Petroleum a vital commodity affecting every aspect of 21st century. Toxicity and adverse effects of sulphur as catalyst in petroleum products is of great concern required development of techniques for desulphurization in compliance with the International standards. Installation of desulphurizing units costs over $200 million per unit placing economic burden on developing countries like Pakistan. Present study analysis of commercial fuels (station petrol and jet fuel JP8) on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) identified sulphur concentration of 19.94 mg/L and 21.75 mg/L, respectively. This scenario urged the researcher to attempt synthesis of material that is likely to offer good adsorption capacity for sulphur. Following protocol of sol-gel method, transition metals (Ni, Cu, Zn) solution is gelated with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS; silica precursor) using glycerol. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra revealed bonding of Zn-O, Cu-O, and Ni-O by stretching vibrations at $468cm^{-1}$, $617cm^{-1}$, and $468cm^{-1}$, respectively. Thiophene and Benzothiophene mixed in n-heptane and benzene (4:1) for preparation of Model Fuels I and II, respectively. Each of silica based metal was applied as adsorbent in batch mode to assess the removal efficiency. Results demonstrated optimal desulphurization of more than 90% following efficacy order as Si-Ni > Si-Zn > Si-Cu based adsorbents. Proposed multilayered (Freundlich) adsorption mechanism follows ${\pi}$-complexation with pseudo secnd order kinetics.
Recently, studies on the development of flexible electronic devices by combining flexible materials and a conductor have been actively performed as interest in wearable devices. Especially, carbon nanotubes (CNT) or graphene coating have been used to construct a circuit to induce improvement in flexibility and rigidity. Various technologies have been developed in the surface coating of conductive materials, which are key to the manufacture of flexible electronic devices. Surface coating products with 3D coating and micro-patterns have been proposed through electrospinning, electrification, and 3D printing technologies. As a result of this advanced surface coating technology, there is a growing interest in manufacturing gradient conductive surfaces. Gradient surfaces have the advantage that they are adapted to apply a gentle change or to inspect optimum conditions in a particular region by imparting continuously changing properties. In this study, we propose a manufacturing technique to produce a continuous gradient conductive surface by combining a partial stretching of elastomer and a conductive material coating, and introduce experimental results to confirm its performance.
This research investigates the free vibration of porous advanced composite plates resting on Winkler/Pasternak/ Kerr foundations by using a new hyperbolic quasi three dimensional (quasi-3D) shear deformation theory. The present theory, which does not require shear correction factor, accounts for shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by parabolic variation of all displacements across the thickness, and satisfies the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate. In this work, we consider imperfect FG plates with porosities embedded within elastic Winkler, Pasternak or Kerr foundations. Implementing an analytical approach, the obtained governing equations from Hamilton's principle according to FG plates are derived. The closed form solutions are obtained by using Navier technique, and natural frequencies of FG plates are found, for simply supported plates, by solving the results of eigenvalue problems. A comprehensive parametric study is presented to evaluate effects of the geometry of material, mode numbers, porosity volume fraction, Power-law index and stiffness of foundations parameters on free vibration characteristics of FG plates.
Many studies have been conducted on the indiscriminate use of plastic due to the environment problems it has caused all over the world. This problem can be mitigated by using eco-friendly/biodegradable plastics that can be decomposed by microorganisms or enzymes. This study focused on addressing the plastic golf tees that are thrown away at golf courses. In order to replace conventional golf tees (ABS) with a more eco-friendly alternative, this study explored a biodegradable plastic and 3D printing method for producing golf tees. Among the biodegradable plastics, PLA (polylactic acid) was found to be a good candidate as an eco-friendly material because it is biodegradable by microorganisms. Thus, golf tees were prepared by using PLA via 3D printing, and the physical and chemical properties of the tees were evaluated. The amorphous region of PLA was confirmed through XRD. Also, FT-IR showed the unique peak of PLA without impurities. It was confirmed through an optical microscope that the specific surface area and roughness had increased. This structure plays a role in firmly fixing the golf tee when it is inserted into the ground. In addition, it was possible to improve the compressive load compared to ABS golf tees while also decreasing the compressive stretching.

The main objective of this research work is to present analytical solutions for the thermoelastic bending analysis of sandwich plates made of functionally graded materials with an arbitrary gradient. The governing equations of equilibrium are solved for a functionally graded sandwich plates under the effect of thermal loads. The transverse shear and normal strain and stress effects on thermoelastic bending of such sandwich plates are considered. Field equations for functionally graded sandwich plates whose deformations are governed by either the shear deformation theories or the classical theory are derived. Displacement functions that identically satisfy boundary conditions are used to reduce the governing equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. The results of the shear deformation theories are compared together. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of functionally graded metal-ceramic plates are investigated.

The sound radiation responses of multi-layer composite plates subjected to harmonic mechanical excitation in hygrothermal environment is numerically investigated. A homogenized micromechanical finite element (FE) based on the higher-order mid-plane kinematics replicating quadratic function as well as the through the thickness stretching effect together with the indirect boundary element (IBE) scheme has been first time employed. The isoparametric Lagrangian element (ten degrees of freedom per node) is used for discretization to attain the hygro-thermo-elastic natural frequencies and the modes of the plate via Hamilton's principle. The effective material properties under combined hygrothermal loading are considered via a micromechanical model. An IBE method is then implemented to attain structure-surrounding coupling and the Helmholtz wave equation is solved to compute the sound radiation responses. The effectiveness of the model is tested by converging it with the similar analytical/numerical results as well as the experimentally acquired data. The present scheme is further hold out for solving diverse numerical illustrations. The results revealed the relevance of the current higher-order FE-IBE micromechanical model in realistic estimation of hygro-thermo-acoustic responses. The geometrical parameters, volume fraction of fiber, layup, and support conditions alongside the hygrothermal load is found to have significant influence on the vibroacoustic characteristics.

A composite material is composed of a reinforcement and a matrix, which determine mechanical characteristics of the molded part. There is no doubt that the properties of a composite material depend not only on the characteristics of the matrix but also on the structure of glass fiber mat and a fiber type of reinforcement. Therefore it is very important to study the composites of reinforcement and the matrix, and to control the fiber type in the process of molding of composite materials. In this study, the specimen was made of a glass fiber mat of 6-7mm thickness by scattering it in the air after cutting the glass fiber mat with needle punching makes change according to the type of needle and the number of times of stretching. First the sheet was made by means of a hot-press after accumulating a matrix and a glass fiber according to each mat structure of glass fiber. It was heated the manufactured sheet with the dry oven and molded it a secondary high temperature compression by a 30 ton oilhydraulic press. A definition of a correlation coefficient is showed up during this period and find it out with the relation of the fiber-matrix separation and the fiber orientation. We studied effects of the glass fiber mat structures on the correlation coefficient.
Type-3 cylinder liner has a limitation of machining the standard specimen for fracture toughness test because it has approximately 5 mm in thickness as well as a curvature. Hence, it needs to be employed a miniature specimen test technique to evaluate fracture toughness of the cylinder liner. In this study, small punch (SP) test method was employed to evaluate fracture toughness of the cylinder liner. Load-displacement curve result measured from the SP test showed that the liner material was failed during membrane stretching in the general SP load-displacement curve. Additionally, it was shown that liner material was isotropic although the amount of plastic deformation was different depending on the direction due to manufacturing process characteristics. Fracture toughness, $J_{Ic}$, was evaluated using the SP test data. The value of fracture toughness obtained was $13.0kJ/m^2$. This value was similar to that of the same kind of materials. Therefore, the fracture toughness evaluated using the SP test data was reasonable.

The explicit scheme for finite element analysis of sheet metal forming problems has been widely used for providing practical solutions since it improves the convergency problem, memory size and computational time especially for the case of complicated geometry and large element number. The explicit schemes in general use are based on the elastic-plastic modeling of material requiring large computataion time. In the present work, a basic formulation for rigid-plastic explicit finite element analysis of plain strain sheet metal forming problems has been proposed. The effect of some basic parameters involved in the dynamic analysis has been studied in detail. Thus, the effective ranges of parameters have been proposed for numerical simultion by the rigid-plastic explicit finite element method. A direct trial-and-error method is introduced to treat contact and friction. In computation, sheet material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and rigid-plastic workhardening characteristics. In order to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed explicit scheme, computations are carried out for cylindrical punch stretching and the computational results are compared with those by the implicit scheme as well as with a commercial code. The proposed rigid-plastic exlicit finite element method can be used as a robust and efficient computational method for analysis of sheet metal forming.

Dome stretching tests and tension tests were performed to evaluate the formability of a copper alloy used for manufacturing the regenerative cooling chamber. The test specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of heat treatment and direction of specimens on the formability. The test results show that forming limit values are increased by the heat treatment of the material but the variation of the forming limit values by manufacturing direction is negligible compared to the heat treatment effect, and forming limit values are also different according to the test methods. These results indicate that the high temperature heat treatment of the material before bulging is a very important process to deform the inner cylindrical structure of the regenerative cooling chamber into a nozzle shape by the bulging process without necking or fracture and the test methods also have a great effect on a evaluation of the formability. The forming limit diagram obtained in this study would be utilized to the design of regenerative cooling chamber nozzles.
