  • Since ancient times, various herbal medicines have been used in folk medicine to treat a variety of diseases. While the majority of drugs belong to the Kingdom of Plantae, some drugs from the Kingdom of Animalia are listed in various Materia medica of alternative medicines. Animal-derived drugs are mentioned in the Unani system of Medicine (USM) and have been used successfully to treat a variety of diseases. Marjān (Corallium rubrum) is a vital marine drug of animal origin that has been used in USM since ancient times and continues to be used today. It possesses a variety of beneficial pharmacological properties, including tonic effects on the heart, brain, stomach, and eyes, pregnancy protection, expectorant, and hemostyptic properties. It is used to treat hemoptysis, palpitation, bleeding piles, hemiplegia, heart failure, and general weakness. It is also an ingredient in a variety of Unani formulations with pharmacological significance. Unani physicians expanded the uses of Marjan and successfully used it to treat a variety of new diseases. There is a dearth of scientific research on its pharmacological and medicinal properties. The urgent need is to validate the Unani claims about its beneficial cardiac and nervine actions, as well as other significant actions mentioned in the Unani literature.

  • We prove, in this note, that a Zabavsky ring R is an elementary divisor ring if and only if R is a $B{\acute{e}}zout$ ring. Many known results are thereby generalized to much wider class of rings, e.g. [4, Theorem 14], [7, Theorem 4], [9, Theorem 1.2.14], [11, Theorem 4] and [12, Theorem 7].

  • Let R be a 2-primal strongly 2-nil-clean ring. We prove that every square matrix over R is the sum of a tripotent and a nilpotent matrices. The similar result for rings of bounded index is proved. We thereby provide a large class of rings over which every matrix is the sum of a tripotent and a nilpotent matrices.

  • In recent years, using computer networks (wired and wireless networks) has been widespread in many applications. As computer networks become increasingly complex, the accompanied potential threats also grow to be more sophisticated and as such security has become one of the major concerns in them. Prevention methods alone are not sufficient to make them secure; therefore, detection should be added as another defense before an attacker can breach the system. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have become a key component in ensuring systems and networks security. An IDS monitors network activities in order to detect malicious actions performed by intruders and then initiate the appropriate countermeasures. In this paper, we present a survey and taxonomy of intrusion detection systems and then evaluate and compare them.

  • The Slovenian management have already for a while been intensely trying to catch up the West. We can not generalize this movement yet, though it can be observed in many companies. According to the latest data, already 30% of all employees in Slovenia are participating in the project of quality. More than 400 companies have ISO 900x certified quality systems (in 1999). Our interest as quality consultants, researchers and auditors is the research of the added value given by the ISO 900x certification process to company. This article shows only some result of the research The influence of ISO 9000 certificate on organisation's competitiveness. The research was conducted in 1998 for Slovenian companies.

  • In this work, the calculated nuclear quadrupole coupling constants of $^{17}O$ in some styrylquinoline conformers were presented. The calculations were carried out to find the relationships between the charge distribution of styrylquinolines and their pharmaceutical behavior and to explore the differences among the electronic structures of some conformers of these potent HIV IN inhibitors. Furthermore, the HIV IN inhibitory of R1 and R2 rotamers was compared. On the basis of our results: - Charge density on oxygen atoms of carboxyl moiety has a dominant role in the drug activity. - The a conformer in which a divalent hydrogen atom is a link, has more capability in antiviral drug treatment. - The R1 conformer, as a $Mg^{+2}$ chelating agent, is better than R2 conformer and thus it is more inhibitor of HIV IN.

  • Experience shows that the solution to waste management in any national programme is lengthy and burdened with uncertainties. There are several uncertainties that contribute to the costs associated with spent fuel management. In this work, we have analysed the impact of the current nuclear data on the isotopic composition of the spent fuel and consequently their influence on the main spent fuel observables such as decay heat, activity, neutron multiplication factor, and neutron and photon source terms. Nuclear libraries based on the most general nuclear data ENDF/B-VII.0, ENDF/B-VII.1, ENDF/B-VIII.0 and JEFF-3.3 are considered. A typical NPP Krško fuel assembly is analysed using the Monte Carlo code Serpent 2. The analysis considers burnup of up to 60 GWd/tU and cooling times of up to 100 years. The comparison of results showed significant differences, which should be taken into account when selecting the library and evaluating the uncertainty in determining the characteristics of the spent fuel.

  • A new, simple and fast flow injection analysis (FIA) method has been developed for the indirect determination of nitrite. The proposed indirect automatic method is based on the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate using a lead(IV) dioxide oxidant microcolumn where the flow of the sample through the microcolumn reduces the $PbO_2$ solid phase reagent to Pb(II), which is measured by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The absorbance of Pb(II) are proportional to the concentration of nitrite in the samples. The calibration curve was linear up to 30 mg $L ^{-1}$, with a detection limit of 0.11 mg $L ^{-1}$ for a 400 mL injected sample volume and a sampling rate of about 80 $h ^{-1}$. The results exhibit no interference from the presence of large amounts of ions. The developed procedure was found to be suitable for the determination of nitrite in foodstuffs and wastewaters. A relative standard deviation better than 0.9% was obtained in a repeatability study. The reliability of the method was established by parallel determination against the standard method.

  • Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine neoplasia. The medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is one of the most aggressive forms of thyroid malignancy, accounting for up to 10% of all types of this disease. The mode of inheritance of MTC is autosomal dominantly and gain of function mutations in the RET proto-oncogene are well known to contribute to its development. MTC occurs as hereditary (25%) and sporadic (75%) forms. Hereditary MTC has syndromic (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A, B; MEN2A, MEN2B) and non-syndromic (Familial MTC, FMTC) types. Over the last two decades, elucidation of the genetic basis of tumorigenesis has provided useful screening tools for affected families. Advances in genetic screening of the RET have enabled early detection of hereditary MTCs and prophylactic thyroidectomy for relatives who may not show any symptom sof the disease. In this review we emphasize the main RET mutations in syndromic and non syndromic forms of MTC, and focus on the importance of RET genetic screening for early diagnosis and management of MTC patients, based on American Thyroid Association guidelines and genotype-phenotype correlation.
