection (RAPID) Code System, developed based on the Multi-stage Response-function Transport (MRT) methodology, enables real-time simulation of nuclear systems such as reactor cores, spent nuclear fuel pools and casks, and sub-critical facilities. This paper presents the application of a novel fission matrix-based burnup methodology to the well-characterized JSI TRIGA Mark II research reactor. This methodology allows for calculation of nuclear fuel depletion by combination and interpolation of RAPID's burnup dependent fission matrix (FM) coefficients to take into account core changes due to burnup. The methodology is compared to experimentally validated Serpent-2 Monte Carlo depletion calculations. The results show that the burnup methodology for RAPID (bRAPID) implemented into RAPID is capable of accurately calculating the keff burnup changes of the reactor core as the average discrepancies throughout the whole burnup interval are 37 pcm. Furthermore, capability of accurately describing 3D fission source distribution changes with burnup is demonstrated by having less than 1% relative discrepancies compared to Serpent-2. Good agreement is observed for axially and pin-wise dependent fuel burnup and nuclear fuel nuclide composition as a function of burnup. It is demonstrated that bRAPID accurately describes burnup in areas with high gradients of neutron flux (e.g. vicinity of control rods). Observed discrepancies for some isotopes are explained by analyzing the neutron spectrum. This paper presents a powerful depletion calculation tool that is capable of characterization of spent nuclear fuel on the fly while the reactor is in operation.

Although discontinuously reinforced metal matrix composite(MMC) is one of the most promising materials for applications of aerospace, automotive industries, the thermal residual stresses developed in the MMC due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion between the matrix and the fiber under a temperature change has been pointed out as one of the serious problem in practical applications. There are very limited nondestructive techniques to measure the residual stress of composite materials. However, many difficulties have been reported in their applications. Therefore it is important to establish analytical model to evaluate the thermal residual stress of MMC for practical engineering application. In this study, an elastic model is developed to predict the average thermal residual stresses in the matrix and fiber of a misoriented short fiber composite. The thermal residual stresses are induced by the mismatch in the coefficient of the thermal expansion of the matrix and fiber when the composite is subjected to a uniform temperature change. The model considers two-dimensional in-plane fiber misorientation. The analytical formulation of the model is based on Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method and is unique in that it is able to account for interactions among fibers. This model is more general than past models to investigate the effect of parameters which might influence thermal residual stress in composites. The present model is to investigate the effects of fiber volume fraction, distribution type, distribution cut-off angle, and aspect ratio on thermal residual stress for in-plane fiber misorientation. Fiber volume fraction, aspect ratio, and distribution cut-off angle are shown to have more significant effects on the magnitude of the thermal residual stresses than fiber distribution type for in-plane misorientation.
We consider the hp-version to solve non-constant coefficient elliptic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded, convex polygonal domain $\Omega$ in $R^{2}.$ To compute the integrals in the variational formulation of the discrete problem we need the numerical quadrature rule scheme. In this paler we consider a family $G_{p}= {I_{m}}$ of numerical quadrature rules satisfying certain properties. When the numerical quadrature rules $I_{m}{\in}G_{p}$ are used for calculating the integrals in the stiffness matrix of the variational form we will give its variational fore and derive an error estimate of ${\parallel}u-\tilde{u}^h_p{\parallel}_0,{\Omega}'$.

In this paper, we propose a new shape from shading algorithm which reconstructs object shapes from a single image. In the proposed intative algorithm, given 3D surfaces are approximated by orthogonal polynomials and the relationships between the given surface and its derivatives are constructed ad matrix forms in terms of polynomial coefficients, Also the relative depth and its derivatives are obtained by updating them iteratively. Performance of the propose shape from shading algorithm is evaluated in terms of brightness error, orientation error, and height error, and the performance comparison of the proposed and conventional algorithms is shown.
