  • The research has extracted two kinds of specimen, one is rolling direction material(R-material) and the other rectangular of rolling direction(V-material), from Al alloy 7075 rolled. We have come to a conclusion by measuring crack propagation behavior with movement type microscope and Replica. 1) R-material shows 130% higher, approx. 39.2MPa in fatigue strength than V-material, approx. 29.4MPa. 2) In crack proportion, contrary to V-material growing directly toward specimen axis, R-material grows neared to shear direction. 3) The life proves that R-material is approx. 122% higher than V-material at 43.1MPa and approx. 135% higher at 47MPa. 4) The correlation between fatigue crack length and fracture life ratio applied to 'log(2a)=A+B ($N/N_f$)'equation shows inappropriate, because property value of Al alloy is low and the difference of chemical composition is high comparing with steel material.

  • Yield and fracture are separated in the tensile failure of paper. Failure in the machine direction of photocopy paper is contrasted with failure in the cross-machine direction . The ratios of distortion (shape change) to dilatation (volume change) for individual elements at yield and fracture are described. The ratios of distortion to dilatation are measured and compared to predicted values of the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density factor, samples are prepared from machine direction to cross-machine direction in 15 degree intervals. the strain energy density of individual elements are obtained by the integration of stress from finite element analysis with elastic plus plastic strain energy density theory. Poison's ratio and the angle from the principal material direction have a great effect ion the ratio fo distortion to dilatation in paper. During the yield condition, distortion prevails over dilatation . At fracture, dilatation is at a maximum.

  • This study was carried out in order to compare nail shear strength between domestic plywood and imported OSB for structural sheathing members as infill wall of wooden construction. The differences of nail shear strength between parallel-to-grain direction and perpendicular-to-grain direction of sheathing material to frame material were distinct at the plywood composition. The shear strengths of plywood and OSB with nail met current design values. The plywood of P-4 type, which uses MLH at surface layer and constructs 7 ply, showed greater than OSB regardless of grain direction of sheathing material to frame material. When the plywood as sheathing material to frame material was used, it was found out that the overall construction of perpendicular-to-grain direction of plywood had greater nail shear strengths than the construction of parallel-to-grain.

  • This investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al hybrid material prepared by electromagnetic duo-casting to determine the effect of heat treatment. The hybrid material is composed of an Al-Mg-Si alloy, pure Al and the interface between the Al-Mg-Si alloy and pure Al. It is heat-treated at 373, 573 and 773K for 1h and T6 treated (solution treatment at 773K for 1h and aging at 433K for 5h). As the temperature increases, the grain size of the Al-Mg-Si alloy in the hybrid material increases. The grain size of the T6 treated Al-Mg-Si alloy is similar to that of one heat-treated at 773K for 1h. The interface region where the micro-hardness becomes large from the pure Al to the Al-Mg-Si alloy widens with an increasing heat temperature. The hybrid material with a macro-interface parallel to the tensile direction experiences increased tensile strength, 0.2 % proof stress and the decreased elongation after T6 heat treatment. On the other hand, in the vertical direction to the tensile direction, there is no great difference with heat treatment. The bending strength of the hybrid material with a long macro-interface to the bending direction is higher than that with a short macro-interface, which is improved by heat treatment. The hybrid material with a long macro-interface to the bending direction is fractured by cracking through the eutectic structure in the Al-Mg-Si alloy. However, in the hybrid material with a short macro-interface, the bending deformation is observed only in the limited pure Al.

  • Most of the welding steel plate structures have complicated mechanical problems such as rolling directional characteristics and residual stresses caused by manufacturing process. For the enhancement of reliability and safety in those structures, therefore, a systematic investigation is required. SS400 steel plate used for common structures was selected and welded by FCAW butt-welding process for this study, and then it was studied experimently about characteristics of fatigue crack propagations with respect to rolling direction and welding residual stress of welded steel plates. When the angles between rolling direction and tensile loading direction in base material are increased, their ultimate strength not show a significant difference, but yielding strength are increased and elongations are decreased uniformly. It is also shown that fatigue crack growth rate can be increased from those results. When the angles between welding bead direction and loading direction in welded material are increase, fatigue crack growth rate of them are decreased and influenced uniformly according to the conditions of residual stress distribution. In these results, it is shown that the welded steel plate structures are needed to harmonize distributed welding residual stress, rolling direction and loading direction fur the improvement of safety and endurance in manufacture of their structures.

  • Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. In FGM layer, material properties are assumed to be varied continuously in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of a ceramic and metal. The 3-D finite element model is adopted by using an IS-node solid element to analyze more accurately the variation of material properties in the thickness direction. Numerical results are compared with those of the previous works. In addition, the displacements, the tensile stresses and the compressive stresses are analyzed for the variation of FGM thickness ratio and volume fraction distribution.Mechanical strength of functionally graded composite plates that composed of ceramic, functionally graded material and metal layers is investigated using 3-D finite element method. • The main purpose of this study was to propose the development direction and application method of wood as a landscape material by analysis and investigation of the present condition and characteristics of wood, which is a quite interesting natural material for its beauty as an exterior material. This study is based on the relationships between the establishment of development direction and practical use of exterior wood as a landscape material. The research method used was fieldwork and data analysis. On the analysis of the present condition of wood utilization, it was investigated to need of complement of a design aspect, use method, the limit of use type, and use range. The direction of a durable design for the practical use of exterior wood as landscape materials was established. On the use of exterior wood, first, the characteristics of wood have to be understood. Then exterior wood can be used while preserving its safety and beauty over a long time by physical and chemical treatment. At the same time, an application plan for the practical and effective use of wood as an outdoor landscape material, we concluded that future research in design aspects is needed in consideration of physical, chemical, and structural properties of durable wood materials used in outdoor facilities.

  • The problem of predicting the fracture strength behavior in orthotropic plate with a crack inclined with respect to the principal material axes is analyzed. Both the load to cause fracture and the crack direction of crack growth arc of interest. The theoretical results based on the normal stress ration theory show significant effects of biaxial loading and the fiber orientation on the crack growth angle and the critical stress. The additional term in the asymptotic expansion of the crack tip stress field appears to provide more accurate critical stress prediction.

  • An ultrasonic linear motor was composed of a slider and a stator vibrator including piezoelectric material and elastic material. The ultrasonic linear motors mainly consist of an ultrasonic oscillator which generates elliptical oscillations. Elliptical oscillations are generated by synthesizing two degenerated modes. Direction of vibratory displacement was analyzed by employing the finite element method. So, we could recognize that the direction of the slider's movement was controlled by changing the Phase difference of the drive voltage.

  • Tungsten is the most promising plasma facing material for fusion reactors. Rolled W-Y2(Zr)O3 bulk material has been successfully produced in this study for future fusion engineering applications. The introduction of Zr is conducive to the refinement of the second phase particles. Nano-sized Y-Zr-O particles are observed in the powder and bulk samples. Related results show that the Y-Zr-O particle dispersion distribution improves the heat load resistance of W-Y2(Zr)O3 composite material. For four-point bend experiments in the same sampling direction, the DBTT of W-Y2(Zr)O3 composite materials is lower compared to the pure tungsten. For the same material, the DBTT of the material was selected for testing along the RD direction is lower compared to the material was selected for testing along the TD direction. Findings of this study provide suggestions for the subsequent industrial preparation of nanoscale particle-doped tungsten materials.
