Development of Thermal Distortion Analysis Method Based on Inherent Strain for TMCP Steels (TMCP 강판의 고유변형도 기반 열변형 해석법 개발)

  • As ships become to be larger than ever, the thicker plate and the higher tensile steel plate are used in naval shipyard. Though special chemical composition is needed for high-tensile steels, recent high-tensile steels are made by the TMCP(Thermo-Mechanical control process) skill. The increase of yield stress and tensile stress of TMCP steels is induced from bainite phase which is transformed from austenite, but that increased yield stress can be vanished by another additional thermal cycle like welding and heating. As thermal deformations are deeply related by yield stress of material, the study for prediction of plate deformation by heating should reflect principle of TMCP steels. This study developed an algorithm which can calculate inherent strain. In this algorithm, not only the mechanical principles of thermal deformations, but also the predicting of the portion of initial bainite is considered when calculating inherent strain. The simulations of plate deformation by these values showed good agreements with experimental results of normalizing steels and TMCP steels in welding and heating. Finally we made an inherent strain database of steels used in Class rule.

  • This paper presents a novel Intelligent-Welding-Carriage (IWC) for automation of curved block in shipbuilding. The curved block is usually used in both front and back side of the ship. In curved block root gap is big, $1{\sim}7$ [mm] and inclination, $0{\sim}30$ [deg]. Since available conventional carriage type is limited to use below root gap of 3 [mm], only manual welding is employed in curved block. To adopt an IWC in curved block, it requires control of the welding conditions, i.e., voltage, current and travel speed, with respect to root gap and inclination to achieve good welding quality. In this paper, an IWC is developed for automization of welding operation to accommodate gap and inclination. Kinematics model and dynamics using Lagrangian formulation of the manipulator is introduced. IWC utilizes a database to perform accurate welding. The database is programmed based on numerous experimental test results with respect to gap, inclination, material, travel speed, weaving condition, voltage, and current. Finally, experimental result using PID control is addressed for verify the trajectory tracking accuracy of end-effector.

  • The global demand for Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) continues to increase and is facing a big cycle. To keep pace with the increase in international demand for LNG, the demand for LNG fueled ships is also increasing. Since LNG fuel tanks are operated in a cryogenic environment, insulation technology is very important, and although there are various types of insulation applied to Type C tanks, multi-layer insulation and vacuum insulation are typically applied. Powder insulation materials are widely used for storage and transportation of cryogenic liquids in tanks with such a complex insulation structure. In this study, compression tests at room and cryogenic temperature were performed on closed perlite, glass bubble, and fumed silica, which are representative powder insulation material candidates. Finally, the applicability to the Type C fuel tank was reviewed by analyzing the experimental results of this study.

  • In this study, the high strength and superior toughness spring steels as the suspension material, used for automobile and railroad industries were utilized to carry out the following investigations. Corrosion times were controlled in 7, 14,30 and 60days to examine the relation between corrosion pit and compressive residual stress in the static corrosion environment after shot peened. And then corrosion current and corrosion potential were measured for every 24 hours to investigate the corrosion mechanism. Shot peened material shows the low or rate of corrosion current as compared with unpeened material. In case of hot peened material which has the highest residual stress, it has a low corrosion current density.

  • Advanced tactile sensors are receiving significant attention in various industries such as extended reality, electronic skin, organic user interfaces, and robotics. The capabilities of advanced tactile sensors require a variety of functions, including position sensing, pressure sensing, and material recognition. Moreover, they should comsume less power and be bio-friendly with human contact. Recently, a tactile sensor based on the triboelectrification effect was developed. Triboelectric tactile sensors have the advantages of wide material availability, simple structure, and low manufacturing cost. Because they generate electricity by contact, they have low power consumption compared to conventional tactile sensors such as capacitive and piezoresistive. Furthermore, they have the ability to recognize the contact material as well as execute position and pressure sensing functions using the triboelectrification effect. The aim of this study is to introduce the progress of research on triboelectrification-based tactile sensors with various functions such as position sensing, pressure sensing and contact material recognition.

  • In consideration of the injuries and deaths occurring at manufacturing sites due to the use of inappropriate work clothes or safety devices, this study aims to categorize manufacturing work processes to develop functional work clothes for heavy industries including the automobile, machine and shipbuilding industries in South Korea. Defining the features of the work environments and work postures of these industries provided for a categorization of the work processes which would enable the development of suitable work clothes for each work process' category. The results of the study based on a questionnaire survey are as follows: Work process category 1, including steel panel pressing and auto body assembly, final inspection (in automobile) and inspection (in machine), requires work clothes with upper body and arm mobility and performance to protect from the toxic fume factor. Work process category 2, consisting of welding (in automobile), cutting-and-forming (in machine) and attachment-and-construction (in shipbuilding), requires clothing elasticity, durability and heat and fire resistance. Work process category 3 comprising welding and grinding in the machine and shipbuilding industries, requires work clothes' tear resistance and elasticity, particularly for lateral bending mobility, and work clothes' sleeves' and pants' hemlines with sealed designs to defend against iron filing penetration, as well as incombustible and heat-resistant material performance. Finally, work process category 4, including painting in machine and shipbuilding, requires work clothes with waterproofing, air permeability, thermal performance, elasticity, durability and abrasion resistance.

The Effect of Shot peening for Corrosion Fatigue Characteristics of Spring Steel Using as Suspension Material (현가장치재 스프링강의 부식피로특성에 미치는 쇼트피닝 가공효과)

  • The development of new materials that are light-weight, yet high in strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. The fatigue crack growth rate of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. And Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

  • The development of new materials with light weight and high strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on adopting residual stress(in this thesis). The compressive residual stress was imposed on the surface according to each shot velocity(57, 70, 83, 96 m/sec) based on Shot-peening, which is the method of improving fatigue life and strength. By using the methods mentioned above, the following conclusions have been drawn. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor, of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. 2. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material.   • Composite material is widely used in the automotive industries because it has excellent mechanical properties and is possible to reduce weight due to the low density. However, there is a new obstacle to meet environment regulation like Cu less or Cu free regulation for the friction material. Although it is strongly demanded, there are few research results about that unfortunately. Unless this problem is not solved properly, it is impossible to apply composite brake system to vehicle. In this paper, a new eco-friendly friction material for composite brake system is represented to respond these regulations. To do this, friction characteristics between existing low steel friction material and new eco-friendly friction material are verified to secure performances for brake system such as effect characteristic, fade characteristic and wear characteristic. And composite brake gets the equivalent or better performance compared to a low steel friction material. Finally, this result contributes to the study of major principles for the development of eco-friendly friction material in the future.
