  • The problem of a plane wave impinging upon a semi-infinite paralle-plate waveguide is investigated. The interior fields can be analyzed by converting the initial field into vaveguide modes. Kirchhoff approximation is usually made at the waveguide aperture in the literature. In this paper, a modified approximation is made using the Uniform Gemetrical Theory of Diffraction(UTD). Numerical results show excellent agreement between UTD-supplemented mode-matching solution and UTD solution.

  • A ultrasonic transduce with a single acoustic matching layer has been designed as an attempt to increase the bandwidth of underwater transducer. The wideband resonance condition was accomplished by attaching a single matching layer on the front face of a ceramic resonator composed of a piezoelectric bar, a taper part and a head part. A modified Mason's model was used for the performance analysis and the design of transducers, and the constructed transducers were tested experimentally and numerically by changing the impedance and thickness of the matching layer in the water tank. The obtained results are summarized as follows:1. Measured resonant and antiresonant frequencies of the piezoelectric transducer with no matching layer in air were 24.7 kHz and 25.6 kHz, respectively. 2. Two resonant frequencies of the piezoelectric transducer with a single matching layer were 21.7 kHx and 26.9 kHz, respectively, in air and 21.4 kHz and 22.7 kHz, respectively, with a water load.3. Two distinct resonance peaks in the transmitting voltage response(TVR) of the developed transducer were observed at 22.0 kHz and 25.8 kHz, respectively, with center frequency of 24.0 kHz. The values of TVR at these frequencies were 130.1 dB re $1 \muPa$/V at 22.0 kHz and 128.5 dB re $1 \muPa$/V at 25.8 kHz, respectively.Reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the numerical values was achieved.

  • In this paper, we applied mode matching and generalized scattering matrix methods to three plane mode matching method for analyzing T-junctions. We calculated all scattering matrix elements by only three times and considered several incident modes. By proposed analysis method, we could analyze various waveguide discontinuity structures more conveniently and accurately. Using the stepped T-junction, we would be able to reduce the reflection coefficient at an input port and use it over wider band. Simulated and HFSS data of T-junctions are compared, showing good agreement for scattering matrix elements. Considering step numbers, height, length and position, we extracted for optimum dimensions and equivalent circuit parameters.

  • In this paper, a hybrid dual band LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) with a tunable matching circuit using varactor is designed for 433MHz and 912MHz RFID reader. The operating frequency is controlled by the bias voltage applied to the varactor. The measured results demonstrate that S21 parameter is 16.01dB and 10.72dB at 433MHz and 912MHz, respectively with a power consumption of 19.36mW. The S11 are -11.88dB and -3.31dB, the S22 are -11.18dB and -15.02dB at the same frequencies. The measured NF (Noise Figure) is 15.96dB and 7.21dB at 433MHz and 912MHz, respectively. The NF had poorer performance than the simulation results. The reason for this discrepancy was thought that the input matching is not performed exactly and a varactor in the input matching circuit degrades the NF characteristics.

  • In this paper, a dual-band MIMO antenna with a band stop matching circuit for next generation USB dongle application is proposed. The proposed multiband MIMO antenna consists of two dual-band PIFAs which provide wideband characteristics. In order to improve the isolation characteristic at the LTE(Long Term Evolution) band, a band stop matching circuit was inserted at the corner of each antenna element. The inserted band stop matching circuit is to suppress the surface current at the specific frequency band and to generate two additional resonances around 770 MHz for LTE band and near 830 MHz for digital communications network(DCN) service. The proposed MIMO antenna can cover LTE and DCN services, simultaneously.

  • This paper presents a power-efficient hardware realization for a motion estimation technique that is based on the full-search block matching algorithm (FSBMA). The considered input is the quarter common intermediate format of digital video. The mean of absolute difference (MAD) is the distortion criteria employed for the block matching process. The conventional architecture considered for the hardware realization of FSBMA is that of the shift register-based 2-D systolic array. For this architecture, a conservative approximation technique is adapted to eliminate unnecessary MAD computations involved in the block matching process. Upon introducing the technique to the conventional architecture, the power and complexity of its implantation is reduced, while the accuracy of the motion vector extracted from the block matching process is preserved. The proposed architecture is verified for its functional specifications. A performance evaluation of the proposed architecture is carried out using parameters such as power, area, operating frequency, and efficiency.

  • A tapered impedance-matching line is designed by an inverse scattering method for the one-dimensional medium. The phase compensation factor(PCF) is introduced in order to reduce the error in the inverse scattering process to reconstruct the permittivity profile. By estimating the permittivity profile of the virtual one-dimensional dielectric medium whose reflection characteristic is the same as that of the specified matching line, the matching line is synthesized. The method can be used to design impedance-matching lines with arbitrary passband characteristics without any equivalent circuit analysis. The inevitable errors in the method using the time-domain reflection coefficient can be avoided by using the frequency-domain reflection coefficient.

  • Borate nonlinear optical crystals have been used as frequency conversion devices in many fields due to their unique transparency and nonlinearity from ultraviolet to visible spectral range. In this study, we theoretically and numerically investigate the properties of broadband second harmonic generation (SHG) in the recently reported Pna21-Ba3Mg3(BO3)3F3 (BMBF) crystal. The technique is based on the simultaneous achievement of birefringence phase matching and group velocity matching between interacting waves. We discussed all factors required for broadband SHG in the BMBF in terms of two types of phase matching and group velocity matching conditions, the beam propagation direction and the corresponding effective nonlinearity and spatial walk-off, and the spectral responses. The results show that bandwidths calculated in the broadband SHG scheme are 220.90 nm (for Type I) and 165.85 nm (for Type II) in full-width-half-maximum (FWHM). The central wavelength in each case is 2047.76 nm for Type I and 1828.66 nm for Type II at room temperature. The results were compared with the non-broadband scheme at the telecom C-band.

  • The impedance matching circuit design technique based on the phasor plot introduced in this paper is based on the impedance triangle of electric circuit. It is a technique that designs through the construction of a phasor figure using the values given to the matching circuit design. The design pattern is based on L-type, inverted L-type, T-type, and 𝜋-type, and unknown reactance elements are determined through phasor shapes. In this paper, using a design by phasor plot, we design several cases, such as the case where the input and output ports are pure resistance and have reactance. It was confirmed that the design value was verified by serial-parallel equivalent conversion to achieve matching. This design technique can immediately grasp the phase or size of input/output power, so it is expected to be applied mainly in a low frequency band due to rapid design change and application.

  • This paper proposed the method of creating image mosaic in automated fashion. It is well known that geometric and radiometric balance in adjacent images should be maintained in mosaicking process. The seam line to minimize geometric discontinuity was extracted using Minimum AbsoluteGray-Difference Sum considering constraint condition in search width. To maintain the radiometric balance of images acquired at different time, we utilized Match Cumulative Frequency, Match Mean and Standard Deviation and Hue Adjustment algorithm. The mosaicked image prepared by the proposed method was compared with those of commercial software. Experiments show that seam lines were extracted significantly well from roads, rivers. ridgelines etc. and Match Cumulative Frequency algorithm was performed pretty good in histogram matching
