  • In this paper, we propose a stereo matching method to improve the image quality at the hole and the disparity discontinuity regions. The stereo matching method extracts disparity map finding corresponding points between stereo image pair. However conventional stereo matching methods have a problem about the tradeoff between accuracy and precision with respect to the length of the baseline of the stereo image pair. In addition, there are hole and disparity discontinuity regions which are caused by textureless regions and occlusion regions of the stereo image pair. The proposed method extracts initial disparity map improved at disparity discontinuity and miss-matched regions using modified AD-Census-Gradient method and adaptive weighted cost aggregation. And then we conduct the disparity map refinement to improve at miss-matched regions, while also improving the accuracy of the image. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method produces high-quality disparity maps by successfully improving miss-matching regions and accuracy while maintaining matching performance compared to existing methods which produce disparity maps with high matching performance. And the matching performance is increased about 3.22(%) compared to latest stereo matching methods in case of test images which have high error ratio.

  • This paper describes an acoustic communication receiver structure, which is designed for QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) signal with 25 kHz carrier frequency and 5 kHz symbol rate, and takes samples from received signal at 100 kHz sampling rate. Based on the described receiver structure, optimum design parameters, such as number of taps of FF (Feed-Forward) and FB (Feed-Back) filters and forgetting factor of RLS (Recursive Least-Square) algorithm, of joint equalizer are determined to minimize the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of the joint equalizer output symbols when the acquisition data in shallow water using implemented acoustic transducers is decimated at a rate of 2:1 and then enforced to the input of receiver. The transmission distances are 1.4 km, 2.9 km, and 4.7 km. Analysis results show that the optimum number of taps of FF and FB filters are different according to the distance between source and destination, but the optimum or near optimum value of forgetting factor is 0.997. Therefore, we can reach a conclusion that the proper receiver structure could change the number of taps of FF and FB filters with the fixed forgetting factor 0.997 according to the transmission distance. Another analysis result is that there are an acceptable performance degradation when the 16-tap-length simple filter is used as a low-pass filter of receiver instead of 161-tap-length matched filter.

  • One-dimensional shear wave velocity structure of North Korea is constrained using short (2-sec) to long period (30-sec) Rayleigh waves generated from four seismic events in China. Rayleigh waves are well recorded at the five broadband seismic stations (BRD, SNU, CHNB, YKB, KSA) which are located near to the border between North and South Korea. Group velocities of fundamental-mode Rayleigh waves are estimated with the Multiple Filter Analysis and refined by using the Phase Matched Filter. Average group velocity dispersion curve ranging from 2.9 to 3.2 km/s, is inverted to constrain the shear wave velocity structures. Relatively low group velocity dispersion curves along the path between the events to BRD at period from 4 to 6 seconds may correspond to the sedimentary sequence of the West Korea Bay Basin (WKBB) in the Yellow Sea. The low velocity zone in deep layers (14-20 km) may be related to the deep sedimentary structure in Pyongnam basin. The fast shear wave velocity structure from the surface to the depth of 14 km is consistent with the existence of metamorphic rocks and igneous bodies in Nangrim massif and Pyongnam basin.

  • Observation of standard stars is of crucial importance in stellar photometry. We have studied the standard transformation relations of the UBV RI CCD photometric system at the Maidanak Astronomical Observatory in Uzbekistan. All observations were made with the AZT-22 1.5m telescope, SITe 2k CCD or Fairchild 486 CCD, and standard Bessell UBV RI filters from 2003 August to 2007 September. We observed many standard stars around the celestial equator observed by SAAO astronomers. The atmospheric extinction coefficients, photometric zero points, and time variation of photometric zero points of each night were determined. Secondary extinction coefficients and photometric zero points were very stable, while primary extinction coefficients showed a distinct seasonal variation. We also determined the transformation coefficients for each filter. For B, V, R, and I filters, the transformation to the SAAO standard system could be achieved with a straight line or a combination of two straight lines. However, in the case of the U filter and Fairchild 486 CCD combination, a significant non-linear correction term - related to the size of Balmer jump or the strength of the Balmer lines - of up to 0:08 mags was required. We found that our data matched well the SAAO photometry in V, B - V, V - I, and R - I. But in U - B, the difference in zero point was about 3.6 mmag and the scatter was about 0.02 mag. We attribute the relatively large scatter in U -B to the larger error in U of the SAAO photometry. We confirm the mostly small differences between the SAAO standard UBV RI system and the Landolt standard system. We also attempted to interpret the seasonal variation of the atmospheric extinction coefficients in the context of scattering sources in the earth's atmosphere.

  • Transform, subband, and wavelet transform decompositions are powerful linear transformation tools in image coding because of their decorrelating effects on image pixels, the concentration of energy in a few coefficients, their multirat/multiresolution framework, and their frequency splitting, which allows for efficient coding matched to the statistics of each frequency band and to the characteristics of the human visulal system. Thus, a growingbody of research has bee performed to extend these tools in various kinds of modified formations. Hence, in this paper, an overall survey to achieve a general view on these transformation tools have been attempted. Starting from basic tools such as orthogonal transforms, lapped transforms, QMF(quadrature mirror filter) subband filter banks, and wavelet transforms, their hierarchical extensions, vector extensions, and linear time-varying extensions are investugated in detail.

  • Seismic waveform estimation is based on the assumption that the seismic trace tying a well is one dimensional convolution of the propagating seismic waveform and the reflectivity series derived from well logs (sonic and density). With this assumption, the waveform embedded in a seismic trace can be estimated using a Wiener match filter. In this paper, I experimented a preprocessing procedure that applies both on the seismic trace and on the reflectivity series. The procedure is based on the assumption that the travel time can be estimated better from the seismic trace and that the instantaneous reflectivity values can be measured better on the well log. Thus the procedure is, 1) start-time adjustment and dynamic differential stretches are applied on the sonic log, and 2) seismic amplitudes are balanced such that the low frequency part of the seismic are matched to that of the reflectivities derived from well logs.

  • Cognitive radio systems have been considered as a strong solution of frequency scarcity due to the limit of frequency resources. This paper proposed an active interference management scheme that the secondary system can coexist with the primary system in the same frequency band without interference. Using the proposed protocol, the secondary user acquires interference channel information and transmit/receive filter information and designs precoding matrix using these information. Since interference from the secondary systems are collected to unused subchannels of the primary system, the primary system can suppress interference without additional process. The secondary systems suppress interference from the primary system using whitening matched filter so that the spectral efficiency can be improved. Numerical results provides that the proposed scheme improves performance of the secondary systems without interference to the primary system and do not degrade performance of the primary system even if the number of the secondary systems increases.

  • There are number of methods that track the movement of an object or the change of state, such as Kalman filter, particle filter, dynamic clustering, and so on. Amongst these method, dynamic clustering method is an useful way to track cluster across multiple data frames and analyze their trend. In this paper we suggest the similarity-based dynamic clustering method, and verifies it's performance by simulation. Proposed dynamic clustering method is how to determine the same clusters for each continuative frame. The same clusters have similar characteristics across adjacent frames. The change pattern of cluster's characteristics in each time frame is throughly studied. Clusters in each time frames are matched against each others to see their similarity. Mamdani fuzzy model is used to determine similarity based matching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied to radar reflectivity data over time domain. We were able to observe time dependent characteristic of the clusters.

  • In this paper, Frequency Synthesizer which is widely used for FH-SS system is proposed and the experimental results are analyzed. The performance of the DPLL(Digital Phase-Locked-Loop), which is the main part of the Synthesizer is analyzed by the computer program. Using Maxplus-II tool provided by altera. co., ltd, each part of the DPLL is designed and all of them is integrated into EPM7064SLC44-10 chip. And the simulation results are compared with the characteristics of the implemented circuits for analysis. And the experiential results show that the N value of the loop filter is toggled to adjacent N value, which result in phase jitter of the output. It can be resolved by increasing DCO(Digital Controlled oscillator) clock rate.

  • In Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) manufacturing, the organic over coat materials over coat materials for insulation layer of color filter with acryl ate was widely used. Therefore, we approach that the organic overcoat material can use to insulation layer for color filter and liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer in this research. The LC aligning capabilities was successful stuided for the first time. The organic overcoat layer and polymer layer was coated by spin-coating. In order to characterize the LC alignment, electric optic and residual DC and atomic force microscopy (AFM) image was used. The good LCD aligning capabilities treated on the organic overcoat thin film surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1200 eV can be achieved. Also the good LCD alignment capabilities treated polymer on surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1800 eV can be achieved. Comparing electro-optical characteristics between the Polyimide (PI) and the overcoat, the resultant transmittance of the overcoat considerably matched that of the PI and the residual DC also exhibited similar features with the PI.
