The present paper investigates the stochastic seismic responses of steel structure systems with Partially Restrained (PR) connections by using Perturbation based Stochastic Finite Element (PSFEM) method. A stiffness matrix formulation of steel systems with PR connections and PSFEM and MCS formulations of structural systems are given. Based on the formulations, a computer program in FORTRAN language has been developed, and stochastic seismic analyses of steel frame and bridge systems have been performed for different types of connections. The connection parameters, material and geometrical properties are assumed to be random variables in the analyses. The Kocaeli earthquake occurred in 1999 is considered as a ground motion. The connection parameters, material and geometrical properties are considered to be random variables. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed SFEM algorithm are validated by comparison with results of Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method.
The purpose of this paper is analyses about in 12kV/50kA vacuum interrupter with an axial magnetic field type electrode system through the studies of electromagnetic phenomena. Vacuum interrupter is important in electric safety part. In this paper, we performed analysis of electric field, magnetic field, current density in AMF electrode using the Maxwell 3D simulation. The current distribution and magnetic field in simple models are analyzed to verify its efficiency and accuracy. In addition the validity of FEM is confirmed by performing the analyses of distribution in current density and magnetic flux density.
This paper describes the design and analyses of vibration driven electromagnetic energy harvester with high power generation which is suitable for supplying power generator from human body motion. The proposed harvester consists of magnet, coil, and SM (Soft magnetic Material). In order to generate more induced voltage, the SM to concentrate flux lines from end of magnetic poles was arranged into insert moving magnet. Each model was designed and analyzed by using ANSYS software to simulation. The maximum power is generated when load resistance of $1303\;{\Omega}$ is equal to coil resistance. The generated maximum power of for harvesters with SM is $677.85\;{\mu}W$ and 5.46 times higher than without SM at 6 Hz vibration frequency.
Global and local behaviors of a lightly RC shear walls are investigated in this paper. For the sake of cyclic behaviors, nominal ground accelerations of 0.15 g, 0.40 g and 0.55 g which associated with natural periods of the walls are applied as listed in French CAMUS-2000 shake table test. Modified Kent & Park model, Drucker-Prager model for concrete material and $Giufr\acute{e}$-Menegotto-Pinto model for rebar are used for time history analyses using fiber/solids elements respectively. Alternatively, Eulerian beam analysis are discussed by imposing inelastic hinges at the most possible plastic hinge location using modified Takeda's trilinear model with stiffness reduction. Relative displacements, base shears, bending moments of 5-story shear building with 36-tons of mass under bi-lateral seismic excitation are extracted and compared with EC-8, PS-92 and KBC-09 provisions. Multi-scaled degradation process; material damage, elemental fracture and structural failure in turn is discussed in the view of numerical accuracy, efficiency and limitation depending on three different model-based analyses.
The objective of this paper is to demonstrate degradation phenomena through DC degradation tests and predicts degradation phenomena as a function of time from the tests. The ZnO varistor used in this investigation were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. Especial, these were sintered in nitrogen atmosphere, at 2 h, for $1300^{\circ}C$. The conditions of DC degradation test were 115$\pm$$2^{\circ}C$for 0, 2, 4, and 8 h, respectively. To demonstrate the degradation phenomena of ZnO varistors, Voltagecurrent analyses were performed before and after the degradation test, and frequency analyses were used with the time of the degradation tests. It was found that the degradation occurred in not grain but grain boundary and the degradation behavior of varistors was unsymmetrically degraded with the direction of tests.
The paper provides the characteristic analyses of porcelain suspension insulators. The comparisons of characteristics were made as a function of failed and unfailed insulators which had ben used in the fields. This paper also describes the failure modes occurred in the fields. The aging of cement corrosion of metal breaking of shed puncture in the head and separation of glaze are different failure modes for porcelain suspension insulators. Among these failure modes the puncture breaking and glaze problems were major concerns in this research. The cracks porosities of porcelain and micro-crystals on the graze were the causes of these failures. These results were confirmed by conducting various failure analyses.
In this paper, we evaluated the mechanical and dielectric properties of LDPE depend on $Co_{60}$${\gamma}$-irradiation doses. The chemical analyses for FT-IR, gel content, the mechanical properties for elongation at break and the dielectric parameters for permittivity, tan$\delta$ were discussed as a function of irradiation doses. Test result presented that elongation at break of irradiated LDPE was inversely proportional to gel content. For dielectric analyses, permittivity showed a salient characteristic for various irradiation doses, it was related to polar groups caused radiation degradation and tan$\delta$ of irradiated LDPE increased with irradiation doses.
In case of attaching thermoelectric module and heat source, the polymer sheet is attached on the $Al_2O_3$ plate, which is cooling side of thermoelectric module, in order to enhance mechanical safety of the system. It is impossible to calculate the exact distribution of temperature and flow pattern of inner gap of thermoelectric module. Therefore CFD analyses was executed to determine the thermo-fluid phenomena and distribution by Fluent. As the result of these analyses, heat transfer was dominated by conduction and the difference of temperature was linear distribution according to the thickness of polymer sheet.
High current behaviors of the grounded gate extended drain N-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field effects transistor (GG_EDNMOS) electro-static discharge (ESD) protection devices are analyzed. Simulation based contour analyses reveal that combination of BJT operation and deep electron channeling induced by high electron injection gives rise to the 2-nd on-state. Thus, the deep electron channel formation needs to be prevented in order to realize stable and robust ESD protection performance. Based on our analyses, general methodology to avoid the double snapback and to realize stable ESD protection is to be discussed.
A theoretical study was carried-out of mode II delamination fracture behavior of the End Loaded Split (ELS) functionally graded beam configuration with considering the material non-linearity. The mechanical response of ELS was modeled analytically by using a power-law stress-strain relation. It was assumed that the material is functionally graded transversally to the beam. The non-linear fracture was investigated by using the J-integral approach. Equations were derived for the crack arm curvature and zero axes coordinate that are needed for the J-integral solution. The analysis developed is valid for a delamination crack located arbitrary along the beam height. The J-integral solution was verified by analyzing the strain energy release rate with considering material non-linearity. The effects of material gradient, non-linear material behavior and crack location on the fracture were evaluated. The solution derived is suitable for parametric analyses of non-linear fracture. The results obtained can be used for optimization of functionally graded beams with respect to their mode II fracture performance. Also, such simplified analytical models contribute for the understanding of delamination fracture in functionally graded beams exhibiting material non-linearity.
