Tungsten carbide microshaft is used as micro-punch, electrode of MEDM (micro-electro-discharge machining), and micro-tool because it has high hardness and high rigidity. In this study, the tungsten carbide microshaft was fabricated using electrochemical machining. Concentration of material removal at the sharp edge and metal corrosion layer affect the shape of the microshaft. Control of microshaft shape was possib1e through conditioning the machining voltage and electrolyte concentration. By applying periodic voltage, material removal rate increased and surface roughness improved. The fabricated microshaft in $H_2 SO_4$ electrolyte maintained sharper end edge and better surface finish than those fabricated by other electrolytes.
Wear and fracture mode of ceramic tool for hardened SKD11 steel was investigated by face milling in this study. The cutting force and Acoustic Emission(AE) signal were utilized to detect the wear and fracture of ceramic tool. The following conclusions were obtained : (1) The wear and fracture modes of ceramic tool are characterized by three types: \circled1wear which has normal wear and notch wear, \circled2 wear caused by scooping on the rake face, \circled3 large fracture caused by thermal crack in the rake face. (2) The wear behaviour of ceramic tool can be detected by the increase of mean cutting force and the variation of the AE RMS voltage. (3) The catastrophic fracture of ceramic tool can be detected by the cutting force(Fz-component). (4) As the hardness of work material increased, Acoustic Emission RMS value and mean cutting force(Fz) increased linearly, but the tool life decreased.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the amount of chloride penetration into concrete finishing materials. Chloride ion migration test was used rapid infiltration method proposed by 'NT-Build 492'. The kind of coated finishing material is 'None-finished(N)', 'Cement Mortal(M)', 'Water based paint(P)', 'Bone-Tile(B)', 'Repair Mortal(R1)' in this paper.
For a stimulating neural electrode, the charge density should be as large as possible to provide adequate stimulation of the nervous system while allowing for miniaturization of the electrode. Since iridium oxide is able to produce high charge densities while preventing undesirable reactions due to charge storage, it has become a promising material for neural prostheses. Successful production of stable Ir and Ir oxide films on various substrates now limits the use of this material. Ir was deposited on two differently prepared surface of (mirror finish, passivation) surgical Ti-6AI-4V with several methods. Ion beam mixing of sputter deposited Ir films on passivated Ti-6AI-4V produced stable and good adherent Ir films. It was found that the increase in charge density of pure Ir on continuous cyclingis due to the accumulation of the oxide phase ( associated with a large surface area) in which the valence state of iridium changes and the double-layer capacitance increases. This study also showed that the double layer capacitance is equally or even more responsible for the high charge density of anodically formed Ir oxide.
The present study pertains to the introduction of two new types of grip adaptor for universal testing machines, namely Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Polyoxymethylene (POM) grip adaptors, and their application to tension testing of FRP bars with different fiber and surface finish types. The tabs are connected to the FRP bar sample with the help of mechanical anchors, i.e. bolts. These new adaptors offer vital superiorities over the existing end tab designs (anchors with filling material or mechanical anchorage), including the reduction in the time and labor for production, reusability and the mild nature, i.e. low hardness of the tab material, which retards and even prevents peeling and crushing in the gripping regions of an FRP sample. The methods were successfully applied to FRP bars with different types of fiber (CFRP, GFRP and BFRP) and different types of surface texture (ribbed, wrapped, sand-coated and wound). The test results indicated that the both types of end caps prevented slip of the bar, crushing and peeling in the gripping zone. The mechanical properties from the material tests with the new caps were in perfect agreement with the ones from the material tests with steel tubular caps.
Building materials are trending toward environmental materials nowadays and the market share of those is growing. So those researches and developments for environmental property are proceeding now. The main properties of environmental products are far infrared emission, negative ion emission, electro magnetic wave shielding, and anti fungus, these products are used with shape of mortar, and spray on the finish material. But There are not much researches for the concrete, main material in construction field, with those functional properties. So in this research we evaluated slump, compressive strength and air content as basic properties for concrete using functional materials of sericite, wood pattern sand stone, carbon black and nanometric silver solution and functional properties like far infrared emission, negative ion emission, electro magnetic wave shielding, and anti fungus. The results were as follows. The most useful material in the functional materials was carbon black. Sericite and nanometric silver solution had a little effect on functional property, so it was difficult to apply to concrete, and wood pattern sand stone had a high functional property but low compressive strength, can be applied to a factory product. Anti fungus of the concrete using nanometric silver solution was not clear but if those specimens were aged in $CO_2$ gas for a long time it might apparent.
After the new house symptoms recently, room environment pollution problem of building syndrome and so on is becoming research about ways to solve this being risen. Is taking advantage of nature data by building materials by one of this way, but Friendly Environmental performance examination for structure material is insufficient misgovernment being real condition that put emphasis in ability as most embellishment and in finish. Environmental examination is insufficient misgovernment on factor itself as structure material. Also, being real condition that radon that is responsible for lung cancer occurrence next to smoke in building materials such as concrete and so on is happened, the danger is reported much through mass communications and research paper etc. Therefore, this research measured radon release amount and the carbon dioxide adsorption rate for physical special quality measuring and Friendly Environment Efficiency that follow to 'KS F 4004 Concrete bricks' regulation after manufacture Concrete Bricks utilizing charcoal that is nature material by sand. This study finding carbon dioxide density appeared and displayed effect that charcoal Controls radon release that happen in Concrete Bricks to maximum 74% that decrease to best 95% though decreased the charcoal addition rate increases.
Thermal energy storage (TES) systems using Microencapsulated phase change material (MPCM) have been recognized as one of the most advanced energy technologies in enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. We examined a way to incorporate MPCMs with building materials through application for wood-based flooring. Wood-based flooring is commonly used for floor finish materials of residential buildings in Korea. However, wood-based flooring has not performed the characteristic of heat storage. This study is aimed at manufacturing high thermal efficiency wood flooring by increasing its heat storage using MPCM. As a result, this study confirmed that MPCM is dispersed well in adhesive through the scanning electron microscopy analysis. From the differential scanning calorimetry analysis, it can be confirmed that this composite has the characteristic of a thermal energy storage material. Also, we analyzed how this composition was formed by physical combination through the Fourier transform infrared analysis. Also, we confirmed the bonding strength of the material by using the universal testing machine.
The characteristics of wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of tungsten carbide in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension, the gap of deflection was decreased after thickness 60mm and discharge time of 6$\mu\textrm{s}$ due to the changing from fundamental mode to vibration mode. The deflection is the smallest at the water specific resistivity of 7.5 kΩ ㆍcm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time, and the result is due to the vibration of the pressure and the amount of the dielectric. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, was observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be decreased as the number of EDM is increased. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.
Surface finishing using magnetorheological (MR) fluid is useful to finish small but not too small workpieces such as those in a few millimeter scale. However, due to the high surface hardness, this finishing process does not seem to be suit for applying to a hard disk slider. In this work, a preliminary study is performed on the finishing of the hard disk slider surface with a mixture of an MR fluid and diamond powder. During a wheel type MR finishing process, centrifugal force is found to be a major factor to cause a reduction in material remove rate (MRR), which is supported by a theoretical model. To facilitate this founding, the rotational speed of tool is confined to 500rpm while a rectilinear alternating motion with the mean speed, which is equivalent to the rotational speed, is additionally applied to the workpieces. As a consequence, MRR of about 2 times of the sole rotational case is obtained. This paper shows that MR finishing process can be used to polish a hard material in millimeter scale efficiently by controlling the speeds of the tool and the workpiece.
