An analytical method has been developed to determine multi-elements in human hair samples by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). 0.05 g of hair sample was added to the Teflon digestion bomb together with 1.5 mL of nitric acid and an appropriate amount of In as an internal standard. The sample was then decomposed in the microwave digestion system. The hair certified reference material, GBW 09101, was analyzed for the validation of the analytical method. The determined values were in good agreement with the certified values within the uncertainty range.
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry combined with the isotope dilution method is used for the determination of lithium. The isotope dilution method is based on the addition of a known amount of enriched isotope (spike) to a sample. The analyte concentration is obtained by measuring the altered isotope ratio. The spike solution is calibrated through so called reverse isotope dilution with a primary standard. The spike calibration is an important step to minimize error in the determined concentration. It has been found essential to add spike to a sample and the primary standard so that the two isotope ratios should be as dose as possible. Since lithium is neither corrosive nor toxic, lithium is used as a chemical tracer in the nuclear power plants to measure feedwater flow rate. 99.9% $^7Li$ was injected into a feedwater line of an experimental system and sample were taken downstream to be spiked with 95% $^6Li$ for the isotope dilution measurements. Effects of uncertainties in the spike enrichment and isotope ratio measurement error at various spike-to-sample ratios are presented together with the flow rate measurement results in comparison with a vortex flow meter.

Obesity is a significant problem affecting United States (US) firefighters. While body mass index (BMI) is widely used to diagnose obesity, its use for this occupational group has raised concerns about validity. We examined rates and types of misclassification of BMI-based obesity status compared to body fat percentage (BF%) and waist circumference (WC). Male career firefighters (N = 994) from 20 US departments completed all three body composition assessments. Mean BMI, BF%, and WC were $29kg/m^2$, 23%, and 97 cm, respectively. Approximately 33% and 15% of BF%- and WC-defined obese participants were misclassified as non-obese (false negatives) using BMI, while 8% and 9% of non-obese participants defined by BF% and WC standards were identified as obese (false positives) using BMI. When stratified by race/ethnicity, Pacific Islanders showed high rates of false positive misclassification. Precision in obesity classification would be improved by using WC along with BMI to determine firefighters' weight status.
The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) content in sewage sludge was determined by gas chromatography linked to ion trap mass spectrometry(GC/ITMS) with five deuterated PAHs as internal standards. The minimum detection limit was from 1.66 to 7.14 pg for individual PAH by GC/ITMS. For determining total PAHs(∑PAH) in sewage sludge 84 samples from 74 waste water treatment plants in whole country were analyzed. The average content of ∑PAH far whole samples was 3,289$\pm$3,098 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, and ranged from 142 to maximum 20,102 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg. According to the number of population of the city, the areas were classified as five regions, ie. big, large, middle, small, and rural area in which the waste water treated plants were grown. The contents of PAHs were 4,689$\pm$5,503, 5,839$\pm$6,401, 3,725$\pm$2,053, 2,237$\pm$2,069, and 2,475$\pm$1,489 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg, in big, large, middle, small, and rural area, respectively.
Fragmentations and proton transfer reactions of mono-, di-, and triethanolamines were studied using FTMS. It was found that the most abundant fragment ion was $[M-CH_2OH]^+$. The $[M-CH_2OH-H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. By increasing the ion trapping time in the ICR cell, the $[M+H]^+$ and $[M+H-H_2O]^+$ ions were notably increased for all the samples while the $[M+H-2H_2O]^+$ was observed in the mass spectra of diethanolamine and triethanolamine. The proton transfer reactions between the fragment ions and neutral molecules occurred predominantly by increasing the ion trapping time. The rate constants for the proton transfer reactions were calculated from experimental results. The proton transfer reaction of $CHO^+$ was the fastest one, which is consistent with the heats of reaction. The rate constants for proton transfer reactions of triethanolamine were much slower than those of ethanolamine and diethanolamine because of the steric hindered structure of triethanolamine. The plausible structures of observed ions and heats of reaction for proton transfer were calculated with AM1 semiempirical method.

Construction schedule acceleration due to unreasonable construction planning frequently leads to construction accidents. In order to avoid such inevitable acceleration and to ensure safety in construction sites, there is a need for objective standards to determine appropriate construction duration for each construction process earlier in the process. In order to achieve the goal, intensive experts interviews were firstly conducted to identify candidate drivers affecting construction schedule of road tunnel excavation works. Then, a total of 34 field data was collected from on-going sites to analyze. It was found that actual excavation length per one day on site is varied mostly by Rock Mass Rating(RMR) types from various statistical analyses. Therefore an one-way table of excavation length per a day by RMR types were presented in a form of percentile. The results will help industry experts determine the most appropriate construction schedule for the works, which eventually lead to a zero accident site in many ways.

Ceramide is a lipid in which sphingoid bases and fatty acids are linked by amide bonds. As a marker of skin disease in the human stratum corneum, its disease-causing and therapeutic effects have been partially confirmed, and it is therefore an important element in commercially available cosmetic formulations. However, structural diversity caused by differences in the chain length, number, and location of hydroxyl groups makes quality control difficult. In this study, a method was established to separate different ceramide species using reversed-phase LC-MS/MS and thus enable qualitative evaluation. Separation of four standards was achieved within a short retention time, and the accuracy and sensitivity of the method were demonstrated by the low limit of detection (LOD) calculated based on the calibration curve showing linearity, with R2 > 0.994. After verification of reproducibility and reliability through intra- and inter-day analyses, the efficiency of the method was confirmed through analysis of commercial cosmetic raw materials.

In designing a tunnel, RMR has been widely used to classify rock mass and to decide the support pattern according to the class of rock mass. However, this RMS system can't help relying on the empirical judgment of engineers who use variables which can be obtained only through consideration of the site conditions. In actuality, it is impossible to consider all the rating factors of RMS when using RMR system at the stage of designing. Therefore, in order to confirm possibility of RMR by use of only the quantitative factors for designing, this paper has done discriminant analysis. Rock strength or RQD has high coefficient of correlation with RMR value, and in consideration of the existing standards for rock mass classification, rock intensity and RQD are important factors for classification of rock mass. Through rock mass classification by the existing RMR system and rock mass classification by the discriminant analysis which has considered two variables only, the discriminant analysis using the rock intensity as an independent variable has shown 74.8% accuracy while the discriminant analysis using RQD as an independent variable has shown 74.3% accuracy. In case of the discriminant analysis which has considered both rock intensity and RQD, it has shown 82.5% accuracy. The existing cases have shown 40.3% accuracy at the stage of designing in which all the RMR factors are considered. It means that at the stage of designing, RMR system can work only with the rock intensity and RQD.
Purpose: Presently, any exact standard of radiopharmaceutical doses in pediatric nuclear medicine doesn't exist in the universe. So hospitals are following by manual of vial kit or guidelines of America and Europe based on recommended adult doses adjusted for body mass (MBq/kg) or body surface area (MBq/$m^2$). However, especially for children younger than 1 year and heavier than 50 kg, it's hard to estimate exact dosage for those children. Materials and Methods: In order to obtain objective data of multipliers for pediatric studies, we surveyed 4 major hospitals in Korea. After receiving feedbacks, we changed dosage to multiplier. And we compared multipliers of Korea to America's and Europe's. Results: Most hospitals in Korea are following by body mass formula (MBq/kg). On the other hand, standards don't include proper factors for a child younger than 1 year and heavier than 50 kg. Multipliers for 3 kg children who are injected lower doses than needed are America:0.12, Europe:0.09, Korea:0.05, multipliers for 30 kg children who are injected proper doses are America:0.58, Europe:0.51, Korea:0.45 and multipliers for 60 kg children who are injected more doses than needed are America:0.95, Europe:0.95, Korea:0.91. Conclusions : Through the survey, when calculating doses for children, usually output doses are based on adult doses adjusted for body mass (MBq/kg) but research has shown that standards of all of the compared standards don't reflect exact multipliers for children younger than 1 year and heavier than 50 kg. Therefore, we should give an effort to reduce needless radiation exposure in children by establishing a proper doses standard and also developing better image reconstruction software.
The total arsenic and 6 arsenic species were investigated in 56 fish collagen products using ICP-MS (Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer) and HPLC-ICP-MS(High performance liquid chromatography-Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer). The mean concentrations of total arsenic and arsenic species were 40.103±81.133 ㎍/kg (N.D.~586.686) and 30.070±50.378 ㎍/kg (N.D.~313.871), respectively. The mean concentration of inorganic arsenic was 24.610±32.706 ㎍/kg (N.D.~129.331), and the As(V) (Arsenate) was the most dominant. The standards and specifications of arsenic have not been established for fish collagen products. Our study presents that arsenic levels are relatively safe compared with not only previous studies but also domestic and international standards. However, in one sample, the total arsenic concentration was 586.686 ㎍/kg, showing the inorganic was 8.119 ㎍/kg, and the DMA was 305.752 ㎍/kg, which was high than the Canadian standard for organic arsenic. In conclusion, it is necessary to monitor arsenic levels consistently and establish standards and specifications of arsenic in fish collagen products to assure consumer safety.
