The Effects of Psychological Well-Being of Married Immigrant Women on Parenting Efficacy (여성 결혼이민자의 심리적 안녕감이 양육효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of psychological well-being on married immigrant women's parenting efficacy. Methods: The participants consisted of 145 married immigrant mothers who were members of multi-cultural family support centers in Andong, Young-ju, Uiseung, and Munkyung cities in Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Results: The main results are as follows. First, the levels of language competence and education were significantly related to psychological well-being, suggesting that the level of language competence as well as the level of education could be main factors for psychological well-being. Further, numbers of children and monthly household income were significantly related to parenting efficacy. Second, psychological well-being was correlated with parenting efficacy of married immigrant women, demonstrating that psychological well-being was the most effective variable for parenting efficacy. Third, self-acceptance, environmental mastery, and personal growth in the psychological well-being significantly predicted parenting efficacy. Conclusion: These findings suggested that we should reconsider the importance of psychological well-being in supporting programs for parenting.

Aspects of the Participation in Agricultural and Social Activities of married Immigrant Women in a Korean Rural Area and the Change of Life Satisfaction Resulting from the Activities (결혼이주여성의 농촌 사회참여활동 실태 및 이에 따른 생활만족도 변화 - 농업.지역사회.취업활동 중심으로 -)

  • In the near future, the multicultural families are expected to be the majority of population living in the rural area, which is an aged and small-scaled society. Moreover, they are expected to have an important role in sustaining the culture of agriculture and a rural community. Therefore, it is very important for them to adjust and settle urgently as well as to develop a policy and social services for the adjustment and settlement. The purpose of this study is to identify different aspects of the participation in agricultural, social, and job activities of married immigrant women in a Korean rural area as well as to investigate the change of life satisfaction resulting from the l activities. The following findings were established from this study. First, married immigrant women participate in local social and agricultural activities in a Korean rural area more frequently than in their own country. However, the frequency of their participation in job activity in a Korean rural area is lower than in their own country. Second, the main factor that prevents married immigrant women from participating in agricultural activity in a Korean rural area is to carry out childcare, household chores, and farming at the same time. Their low participation in social activity and job activity mostly results from their lack of fluency in Korean. Third, married immigrant women score higher in the change of life satisfaction after participating in social activity and job activity than in agricultural activity.

A Study on Library Anxiety Measurement and Analysis of Married Immigrant Women: Focused on Public Libraries in Gwangju (결혼이주여성의 도서관 불안 측정과 분석: 광주광역시 공공도서관을 중심으로)

  • This study investigated the difficulty of married immigrant women in the use of library with LAS (Library Anxiety Scale). The data were collected by LAS survey with 137 married immigrant women in five public libraries in Gwangju from December 2015 to March 2016. As the results, married immigrant women's average anxiety score was 2.91 points which is comparatively higher than the results of previous studies. The statistical analysis of library anxiety scores with personal factors showed statistically significant result in several factors such as Korean skill, spouse's job, purpose of using library, visiting count of library, distance between home and library, and experience from their homeland. Finally this study proposed several suggestions to reduce married immigrant women's anxiety from library.

A Study on the Effects of Acculturative Stress Factors to Mental Health of Married Immigrant Women (여성결혼이민자의 문화적응스트레스가 정신건강에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the mental health of married immigrant women and the effect of cultural adaptation stress of married immigrant women on mental health. The subjects were 239 married immigrant women who live in Pusan city. Collected date were analyzed through frequency, percentage, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows. The 17.6% of the sample had the problem of mental health. The result of stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that factors which predict the level of married immigrant women's mental health were cultural shock, fear, and guilty feeling. The findings give us significant practical implications for social work intervention.

The Phenomenological study on the Meaning of Family Adjustment Process Experience in Married Immigrant Women (결혼이민여성의 가족적응 과정에 관한 현상학적 연구)

  • The purpose of the phenomenological study was to explore the meaning of family adjustment process experience according to married immigrant women's perception and to enrich our understanding. In order to accomplish the purpose of research, six married immigrant women participated. Data were collected through in-depth interview. In addition, the data were analyzed by a Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis. The findings showed that the meaning of family adjustment process experience in married immigrant women were identified as 37 themes and 8categories. The 8 categories consisted of "deciding to marry a foreigner", "first meeting and marriage", "starting to living as a korean", "getting along with husband", "becoming a family with in-laws", "playing one's role as a mother", "missing hometown and family", "adjusting to living in Korea". Based on the findings, we discussed the meaning of family adjustment process experience in married immigrant women. And lastly, this results made suggestions for the social welfare policies and practices for them and their families.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the eco-systemic factors that affect the married immigrant women's employment. The subjects were 229 married immigrant women who live in Ulsan city. Collected date were analyzed through frequency, percentage, and logistic regression analysis. The results are as follows. The factors that affect the married immigrant women's employment are the education level of husband, acquisition of citizenship, Korean language ability, job training experience, and the support of their parent-in-law. According to these findings, intervention strategies that focus on increasing the married immigrant women's employment are suggested.

Approaches to Implementing Public Library Programs for Married Immigrant Women in Korea (결혼이주여성을 위한 공공도서관 프로그램 운영 전략)

  • This study aims to propose desirable operational strategies for public library programs as a means to alleviate the daily difficulties faced by married immigrant women. To achieve this, We conducted an analysis of 326 multicultural programs from 132 institutions, all of which were supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022. The purpose was to gain an understanding of the current situation and identify any issues related to these programs. Additionally, we conducted interviews with married immigrant women to gain insights into the challenges they encounter in Korean society and to determine their specific demands regarding library programs. Furthermore, we interviewed librarians responsible for multicultural services to better comprehend their experiences in managing such programs and to understand their perceptions of multicultural services for married immigrant women. Based on these findings, we have proposed four operational strategies for public library programs targeting married immigrant women. These strategies include: 1) Program content, 2) Program operation method, 3) Building a personal network and utilizing human resources, 4) Collaboration with other institutions.

Contraceptive Knowledge and Practice among Married Immigrant Women (결혼 이주여성의 피임 지식과 실천)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the contraceptive knowledge and practice among married immigrant women. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design with a convenient sampling was used. 170 married immigrant women were recruited in Daejeon city and Chungcheong area. A structured questionnaire was self-administered from November 1, 2011 to January 13, 2012. Results: 48.2% of subjects have used contraceptive practice. The widely used contraception methods were IUD, condom, oral pill and withdrawal. 73.2% of subjects got information about contraception from family and friends, and 18.3% of subjects had no source of information. The subjects' employment state (p = .006), duration of marriage (p = .019), number of baby (p = .021), family type (p = .046) have a significant influence on their contraceptive practice. The subjects' mean score of contraceptive knowledge was very low (5.72 points out of 15 points). There were significant differences in subjects' contraceptive knowledge depending on their education level (p = .002), employment state (p<.001), country of origin (p = .010), and family type (p = .003). Conclusion: To improve contraceptive knowledge and practice for married immigrant women, it is necessary to develop a proper contraceptive education program to enhance contraceptive knowledge and practice. Adjusted education program by this results will contribute to increase sexual health for married immigrant women.

Aspects of the Community Sense and the Effects of Variables on It in Rural Married Immigrant Women (농촌 여성결혼이민자의 공동체 의식 특성과 변인들의 효과 연구)

  • This study aimed at identifying the effect of the variables that influence the community sense in rural married immigrant women and investing it's aspects. The following is the findings of this study. First, the women in religion or with higher life satisfaction in rural regions have a high probability of belongs to the group developed a strong sense of community. Second, the regression analysis showed that the consciousness of community participation(${\beta}$=.55) was the most significant factor influencing on the level of community sense in rural married immigrant women, followed by the women's self-esteem(${\beta}$=.24), and the positivity in agricultural participation (${\beta}$=.09). Third, the consciousness of community participation highly correlated with the positivity in local society participation(r=.36). Based on these research results, self-esteem and local society participation are important to improve the women's community sense in rural areas. Therefore we should be focused to develop the plans improving the women's self-esteem and social participation.

A Study on Analyzing Actual Condition for Developing A Married Immigrant Families Support Program from the Consumer' Viewpoint: Focused on Seoul Residing Married Immigrant Women (수요자 관점의 결혼이민자가족지원 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초 실태 분석: 서울시 거주 결혼이민여성을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct base line research, which is based on requestion of international married immigrant women, for developing social adaptation and family enrichment program for those population who reside in Korea. The survey questionnaire was distributed to 142 international married immigrant women who reside in Seoul to research program participate satisfaction and requestion. Analyze the study results, frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan-post test were utilized. As a result, overall satisfaction toward program that offered by organization was highly ranked. Visiting service showed high score of satisfaction but mentor service that strongly possess sacrifice showed lower score of satisfaction. Vocational and job-related skill improvement education presented less satisfied degree of satisfaction but cooking class, computer class, training education for native-speaking instructor present high level of satisfaction. Second, the requisition of target population, who did not participate program, presented lower than the satisfaction, still present high demand of variety area of program. Among them, assist child nurturing and vocational and job- related skill improvement education showed high demand. It enable to predict that they are eager to get support toward parent role and self-realization. Third, when the difference were analyzed to compare the subjective judgement toward life adaptation in Korea and the satisfaction for program user and the requisition of non-user, the meaningful differences were founded; especially, individuals who possess confident degree of computer skills and Korean(reading, speaking, and listening) showed higher degree of satisfaction to vocation and job-skill related improvement education. This study has a practical implication, which is based on the study results, on developing a program to support international married immigrant women and multicultural families to satisfactory settlement in Korea life and to maintain healthy families.
