  • Electromagnetic wave signals radiated from an antenna are reflected by targets and received through the same antenna. These received signals show different characteristics according to various target materials having different dielectric constants. Therefore, target characteristics can be recognized if we can utilize these return signals efficiently. this method can be applied for discrimination and classification of hazardous materials. In this paper, utilizing these experimentally obtained signals, correlation characteristics are obtained and analyzed for classification and discrimination purposes. Although the correlation method requires the storage of reference signals, it shows very promising results. this correlation method can be applied for classification and discrimination of hazardous materials.

  • WSNs as the main technology of IoT often deliver information or authenticate based on location. Thus, verifying location information is essential. This paper aims to present the comprehensive analysis and classification of location verification techniques in WSN. For this, classification criteria are suggested based on the result of feature analysis of existing techniques. In addition, the existing techniques are classified according to the suggested criteria, and each characteristic and development direction are described. The result of this paper is expected to be a useful reference material when designing a new technique.

  • Chromosomes, as the genetic vehicles, provide the basic material for a large proportion of genetic investigations. The human chromosome analysis is widely used to diagnose genetic disease and various congenital anomalies. Many researches on automated chromosome karyotype analysis has been carried out, some of which produced commercial systems. However, there still remains much room for improving the accuracy of chromosome classification. In this paper, we propose an optimal pattern classifier by neural network to improve the accuracy of chromosome classification. The proposed pattern classifier was built up of two-step multi-layer neural network(TMANN). We are employed three morphological feature parameters ; centromeric index(C.I.), relative length ratio(R.L.), and relative area ratio(R.A.), as input in neural network by preprocessing twenty human chromosome images. The results of our experiments show that our TMANN classifier is much more useful in neural network learning and successful in chromosome classification than the other classification methods.

  • It is the unavoidable problem that the RMR rock classification method has the uncertainty resulted from uncertain definition of measured value in RMR grade table, hence in this paper, the estimation of probability density function$(p{\cdot}d{\cdot}f)$ graph with the evaluation of continuos RMR and the Monte Carlo Simulation and statistic reasoning were carried out to evaluate the uncertainty quantitatively. Also, the modified RMR rock classification table was presented in order to apply the uncertainty of RMR to the practice, and then the design process of standard support pattern and the tunnel support material was proposed.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to provide workplaces with political guidelines that apply international CMRs (Carcinogens, Mutagens, Reproductive toxins) information to Public Notice of TLVs (Threshold Limit Values). We analyzed information supply status about CMRs of international agencies and compared substances for which TLVs are set in KMoEL (Ministry of Employment and Labor in Korea). Methods: We referred to the reliable literature about classification criteria of CMRs corresponding to UN GHS (Globally Harmonized System of classification and Labeling of chemicals) and Public Notice No. 2009-68 'Standard for Classification, Labeling of Chemical Substance and Material Safety Data Sheet' in KMoEL. The classification system of CMRs in professional organizations (IARC, NTP, ACGIH, EU ECHA, KMoEL, etc.) was investigated through the internet and literature. Conclusions: 191 chemical substances among total 650 substances with TLVs are classified as carcinogens. Also, 43 substances classified as mutagens, and 44 as reproductive toxicants. These results suggest that the information of CMRs in Public Notice of TLV will be reorganized to 191 carcinogens, 43 mutagens, and 44 reproductive toxicants.

  • Geometric shape in a surface material sometimes produces different slopes that have different illuminations. It causes some difficulties to get same classification results or to identify as an object for the different facets in a surface material. A regression method is suggested to adjust the spectral information of different facets in a surface material using image segments. The method to adjust spectral information in a building facets was very successful. The most important advantage of this method is to keep the intensity of spectral information as well as spectral response. This method can also be implemented in an adaptive way.

  • This study examined the actual conditions of quarries. aiming to offer preliminary data to help with restoration efforts of quarries after extracting rock material. The results are as follows. As for the current state of business, a classification of all sites surveyed showed the ratio of ceased operations: ongoing operations: quarries under restoration to be 58:5:37. Classified by the permit area, the ratio of the number of quarries with areas less than $20,000m^2$ (2ha) : between $20,000m^2$ (2ha) and $50,000m^2$ (5ha) : $50,000m^2$ (5ha) or more was 15:60:25. The classification by use of the rocks showed the ratio of construction aggregate (such as civil construction material) : building material : craft material to be 60:28:12. The ratio of quarrying methods of bench cut : slope quarry : vertical quarry wall is 40:18:42. It is indicated that 85% of all quarries surveyed are difficult to reclaim while 15% seem to be easier to restore. Among all surveyed, 34 sites were considered to be extremely difficult to restore. 17 of the 34 sites (50%) were quarry walls almost vertical that have been neglected after extraction. 16 of them (47%) were underground quarries that have left quarry walls deep under the ground. For the remaining 1 site, there doesn't seem to be any need for reclamation as it became totally flat after the extraction.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and develop a alternative material recommendation system using automatic classification, based on user preference. Details of usage data by users from DREAM was analysed in order to develop the way of a method on selecting proper alternative material, and then the data by user preference were allocated under each category of 10 KDC categories. The keyword, selected from the title of users' usage data from a certain period of time, were divided into 10 subject categories and ranked by the order of frequency of appearance. Books including high frequency of the keyword in title can be selected as a preferred target for producing alternative materials. Lastly, a dynamic linkage for sharing usage data among National Library for the Disabled and other libraries is proposed to produce more proper alternative materials, based on user preference.

  • There are many different types of surface defects on semiconductor Integrated Chips (IC's) caused by various factors during manufacturing process, such as cracks, foreign materials, chip-outs, chips, and voids. These defects must be detected and classified by an inspection system for productivity improvement and effective process control. Among defects, in particular, foreign materials and chips are the most difficult ones to classify accurately. A vision system composed of a carefully designed optical system and a processing algorithm is proposed to detect and classify the defects on QFN(Quad Flat No-leads) packages. The processing algorithm uses features derived from the defect's position and brightness value in the Maximum Likelihood classifier and the optical system is designed to effectively extract the features used in the classifier. In experiments we confirm that this method gives more effective result in classifying foreign materials and chips.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the records classification system of the Korean Province of the Daughters of St. Paul for the systematic management and usage of records that they produced and collected. First, the ideology of the foundation of the Congregation and the history of the Korean Province were investigated, and the structure of the community and the present condition of records management were surveyed. The classification methods were chosen according to function, organization, and type for categorization of records. Afterward, the classification system of the General House Historical Archives was analyzed, and some parts set to be improved from the current system were examined. Finally, a revised classification system was suggested. The result of this study can be used to update the system and become a useful material for developing systems of other Catholic Congregations.
