다세대 기술 시장진입모드(Market entry mode)의 정의 및 종류에 대한 연구: 반도체 및 스마트폰 시장진입모드 사례 (A Study on Definition and Types of Market Entry Mode of Multiple Generation Technology: Entry Mode Cases of Semiconductor and Smartphone Market)

  • 여러 세대가 공존하는 다세대 기술 시장의 경우 성능, 가격 및 진입시점 등의 조정을 통해 다양한 진입모드가 가능하므로, 다세대 기술의 시장진입모드에 대한 이해가 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 다세대 기술의 시장진입모드에 대해 기술, 시간, 성능(또는 가격)의 다차원 관점에서 개념에 대해 정의하고, 다양한 진입모드의 종류에 대해 모형을 제시하고자 하였다. 문헌리뷰를 통해 다세대 기술의 시장진입모드의 정의 및 종류에 대한 모형을 제시하였고, 도출한 모형의 정합성을 반도체 및 스마트폰 시장 사례를 바탕으로 검증하였다. 다세대 기술의 시장진입모드는 6가지 종류(중간 성능 및 일찍 진입 모드, 높은 성능 및 일찍 진입 모드, 낮은 성능 및 일찍 진입 모드, 중간 성능 및 늦게 진입 모드, 높은 성능 및 늦게 진입 모드, 낮은 성능 및 늦게 진입 모드)로 모형화가 가능하였다. 본 연구를 토해 도출한 시장진입모드의 정의 및 종류에 대한 모형은 다세대 기술의 시장진입모드를 이해하는데 유용할 것이고, 다세대 기술 외에도 다른 특성의 시장에서도 적용 가능할 것이다.

해외의류브랜드 국내시장 진입방식 결정요인 분석 (Factors that Influence the Entry Mode Choice of Foreign Apparel Brands in Korea)

  • A firm seeking to enter a foreign market must make an important strategic decision of which market entry mode to use. Because entry modes involve resource commitments, the initial choice by a firm on a particular entry mode is difficult to change without a considerable loss of time and money. Substantial prior research has been undertaken to explain why firms select a particular entry mode into global markets. However, there exists limited research on this area in the field of foreign apparel brands in Korea, although some research has analyzed influential entry mode factors when Korean textile and clothing companies went overseas. This study reviews prior research on the entry mode choice and analyzes the factors that influence the entry mode choice for 510 foreign clothing brands in Korea. Price range, clothing types, distribution strategy, and cultural distance were considered as influential determinants for different entry mode choices. Crosstabs with a chi-square test and logistic regression are used for analysis. This study shows that high-priced brands and luxury brands are associated with the export orientated entry mode in the Korean market. Brands that pursued the strategy of multiple distribution channels showed a preference for a licensing mode or direct investment over other entry modes, and brands from higher-cultural-distance countries entered the Korean clothing market by licensing mode. The findings of this study are appropriate for the strategic planning of foreign apparel intent on entering the Korean market or for Korean apparel firms planning to enter the global market.

  • We identify key theoretical approaches, constructs, and primary variables of interest that exist in the foreign market entry mode articles. This provides fertile ground for continued development in our foreign market entry mode research. Using the integrated framework, this paper examines the determinants of foreign market entry mode choice by Korean firms and the impact of the entry mode choice on performance in a unified model. Using a database of KIS-VALUE in Korea from 2003 to 2005, we find that the hypothesized effects of related factors on entry modes are partially supported.

Global Strategy Entry Mode Development: Case study of Electric Vehicle Market in Africa

  • This research report cuts across management sciences (market strategy entry mode development) and innovative technology (Electric Vehicle (EV)) alongside measures to submerge global warming. The development of a successful entry mode for the electric Vehicle into the African continent is the main objective of the study. The study focuses on an analysis of how electric car manufacturers can enter the African market in other to achieve global sustainability and social responsibility. The methodology is based on identifying the factors that affect the choice of an entry mode into international markets by multinational companies desiring to leverage their revenue through a foreign market. It also offered a quantitative approach that can support the economic and sustainability entry mode model for EVs and a qualitative approach of Porter's five forces analysis as an entry mode coaching tool for EVs. These proxies are used in quite a wide range of multivariate statistical methods (trend analysis, ratio, and probability, comparative t-test technique, auto-regression, and ordinary least square technique). The result acknowledges joint venture and setting of the plant (physical presents) as the optimal entry mode in African EV market. It requires the EV manufacturers a tire-free emission innovation technology in order to optimize the global sustainability initiative.

외식기업의 해외 시장 진입 방식 결정요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Determinants of Entry Mode in the Overseas Market for Food Service Enterprises)

  • 세계의 많은 기업들이 세계 시장을 목표로 다국적 경영 활동을 전개함에 따라 외식기업도 해외 시장 진출에 박차를 가하고 있다. 그러나 많은 외식기업들이 시장 조사 및 진입 전략, 마케팅, 현지화 등 경영 전략을 장악하지 못하므로 인해 실패를 거듭하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 해외 진출할 때 고려되는 여려 가지 요인을 종합하여 국내 외식기업의 해외 진출을 설명할 수 있는 모형을 개발하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 제조업을 중심으로 검증되어 왔던 해외 시장 진입 방식 선택에 관한 이론적 모형이 외식기업의 해외 진출을 설명할 수 있는 일반적 모형이 될 수 있는가를 검증하고, 외식기업의 해외 시장 진입 방식에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구의 대상은 직접 투자로 해외 시장에 진출하였으며, 2008년 7월 현재 한국에 본사가 있고 해외 시장에 진출한지 2년 이상된 외식기업으로 한정하였다. 실증 분석을 위한 설문지는 자기기입식 설문 조사를 이용하였다. 실증 분석은 SPSS win 15.0을 활용하여 기술 통계분석, 타당성분석, 신뢰성분석, 카이 제곱분석, 분산분석, 상관분석, 이분형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내 외식기업의 해외 시장에서의 진입방식 결정 모형의 설명력은 85.0%로 나타났다. 외식기업 특성 요인은 기업 규모가 작을수록, 제품 차별화 정도가 높을수록, 최고경영자의 의지가 높을수록 해외 시장에 단독 진입 방식을 선택할 가능성이 높은 것으로 파악되었다. 셋째, 현지 시장 환경 요인의 경우 수요 불확실 정도가 낮을수록, 무역 장벽이 낮을수록, 사회 문화적 거리가 가까울수록 해외 시장에 단독 진입 방식 선택할 가능성이 높은 것으로 파악되었다.

Dynamics of Global Distribution after Initial Entry

  • Purpose - This study involves the following questions: "Does internalization theory fully explain reality?" and "Which additional factors may add extra value to the theory?" To answer these, this study divides market entry mode into two steps, initial and subsequent and then, focuses on the subsequent distribution step; that is, the post-entry strategy after initial entry. In addition, this study relies on finding strategic orientations that affect the decision of post-entry into foreign markets. Research design, data, and methodology - To investigate this, this study examines 252 cases of Korean online games for each foreign market and the distribution mode at the product-team level. Results - The result shows that companies use different distribution strategies as a post-entry mode, like licensing, or joint distribution rather than exclusive distribution, through subsidiaries even if they already have wholly owned local subsidiaries which have enough experience and resources to select the entry modes among various types and then provide full commitment and control. Additionally, it finds that strategic orientation affects post-entry strategies differently. Conclusions - Therefore, this study is noteworthy and significant, as it practically extends the existing theories such as an internalization and distribution for decision making regarding the overseas expansion of entertainment businesses.

Late Movers' MarketEntry Strategies in the Chinese Retail Market: The Case of a Korean Company

  • Purpose - This study aimed to analyze the strategy of late domestic entrants into the Chinese retail market, focusing on the case of Lotte-Mart, given that there are few studies on market entry strategies of domestic retail companies in China. Research Design, data, methodology - The methodology of this paper is a case study approach, focusing on literature reviews and a few interviews. We conducted a survey by disseminating questionnaires and conducting interviews focusing on the Chinese retail market, and analyzed Lotte-Mart's market entry strategy in China. Results - Lotte-Mart chose M&A as the mode of entry, pursuing quick market entry and rapid expansion. It chose small to medium size cities with relatively less competition. Subsequently, Lotte-Mart devoted significant effort towards localization, attempting to organize stores and assorting products to fit the Chinese consumers' preferences. It operated CSR programs to increase its brand awareness and to create a favorable brand image. Conclusions - Lotte-Mart now needs to devise alternative corporate strategies for business expansion and growth. An understanding of the Chinese retail market and the case study analysis of Lotte-Mart's market entry strategy offers significant insights for domestic retail companies looking to expand into China.

Doing Business in India: The Lotte Mart Case

  • In December 5, 2006, "The Economic Times", India's the most famous economy daily newspaper, reported Korea Lotte Mart is planning to enter into India's market. Lotte group, marking number 7th in Korea's list of conglomerates, established VRIC(Vietnam, Russia, India, China)'s strategy. This strategy is targeted to enter into emerging markets such as Vietnam, Russia, India, China and etc. As of 2007, Lotte Group aggressively is placing its subsidiaries such as Lotte Department Store in Russia and China, Lotte Mart in Vietnam and China and Lotte Confectionery in China and India, into emerging markets. From this case, Based on the assumption of Lotte Mart's India market entry scenario, this study considers various decision-making factors such as market attractiveness evaluation, timing of entry, entry mode, location, scale, positioning, operation strategy, and others, while developing an overseas market entry strategy. This case study also provides India's distribution market environment that Korean companies can utilize when entering into the Indian market in the near future.

중소기업의 해외시장진입방식 결정요인과 경영성과에 관한 연구 (The Study on Factor and Performance for SMEs' Global Market Entry Mode)

  • 본 연구는 중소기업의 글로벌 시장 진출 전략에 있어 통제정도에 영향을 미치는 결정 요인들을 선행 연구를 통해 추출하고, 해외 진출과 관련된 성과를 분석하였다. 연구를 위해 중소기업의 해외진출 전략요인을 크게 기업역량과 정보역량으로 구분하였다. 기업역량에는 기술사업화 역량, 기업내부 역량, 글로벌 역량을 그 대상으로 하였으며, 정보역량은 해외 수요시장 정보역량과 해외 선진기술 정보역량을 고려하였다. 분석을 위해 통제변수를 포함한 총 27개 변수를 활용하였으며, 성과변수로는 재무적 변수와 비재무적 변수를 활용하였다. 중소기업의 해외 시장 진출 시, 기업의 진입 전략과 관련하여 진입통제 모드에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 알아보고, 나아가 선택한 통제 모드가 성과에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 분석하기 위해 가설을 수립하였다. 가설 검증을 위해 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였으며 성과와 관련된 추가적 분석을 위해 다중회귀분석과 T-test를 수행하였다.

국가 관련 감정이 소비자들의 구매의도에 미치는 영향: 해외진입방식의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Effects of Country-Related Affect on Consumers' Purchase Intention: Focusing on the Moderating Roles of Market Entry Modes)

  • An extensive body of research on the effects of country-of-origin has emerged in the international marketing and business literature streams. Nonetheless, extant studies do not satisfactorily demonstrate whether and how a foreign firm's choice of market entry mode influences consumers' purchase intentions of its product in country-related affect contexts. Using a survey and an experimental design, we aimed to provide evidence of the effects of the choice on consumers' evaluation and attitude of its product in an animosity context and in a national image context. Through the survey, we collected data regarding consumer animosity, national image, product evaluation, and product attitude from 185 university students and tested the hypotheses that consumer animosity and national image have effects on foreign product evaluation and attitude. The results of the survey research show that personal animosity has a negative effect on consumers' evaluation of foreign products and that a country's image regarding economics has positive effects on consumers' attitude toward foreign products as well as consumers' evaluation of foreign products. In the experimental design, we divided subjects into four groups and exposed them to several descriptions of hypothetical purchase situations. Conducting a 2 (market entry modes)${\times}2$ (country-of-origin) ANOVA, we tested the hypothesis that a market entry mode influences foreign product evaluation and attitude. The results of the experimental study reveal that in a high country-related product association (Germany), market entry modes have insignificant effects on foreign product evaluation and attitude. In addition, in a low country-related product association (China), international partnership has more positive effects on foreign product evaluation and attitude than does exporting.
