  • Information of freight tracking and tracing is one of core elements in logistics point of view. We can monitor the vehicle or vessel where freights are loaded and get the in-transit data via GPS. However, security problem exists after the shipments are unloaded. RFID is well utilized for securing the container which products are stuffed into. International standard organization sets relevant specification and e-seal appears to be at issue. The paper investigates current status of corresponding technology and proposes the policy for development of logistics industry.

  • This paper describes two kinds of personal hand-held electronic devices to support marine leisure safety. The one is Radar response-type safety device triggering by the pulse signal from a commercial 9GHz-band Radar to provide quick search and rescue with combined civilian-government-military fleets. The other one is M-RFID (Marine Radio Frequency IDentification) based safety electronic device using 900MHz Tx/Rx with spread spectrum frequency hopping and GPS. Through the field tests at sea using Korea Coast Guard's warship the operating performances are verified. Further plan for practical use of each device was also discussed.

  • Finding out the exact location of survivors in short period of time is critical to conduct rescue activity successfully in oceans. Current technology with natural circumstances limits the activity that our efforts come along. R&D Center housed at Korea Coast Guard (KCG) has developed the system named "RFID for Life jacket" which enables us to access the location of persons under distressed situation. The RFID has been widely known as state-of-art technology to monitor the location even in inland or in ocean. Composed of tag, antenna. reader and middleware, RFID is attached to attached to a life jacket that people usually wears in recreational activity. By conducting experiments in pilot-scale several times, successful results showing 96.7% of transmission within 3.5km in diameter were produced. This study explains the routes of experiments to reach the goal and expected results coming from this accomplishments.

  • In this paper, a rectenna for wireless power transmission at 900MHz is proposed. Rectenna is a device transforming RF power into DC power and it may consist of a antenna, rectifying and charging circuits. In this paper, we designed a slot antenna to receive 900MHz signal, a rectifying circuit of about 40% efficiency at 0dBm input, and a charging circuit to store a weak power signal and supply constant voltage to load. From the experiment using a RFID reader as a transmitter for 1W power, it was found that the proposed rectenna receiving about 0dBm power can supply 3.3V constant voltage to 50$k{\Omega}$ load during 280sec.

  • With the international increasing of the important of oceanic researches related to climate changes, resources conservation and development and the advanced application of oceanic researches, advanced countries in ocean have developed the systematic management systems for oceanographic instruments. Despite the increasing realization of need for the establishment of management system, no systematic management system has been built in KOREA. There is an ungently need to construct the efficient and professional maintenance and management system of oceanographic instruments that are extremely expensive for meeting the increasing demands of oceanographic observation and investigation. In this paper, the present possession of oceanographic instruments in KOREA and the need for the establishment of management systems for oceanographic instruments are discussed. In addition, we introduce the total management system for oceanographic instruments using a RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) at KORDI and discuss the necessity of the introduction and establishment for producing high quality data in oceanic researches.

  • In this study, trends in research methods and topics of seabird and marine fish migration were examined. Based on the framework of existing animal migration studies, future research directions were proposed in relation to the migration of seabirds and fish. In terms of research methodology, with the development of science and technology, tracking techniques using radio telemetry, acoustic telemetry, RFID (radio-frequency identification), satellite tracking, and geolocators are widely used to study seabird and fish migration. Research is also conducted indirectly through a population survey and the analysis of substances in the body. Research contents are largely classified into extrinsic factors that affect migration(such as environmental variables and interspecific competition), intrinsic factors such as hormones, anthropogenic activities including fishery and offshore wind farm, and the effect of global climate change. In future studies, physiological factors that influence or cause migration and dispersal should be identified concerning intrinsic factors. For the analysis of migration ability, it is necessary to study effects of changes in the magnetic field on the migration ability of seabirds and fish, interspecific differences in spatiotemporal migration ability, and factors that influence the migration success rate. Regarding extrinsic factors, research studies on effects of anthropogenic disturbances such as fishery and offshore wind farm and global climate change on the migration and dispersal patterns of marine animals are needed. Finally, integrated studies on the migration of seabirds and fish directly or indirectly affecting each other in various ecological aspects are required.

  • Our ocean where three sides are the seas is the state that the environmental pollution damage is serious because of all kinds of wastes. Therefore, environmental pollution will be considerably decreased if we leans forward in the saddle to manage net which is conquering a section equivalent among wastes and will be helpful to marine ecosystem. This study is to develop a fishing net management system identifying nets cast and withdrawn from the vessel The purpose of FNMS is to manage sailing vessels arrival and departure details in order to manage a net abandoned in the ocean, and restrain the occurrence of the wasted net abandoned without permission in the ocean, and prevent environmental pollution and sailing vessels sank in and around the ocean.

  • Since 11 September 2001, the awareness of terrorists' actions has clearly risen. The potential threat of terrorists using containers poses a large risk to our economies and to our societies. In order to protect cargo from damage and terrorist threats, business and government turn to RFID and IC tags, and tradition container is replaced by IC smart container. In this study, presented application of IC tag and future tasks to Container transport by sea in viewpoint of security strengthening. First, realization and international SCM realization structural order that cover container supply chain whole of international standardization and association between industry are certainly needed. Second, it may have to try in technical development for IC tag Ratio that can read elevation moment develop suitable IC tag or reader in International Standard. Third, Need to establish concrete use policy as soon as possible in national dimension at the same time effort for international standard normalization of frequency. Finally, it shows to uses jointly with electron sealing and must solve problem about usable plan and information leak.
