  • Purpose - Based on complexity theory, this study develops a configurational model to predict the profitability of Halal cosmetics firms in the Indonesian and Malaysian markets. The proposed research model involves two level configurations-industry context and selling strategies-to predict high and low scores of a firm's profitability. The industry context configuration model comprises industry stability, product homogeneity, price sensitivity, and switching cost. Selling strategies include customer-focused, competitor-focused, and margin-focused approaches. Design/methodology - This is the first empirical study that calculates causal models using a combination of industry context and selling strategy factors to predict profitability. Data obtained from the marketing managers of cosmetics firms are used to test the proposed configurational model using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). It contributes to the current knowledge of business marketing by identifying the factors necessary to achieve profitability using analysis of condition (ANC). Findings - The results revealed that unique and distinct models explain the conditions for high and low profitability in the Indonesian and Malaysian halal cosmetic markets. While customer-focused selling strategy is necessary to attain a higher profit in both the markets, margin-focused selling strategy appears to be an essential factor only in Malaysia. Complexity of the interactions of selling strategies with industry factors and differences between across two study markets confirmed that complexity theory can support the research configurational model. The theoretical and practical implications are also illustrated. Originality/value - Despite the rapid growth of the global halal industry, there is little knowledge about the halal cosmetic market. This study contributes to the current literature of the halal market by performing a set of asymmetric analytical approaches using a complex theoretical model. It also deepens our understating of how the Korean firms can approach the Muslim consumer's needs to generate more beneficial turnover/revenue.

  • The linear regression method was used to model the relationship among a set of perceptions regarding to the importance of physical exercise and the perceived value of physical exercise (as a leisure activity) for aging baby boomers. In terms of a pilot study, we developed two alternative models tested at two different convenience samples. The first sample consisted of 82 aging baby boomers aged 55.65 (sample 1) and the second one consisted of 458 citizens aged 18.45 (sample 2). Through this research approach, we intended to lead to a better understanding of perceived value of physical exercise in the sporting goods marketing context for aging baby boomers. We addressed the core research themes of our study using a convenience survey. Data was collected by means of face to face interviews during the seven week period. The research results showed that the "model 2" better predicts perceived value of physical exercise as a leisure activity for aging baby boomers. We believe that the final findings of our research try can recognize the differences in buying behaviors between aging baby boomers and other target markets and advance marketers of sporting goods strategic tries regarding to consumer strategy management at a store level.

We surveyed about 200 subjects (N = 217) in their 20s and 30s based on the International Music Industry Association's Music Listening 2019 report, then analyzed four different models (before personalization-cognitive experience, before personalization-emotional experience, after personalization- cognitive experience, after personalization-emotional experience) by JASP and R Studio. We conducted Structural Equation Model (SEM) and paired t-test. Personalization factors are about recommendation systems in Spotify. The results of survey represent that companies can shape the Customer Decision Journey (CDJ) ahead especially through enhance cognitive experience. • Purpose: This study aimed to develop a strategic business conceptual model for large state plantations in West Java Province and Banten Province, Indonesia. The model was built through causal relationships and interrelationships between marketing strategies and business strategies that affect business performance on large state plantations. The plantation sector provides the largest contribution to gross domestic product and is an important part of national food distribution efforts. Research design, data, and methodology: This study used a literature review adapted from Pret and Logan (2019), which followed the guidelines of Tranfield et al. (2003), derived from the Scopus website with Q1/Q2 quartiles and inclusion/exclusion criteria published from 2012 to 2021. Results: Based on a systematic literature review approach, we constructed the strategic business conceptual model for large state plantations based on a combination of four causal and interrelationship variables that affect business performance, namely, industry attractiveness, unique capabilities, innovation management, and collaboration strategy. Conclusions: This research explains the relationship between industry attractiveness variables and unique capability as independent variables that can affect business performance through collaboration strategy and innovation management as intervening variables in the plantation sector, especially large state plantations, which have not been found in previous studies.
