Thermal mass flow meter (TMF) is used measuring the small mass flow rate of gases. Generally, flow rate measuring accuracy of TMF is $\pm2{\%}$ of full scale. TMF is manufactured for specified working pressure and specified working gas by customer. If it were applied for different working pressure and gases, flow rate measurement accuracy decreased dramatically. In this study, a TMF tested with three different gases and pressure range of 0.2 MPa to 1.0 MPa. Effect of specific heat cause to increase flow measurement error as much as ratio of specific heat compare with reference gas. Pressure change cause to increase flowrate measurement deviation about $-0.2{\%}$ as the working pressure decreased 0.1 MPa.

The air and water flow distribution are experimentally studied for a heat exchanger composed of round headers and 10 flat tubes. The effects of tube protrusion depth as well as mass flux, and quality are investigated, and the results are compared with the previous 30 channel results. The flow at the header inlet is annular. For the downward flow configuration, the water flow distribution is significantly affected by the tube protrusion depth. For flush-mounted geometry, significant portion of the water flows through frontal part of the header. As the protrusion depth increases, more water is forced to the rear part of the header. The effect of mass flux or quality is qualitatively the same as that of the protrusion depth. Increase of the mass flux or quality forces the water to rear part of the header. For the upward flow configuration, different from the downward configuration, significant portion of the water flows through the rear part of the header. The effect of the protrusion depth is the same as that of the downward flow. As the protrusion depth increases, more water is forced to the rear part of the header. However, the effect of mass flux or quality is opposite to the downward flow case. As the mass flux or quality increases, more water flows through the frontal part of the header. Compared with the previous thirty channel configuration, the present ten channel configuration yields better flow distribution. Possible explanation is provided from the flow visualization results.

Measurements of local blowing ratio and ammonia-diazo flow visualizations have been conducted for a shower-head film cooling on a first-stage turbine stator. In this study, six rows of normal holes are drilled symmetrically on the semicircular leading edge of a simulated blunt body. The measurements show that for an average blowing ratio based on freestream velocity, M, of 0.5, local average mass flow rate through the first two rows of the holes is less than those through the second and third two rows of the holes, and the fraction of mass flow rate through the first two rows to total mass flow rate has a tendency to increase with the increment of M. The flow visualizations reveal that the injection through the first two row results in inferior film coverage even In the case of M = 0.5, meanwhile the row of holes situated at farther downstream location provides higher film-cooling performances for all tested M. This is because film-cooling effectiveness depends on local mainflow velocity at the hole location as well as the mass flow rate through each row.

Heat transfer augmentation in a rib-roughened duct is affected by the rib configurations, such as rib height, angle of attack, shape, rib to rib pitch, and aspect ratio of a duct. These have been the main subjects in studying the average heat transfer and the friction loss of the fully developed flow. Investigating distributions of local heat transfer coefficients and flow patterns in a duct with the rib turbulators is necessary to find the characteristics of heat transfer augmentation and to decide the optimal configurations of ribs. In the present study the numerical analyses and the mass transfer experiments are performed to understand the flow through a rib roughened duct and the heat transfer characteristics with various angles of attack of ribs. A pair of counter-rotating secondary flow in a duct has a main effect on the lateral distributions of local mass transfer coefficients. Downwash of the rotating secondary flow, reattachment of main flow between ribs and the vortices near ribs and wall enhanced the mass transfer locally up to 8 times of that in case of the duct without ribs.

The present study investigates the effects of bleed flow on heat/mass transfer and pressure drop in a rotating channel with transverse rib turbulators. The hydraulic diameter ($D_h$) of the square channel is 40.0 mm. The bleed holes are located between the rib turburators on leading surface and the hole diameter (d) is 4.5 mm. The square rib turbulators are installed on both leading and trailing surfaces. The rib-to-rib pitch is 10.0 times of the rib height (e) and the rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio ($e/D_h$) is 0.055. The tests were conducted at various rotation numbers (0, 0.2, 0.4), while the Reynolds number and the rate of bleed flow to main flow were fixed at 10,000 and 10%, respectively. The results suggest that the heat/mass transfer characteristics in the internal cooling passage are influenced by rib turbulators, bleed flow and the Cariolis force induced by rotation. For the rotating ribbed passage with bleed flow, the heat/mass transfer on the leading surface is hardly affected by bleed flow, but that on the trailing surface decreases due to the diminution of main flow. The results also show that the friction factor decreases with the bleed flow.

The present study investigates convective heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics inside a rotating two-pass rectangular duct. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of turning geometry with rotation for 0.0$\leq$Ro$\leq$0.24. The results reveal that the sharp-turn corner has the larger pressure drop and lower heat transfer in the post-turn region than those of the round-turn corner. The strong secondary flow enhances heat transfer for the round-turn corner. Coriolis force induced by the rotation pushes the high momentum core flow toward the trailing wall in the first passage with radially outward flow and toward the leading wall in the second passage with radially inward flow. Consequently, the high heat transfer rates are generated on the trailing surface and the leading surface in the first and second passage, respectively. However, the strong secondary flow due to the turning dominates the flow pattern in the second passage, thus the heat transfer differences between the leading and trailing surfaces are small with the rotation.

The present study has been conducted to investigate the effects of rotation on heat/mass transfer and pressure drop characteristics in a two-pass square duct with and without discrete ribs. For stationary cases, the heat/mass transfer on the surfaces with and without discrete ribs is almost the same or reduced. For rotating cases, the gap flow affects differently the heat/mass transfer on leading and trailing surfaces with discrete ribs. On the leading surface of the first pass, the heat/mass transfer is slightly enhanced due to generating strong gap flow. On the trailing surface of the first pass, however, the heat/mass transfer is much decreased because the gap flow disturbs impingement of main flow. The phenomenon, that is, the heat/mass transfer discrepancy between the leading and trailing surfaces is distinctly presented with the increment of rotation number. The friction losses on each surface with discrete ribs are reduced because the blockage ratio decreases for both non-rotating and rotating cases. Therefore, high thermal performance appears in a duct with discrete ribs.
A new instrument, an average BDFT (Birectional Flow Tube), was proposed to measure the flow rate in single and two phase flows. Its working principle is similar to that of the Pilot tube, wherein the dynamic pressure is measured. In an average BDFT, the pressure measured at the front of the flow tube is equal to the total pressure, while that measured at the rear tube is slightly less than the static pressure of the flow field due to the suction effect downstream. The proposed instrument was tested in air/water vertical and horizontal test sections with an inner diameter of 0.08m. The tests were performed primarily in single phase water and air flow conditions to obtain the amplification factor(k) of the flow tube in the vertical and horizontal test sections. Tests were also performed in air/water vertical two phase flow conditions in which the flow regimes were bubbly, slug, and churn turbulent flows. In order to calculate the phasic mass flow rates from the measured differential pressure, the Chexal drift-flux correlation and a momentum exchange factor between the two phases were introduced. The test results show that the proposed instrument with a combination of the measured void fraction, Chexal drift-flux correlation, and Bosio & Malnes' momentum exchange model could predict the phasic mass flow rates within a $15\%$ error. A new momentum exchange model was also proposed from the present data and its implementation provides a $5\%$ improvement to the measured mass flow rate when compared to that with the Bosio & Malnes' model.
The objective of the present study is to develop a new device that the viscous characteristics of fluids are determined by applying the unsteady flow concept to the traditional capillary tube viscometer. The capillary tube viscometer consists of a small cylindrical reservoir, capillary tube, a load celt system oat measures the mass flow rate, interfacers, and computer. Due to the small size of the reservoir the height of liquid in the reservoir decreases as soon as the liquid in the reservoir drains out through the capillary and the mass flow rate in the capillary decreases as the hydrostatic pressure in the reservoir decreases resulting in a decrease of the shear rate in the capillary tube. The instantaneous shear rate and. driving force in the capillary tube are determined by measuring the mass flow rate through the capillary, and the fluid viscosity is determined from the measured flow rate and the driving force.
In this paper, the relation between displacement of piezoelectric disk and electric field was proposed. From Navier-Stokes equation and Reynold's equation, the relation between flow and gap of plate was determined. This models were further verified by experiments. Based on theoretical study and experimental verification, the proposed model between flow rate and voltage can be used in the design of mass flow controller in gas supplying system.
