A method is presented in this paper to analyze the dynamic response behavior of suspended building structures. The effect of semi-rigid connections that link suspended floors with their supporting structure on structural performance is investigated. The connections, like the restrains in non-structural suspended components, are designed as semi-rigid to avoid pounding and as energy dissipation components to reduce structural response. Parametric study is conducted to assess the dynamic characteristics of suspended building structures with varying connection stiffness and suspended mass ratios. Modal analysis is applied to identify the two distinct sets of vibration modes, pendulum and bearing, of a suspended building structure. The cumulative modal mass is discussed to ensure the accuracy in applying the method of response spectrum analysis by SRSS or CQC modal combination. Case studies indicate that a suspended building having semi-rigid connections and proper suspended mass ratios can avoid local pounding failure and reduce seismic response.

This work deals with the design optimization of tuned mass damper (TMD) devices used for mitigating vibrations in high-rise towers subjected to seismic accelerations. A stochastic approach is developed and the excitation is represented by a stationary filtered stochastic process. The effectiveness of the vibration control strategy is evaluated by expressing the objective function as the reduction factor of the structural response in terms of displacement and absolute acceleration. The mechanical characteristics of the tuned mass damper represent the design variables. Analyses of sensitivities are carried out by varying the input and structural parameters in order to assess the efficiency of the TMD strategy. Variations between two different criteria are also evaluated.

In this paper, using $\mu$ synthesis algorithm with structured uncertainty, we design controller and apply it for the Two-Inertia resonance(TMS: Two Mass Spring) system. The TMS system is one of the simplest models which generate a torsional vibration. In this system, it is required to design a controller achieving the control performance while suppressing the torsional vibration. Furthermore, when vibration frequency for the system is varying by reason of parameter variations, we should consider parameter variations in controller design. Then, we design two other controller schemes of the PI controller and the standard $H_{\infty}$ controller and compare these controllers with the controller designed by the $\mu$ synthesis robust control method by using simulations and experiments.

EVA Powder modified high strength concretes were prepared by varying polymer/binder mass ratio with a constant water/binder mass ratio of 0.3. The effect of EVA powder on the slump, hydration heat, compressive and flexural strength, toughness and water absorption ratio was studied. In hydration heat test, temperature of hydration reaction displayed almost fixed level regardless of containing rate of EVA powder, but peak time of hydration reaction displayed late inclination as containing rate of powder increases. With the same water/binder mass ratio, the compressive strength and water absorption of EVA powder modified concretes decreased slightly when EVA powder was added and the flexural strength of EVA powder modified concretes rised slightly when EVA powder was added. Also, the toughness of the modified concretes can be improved markedly. The interpenetrating structure between the polymeric phase and cement hydrates formed at a $2{\sim}6%$(containing rate of EVA powder). The properties of the polymer modified concretes were influenced by the polymer film, cement hydrates and the combined structure between the organic and inorganic phases.
Here, we demonstrate the use of MALDI-TOF as a fast and simple analytical approach to evaluate the DNA-binding capability of various peptides. Specifically, by varying the amino acid sequence of the peptides consisting of lysine (K) and tryptophan (W), we identified peptides with strong DNA-binding capabilities using MALDI-TOF. Mass spectrometric analysis reveals an interesting novel finding that lysine residues show sequence selective preference, which used to be considered as mediator of electrostatic interactions with DNA phosphate backbones. Moreover, tryptophan residues show higher affinity to DNA than lysine residues. Since there are numerous possible combinations to make peptide oligomers, it is valuable to introduce a simple and reliable analytical approach in order to quickly identify DNA-binding peptides.

This paper deals with vibration of plates with concentrated mass on elastic foundation. The object of investigating natural frequencies of tapered thick plate on pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinetic design data for mat of building structures. Free vibration analysis that tapered thick plate in this paper. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by use of rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. In order to analysis plate which is supported on pasternak foundation. The Winkler parameter is varied with 10, $10^2$, $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameter is 5, 10. This paper is analyzed varying thickness by taper ratio. The taper ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0. And the Concentrated Mass is applied as P1, Pc, P2 respectively.

Experiments on the condensation heat transfer and pressure drop in the brazed type plate heat exchangers are performed with refrigerants R410A/R22. To investigate the geometric effect, plate heat exchangers with the same pitch and height but different $45^{\circ},\;35^{\circ}and\;20^{\circ}$ chevron angles are used. Varying the mass flux of refrigerant (13~34 kg/$m^2$), the condensing temperatures ($20^{\circ}C\;and\;30^{\circ}C$) and the vapor quality (from 0.9 to 0.15) at the same constant heat flux ($5kW/m^2$), the condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are measured. The heat transfer coefficients decrease slightly with increasing the condensing temperature at a given mass flux in all plate heat exchangers. The pressure drop increases with increasing the mass flux and the quality and decreasing the condensing temperature and the chevron angle.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of an autocascade refrigeration system using the refrigerant miktures of R744 (carbon dioxide) and R134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) as working fluids by simulation and experiment. Cycle simulation using a constant UA model in heat exchangers has been performed for R744/134a mixtures of the compositions in the range of from 10/90 to 30/70 by weight percentage. Variations of mass flow rate of refrigerant, compressor work, refrigeration capacity and COP with respect to mass fraction of R744/134a mixture were presented. Performance test has been executed in an autocascade refrigeration system by varying secondary fluid temperatures at evaporator and condenser inlets. Experimental results show similar trend with those from the simulation.

In this paper, an output feedback is used to reduce the effect of the vibration in the control of a flexible one-link robot arm. A PD control method with a time varying gain is proposed to improve the performance of the system in tip deflection and settling time for the step reference input. By making the change of feedback gain smoothly, th input torque can be made smooth. When there is a payload with unknown mass, an interpolation method which uses the inrehgrated value of the transient response of the hub angle is proposed for the estimation of teh payload mass. This method can be used when the reference input is known and we can get highly accurate estimate for the unknown payload. It is also demonstrated that flexible one-link arm can be controlled prettry accurately by an output feedback in a noisy environment without knowing the mass of the payload.
The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of operating condition and ejector geometries on the hydrodynamics and on the mass transfer characteristic of ejector. The CFD results were validated with available experimental data. Flow field analyses and predictions of ejector performance were also carried out. Variation on the operating conditions was made by varying the gas-liquid flow rate ratio in the range of 0.2 to 1.2. The ejector configuration was also varied on the length to diameter ratio of mixing tube ($L_M/D_M$) in the range of 4 to 10. CFD studies show that at $L_M/D_M$ 5.5, the volumetric mass transfer coefficient increases with respect to gas flow rates. Meanwhile, at $L_M/D_M$ 4, the plot of volumetric mass transfer coefficient to gas-liquid flow rates ratio reach maximum at gas-liquid flow rates ratio of 0.6. This study also shows that volumetric mass transfer coefficient decrease with respect to the increase of mixing tube length.
