An Effective Steel Plate Detection Using Eigenvalue Analysis (고유값 분석을 이용한 효과적인 후판 인식)

  • In this paper, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for detecting each steel plate from a image which contains several steel plates. Steel plate is characterized by line edge, so line detection is a fundamental task for analyzing and understanding of steel plate images. To detect the line edge, the proposed algorithm uses the small eigenvalue analysis. The proposed approach scans an input edge image from the top left corner to the bottom right corner with a moving mask. A covariance matrix of a set of edge pixels over a connected region within the mask is determined and then the statistical and geometrical properties of the small eigenvalue of the matrix are explored for the purpose of straight line detection. Using the detected line edges, each plate is determined based on the directional information and the distance information of the line edges. The results of the experiments emphasize that the proposed algorithm detects each steel plate from a image effectively.

  • In this paper, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for detecting straight line segments in a steel plate image. Line detection from a steel plate image is a fundamental task for analyzing and understanding of the image. The proposed algorithm is based on small eigenvalue analysis. The proposed approach scans an input edge image from the top left comer to the bottom right comer with a moving mask. A covariance matrix of a set of edge pixels over a connected region within the mask is determined and then the statistical and geometrical properties of the small eigenvalue of the matrix are explored for the purpose of straight line detection. Before calculating the eigenvalue, each line segment is separated from the edge image where several line segments are overlapped to increase the accuracy of the line detection. Additionally, unnecessary line segments are eliminated by the number of pixels and the directional information of the detected line edges. The respects of the experiments emphasize that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm which uses small eigenvalue analysis.

  • In this paper, we introduce the implementation of driver fatigue monitering system and its result. Input video device is selected commercially available web-cam camera. Haar transform is used to face detection and adopted illumination normalization is used for arbitrary illumination conditions. Facial image through illumination normalization is extracted using Haar face features easily. Eye candidate area through illumination normalization can be reduced by anthropometric measurement and eye detection is performed by PCA and Circle Mask mixture model. This methods achieve robust eye detection on arbitrary illumination changing conditions. Drowsiness state is determined by the level on illumination normalize eye images by a simple calculation. Our system alarms and operates seatbelt on vibration through controller area network(CAN) when the driver's doze level is detected. Our algorithm is implemented with low computation complexity and high recognition rate. We achieve 97% of correct detection rate through in-car environment experiments.

  • A face recognition algorithm for the user identification procedure of automatic teller machine(ATM), as an application of the still image processing techniques is proposed in this paper. In the proposed algorithm, face recognition techniques, especially, face region detection, eye and mouth detection schemes, which can distinguish abnormal faces from normal faces, are proposed. We define normal face, which is acceptable, as a face without sunglasses or a mask, and abnormal face, which is non-acceptable, as that wearing both, or either one of them. The proposed face recognition algorithm is composed of three stages: the face region detection stage, the preprocessing stage for facial feature detection and the eye and mouth detection stage. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can distinguish abnormal faces from normal faces accurately from restrictive sample images.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 에지 추출 알고리즘을 비교하여 알고리즘이 영상 처리 과정에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 기존의 에지 추출 알고리즘인 Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts 등을 비교 분석 한 뒤 1차 미분 조건에 2차 미분의 단점을 보완한 에지 추출 마스크 방식을 제안한다.

Development of Cloud Detection Method with Geostationary Ocean Color Imagery for Land Applications (GOCI 영상의 육상 활용을 위한 구름 탐지 기법 개발)

  • Although GOCI has potential for land surface monitoring, there have been only a few cases for land applications. It might be due to the lack of reliable land products derived from GOCI data for end-users. To use for land applications, it is often essential to provide cloud-free composite over land surfaces. In this study, we proposed a cloud detection method that was very important to make cloud-free composite of GOCI reflectance and vegetation index. Since GOCI does not have SWIR and TIR spectral bands, which are very effective to separate clouds from other land cover types, we developed a multi-temporal approach to detect cloud. The proposed cloud detection method consists of three sequential steps of spectral tests. Firstly, band 1 reflectance threshold was applied to separate confident clear pixels. In second step, thick cloud was detected by the ratio (b1/b8) of band 1 and band 8 reflectance. In third step, average of b1/b8 ratio values during three consecutive days was used to detect thin cloud having mixed spectral characteristics of both cloud and land surfaces. The proposed method provides four classes of cloudiness (thick cloud, thin cloud, probably clear, confident clear). The cloud detection method was validated by the MODIS cloud mask products obtained during the same time as the GOCI data acquisition. The percentages of cloudy and cloud-free pixels between GOCI and MODIS are about the same with less than 10% RMSE. The spatial distributions of clouds detected from the GOCI images were also similar to the MODIS cloud mask products.

  • The system for the real time face detection is described in this paper. For face verification, support vector machine (SVM) was utilized. Although SVM performs quit well, SVM has a drawback that the computational cost is high because all pixels in a mask are used as an input feature vector of SVM. To resolve this drawback, a method to reduce the dimension of feature vectors using the integer DCT was proposed. Also for the real time face detection applications, low-complexity methods for face candidate detection in a gray image were used. As a result, the accurate face detection was performed in real time.

  • An edge includes information of objects such as magnitude, orientation, and location. Conventional edge detection methods to detect those edge are methods using Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Laplacian operator. Existing methods use fixed weighted mask to detect edges, and their edge detection characteristics are insufficient. Therefore, to remedy weakness of conventional methods, in this paper, an edge detection algorithm using weight with standard deviation and thresholds is proposed.

  • Edge detection is a technique that obtains the particular information of the image using the brightness variation of pixel values and utilized for preprocessing in various image processing sectors. The conventional edge detection methods such as Sobel, Prewitt and Roberts are processed by applying the same weighted value to the entire pixels regardless of pixel distribution and provides somewhat insufficient edge detection results. Therefore, this paper has proposed an edge detection algorithm considering the direction and size of pixels by applying a modified directional mask.
