In this research, a few paints in the shipyard were selected and analyzed for the component and ozone production in marine paint using TVOC and GC/FID, ozone generation index (MIR, POCP) to establish measures of $VOC_s$ effectively. The concentrations of TVOC ranged between approximately 300~400 g/L and 400~500 g/L, respectively and these showed 37% of whole. Our results indicated that the main constituents of marine paints were m,p,oxylene (49%), ethyl benzene (10%), toluene (8%) and 2-propanol (5%). It was also found that xylene concentration have relatively higher impact on ozone generation. The types of paints were also investigated for their potentials. The biggest contributor was the 1 Pack Finish paint. The rest is, in their contributing order, 1 Pack Finish paint, 2 pack Finish paint, Anti-fouling paint, 2 Pack A/C paint, Ballast paint and 1 Pack A/C paint.

Airless spray which is widely used for painting to ship blocks and hull sides is the coating method for attaching atomized paint material to the substrate using spray tip nozzle with compressed air. When the paint material which has high solid contents such as epoxy primer paint is atomized by passing through spray tip nozzle with high pressure, the nozzle composed of tungsten carbide(WC) undergoes the erosive wear, leading to widening of nozzle hole. The deformation of nozzle hole induces improper spray pattern and coating failures such as finger pattern and sagging because the conditions of spray pump pressure and paint flow rate for developing full spray pattern are changed. In this study, an appropriate replacement cycle of spray tip was predicted by measuring the erosive wear tendency as increasing the spraying time of epoxy primer paint.
This paper investigated the impact of economic cycles in the shipbuilding industry on managerial performance of marine paint and coatings firms. As part of the upstream to ship construction, the marine equipment industry plays a critical role in determining the competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry. Despite a close interaction between the two sectors, the majority of research on the marine equipment industry has highlighted securing competitiveness edge and developing advanced technologies, paying little academic attention to the relationship between shipbuilding and managerial performance. In this regard, this paper examined how economic cycles in shipbuilding affected growth and profitability of marine paint and coatings firms. To this end, managerial performances of six marine paint and coatings firms for the period of 2003-2022 were analyzed in panel regressions. Results indicated that the shipbuilding economic cycle proxied by delivery amounts of Korean shipyards was positively associated with growth and profitability of marine paint and coatings firms. However, there was divergence in statistical significance by shipbuilding indicators. While coefficients of compensated gross tonnage, gross tonnage, and monetary amount were statistically significant, that of deadweight tonnage was not. Findings of this study imply that managerial performances of marine paint and coatings firms are affected by the amount of value added from the shipbuilding industry rather than its absolute size.
In any developing nation major investment goes for infrastructure and it is not exception in India. Good numbers of buildings, bridges, shopping malls, car parks etc. are coming up with steel for sustainable development. Thus protecting the structures from corrosion are the challenges faced by professionals for all types of steel structures. About 3% of GDP is accounted for loss due to corrosion. To combat this up to date corrosion map is called for as the country has wide variation of climatic zones with vastcoastline. Logically organic paint system can be prescribed based on the corrosion rate on bare steel with respect to environment. Present paper will emphasis on the study conducted on two types of structural steel coated with organic paint located in twomarine environment having been exposed for three years, Test coupons made from steels both bare and coated are deployed at two field stations having marine (Digha) and industrial marine (Channai) environments. Various tests like AC impedance DC corrosion, polarisation, salt spray test, $SO_2$ chamber and Raman spectroscopy were carried out both in laboratory on fresh as well as coupons collected from exposure sites. Rust formed on the bare and scribed coated coupons are investigated. It is found that normal marine environment at Digha exhibits higher corrosion rate than polluted marine environment in Channai. Rust analysis indicates formation of ${\propto}$-FeoOH protects or reduces corrosion rate at Channai and formation of non-protective ${\gamma}$-FeoOH increases corrosion rate at Digha. The slower corrosion rate in Channai than at Digha is attributed due to availability of $SO_2$, in the environment, which converts non‐protective rust ${\gamma}$-FeoOH to protective rust ${\propto}$-FeoOH. While comparing the damage on the coated panels it is found that low alloy structural steel provides less damage than plain carbon steel. From the experimentations a suitable paint system specification is drawn for identical environments for low medium and high durability.
There are many kinds of protection methods for marine structures, with varyingeconomical and environmental advantages. The coating protection method is being widely used in both continental and marine structures. In this study, by adding some additives, such as Zn powder(Zn), carbon black(CB) to epoxy anti-corrosive paint, the effect on the corrosion resistance was investigated throughan electrochemical method. The additive of Zn(20)+CB(10) showed the lowest passivity current density. Polarization resistance in both cyclic voltammogram and impedance measurement of an additive of Zn(20)+CB(10) was also the largest value, compared to other additives. Furthermore, rusting and bubbling was not observed on the surface of the test specimen with the additive of Zn(20)+CB(10), compared to other specimens. It is suggested that the corrosion resistance of the anti-corrosive paint can be improved by using some additives.

The painting process of large ships is an intense manual operation that typically comprises 9-12% of the total shipbuilding cost. Accordingly, shipbuilders need to estimate the required amount of anti-corrosive coatings and painting resources for inventory and cost control. This study aims to develop a software system which enables the shipbuilders to estimate paint area using existing 3D CAD ship structural models. The geometric information of the ships structure are extracted from the existing shipbuilding CAD/CAM system and used to create painting zones. After specifying the painting zones, users can generate the paint faces by clipping structural parts inside each zone. Finally, the paint resources may be obtained from the product of the paint areas and required paint thickness. Implementing the developed software system to real shipbuilders' operations has contributed to improved productivity, faster resource estimation, better accuracy, and fewer coating defects over their conventional manual calculation methods for painting resource estimation.

The purpose of this paper is to establish the basic procedure and method for selection of preferred anti-fouling paint considering economic analysis according to ship's speed loss based on ISO 19030 that has been published in 2016 to prescribe practical methods for measuring changes in ship specific hull and propeller performance. In this study, six (6) anti-fouling paint products have been assumed for alternatives with each target maximum average speed loss and carried out comparison of the alternatives and sensitivity analysis in assumed conditions for selection of the preferred alternative.
It has been observed that coated steel structures deteriorate more rapidly than the designed lifetime due to acid rain caused by air pollution, etc. Therefore, improving the corrosion resistance of anti-corrosive paint is very important in terms of safety and the economic point of view. In this study, the corrosion resistance of five kinds of anti-corrosive paints, including the Acryl, Fluorine, and Epoxy resin series, were investigated with electrochemical methods, such as corrosion potential measurements, polarization curves, diffusion limiting current density, etc. As a result, the corrosion resistance of the F101 specimen with the fluorine resin series was found to be superior to the other specimens, while E100 with the epoxy resin series also showed a somewhat good corrosion resistance. Furthermore, it was observed that the amount of water and oxygen entering the inner side of a painted film increased with an increase in immersion time, irrespective of the kind of resin series. However, the oxygen diffusion limiting current density of a specimen with good corrosion resistance was relatively decreased compared to other specimens, because of the difficulty of oxygen diffusion penetrating to the inner side of the film. Consequently it is suggested that we can qualitatively evaluate the corrosion resistance of an anti-corrosive paint by measuring the diffusion limiting current density as an electrochemical method.
Recently, anti-fouling paints which does not include the poison components such as tin(Sn), copper(Cu) have been increasingly developed in order to inhibit the environmental contamination of the sea water. Moreover, the wear ratios of these anti-fouling paints are very important problem to prolong their life time in economical point of view. In this study, five types of anti-fouling paints as self polishing type were investigated on the relationship between their polarization characteristics and wear ratios. It was verified that there was apparently a good relationship between the wear ratio and polarization characteristics, for example, the wear ratio increased with increasing the impedance ratio, and increased or decreased with the corrosion potential shifting in the negative or positive direction respectively. In addition, the wear ratio decreased with decreasing the corrosion current density. Consequently, it is suggested that we can qualitatively expect the wear ratio by only measuring the polarization characteristics. Therefore, before the examination of the wear ratio was actually carried out in the field, the evaluation of polarization property in the laboratory may give a available reference data for their developments.
