The maximum and mean indicated pressure of two stroke low speed diesel engine has been continuously increased with a view of increasing engine power and also reducing fuel consumption. As a result, axial excitation has been increased comparing to that of the previous one. So the axial vibration damper in standard one is applied to all two stroke low speed diesel engine at the free end of crankshaft. Though many studies were carried out for marine use, few has been made for diesel power plant because there was little demand for power plant. Nowadays, diesel engine is much to be used for many benefits. In this paper, the optimum design of axial vibration on the 65 kW diesel power plant with tow 9K80MC-S engines of 9 cylinders was carried out. And the axial-torsional coupled vibration of this shafting system is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.

In the circumstance that high oil price state is continued over the world, the investment in crude oil development by oil major is a trend of increasing. Recently the number of delivered drill-ship for 5 years has been sharply increased all over the world and about twice than that of past 30 years. As addition to the increase of the drill-ship demand, the operation of drill-ships which is delivered recently is about 3,000 meters, ultra deep sea, on average and the work area is expending. Accordingly the drilling system including the size and length of pipe for drilling has been bigger and bigger and the power supply equipment for operation system also has large capacity. Unlike merchant vessel, high power and high voltage of diesel generators are required for drill-ship for which the demand for V-type 320 bore of diesel generator has increased. It is on the raised that the importance of lubrication oil cleaning for diesel generator on drill-ship which has longer time for construction, and also long term low load operation is unavoidable during commissioning of equipments. Recently it was reported that engine crankpin was damaged due to the hard contact caused by the abnormal wear down(Cam wear) on crankpin and bearing. The same pattern of wear down was found through the inspection on series vessels and the other vessel under commissioning. The purpose of this paper is to analyze of the wear mechanism based on the observation and theories and objective research from actual cases and to prepare the counter measures to avoid foreseeable damage when the lubricating oil is not properly cleaned.
Disinfection and maintenance of rearing water in aquaculture is an essential element for the prevention of fish diseases. This is especially important in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in which fish are reared at high density using recycled water. In this study, tilapia was reared in two different RAS (one with plasma generator - PW system, another without plasma generator - No PW system). In plasma treated group, UVT% of water was improved clearly, and the number of heterotrophic bacteria decreased significantly after 40 days. Total weight gain of tilapia in PW system was significantly higher, and other growth indicators were also relatively higher although not statistically significant. In addition, the fish in PW system had a 100% survival rate, and there were no histological differences between fish from both systems. Fish did not seem to be affected by the toxicity of ROS. In conclusion, it is expected that plasma water can effectively deactivate fish pathogens and improve the quality of rearing water.

Ship noise is one of the important factors for the living and health of seafarers, and ef orts to reduce ship noise are actively underway. There are two methods of noise reduction: passive noise Control (PNC) and active noise control (ANC). Unlike cars and airplanes, ANC is not widely used for noise reduction on ships. This study aimed to reduce the noise generated in the engine room by using soundproof panels and high-frequency vibration generators, as well as active noise control (ANC). For this purpose, an experimental model was made using an acrylic box, and the noise reduction effect was measured under four conditions. The experimental results are as follows: First, the soundproof panel had a noise reduction effect in all ranges from 55 dB to 85 dB. In the case of using a high-frequency vibration generator, there was no ef ect in the low noise range such as 55 dB(A), but there was a noise reduction effect in the high noise range such as 70.8 dB(A) and 85 dB(A).Second, when the soundproof panel and the high-frequency vibration generator were used simultaneously, the noise reduction ef ect was up to -2.2 dB(A). The results of this experiment were obtained from an experimental model made of acrylic, and they may be different from actual ships made of steel plate. In future studies, we plan to experiment using iron plate (considering the material, thickness, and structure) used in actual ships. We hope that this study will help to improve the living environment and health of seafarers on ships.

Seafarer sea survival training, such as basic safety refresher training and advanced safety refresher training, in accordance with the STCW Convention, is an indispensable program that can increase the crew survival rate during emergency situations at sea. It is important for crew members to carry out theoretical and practical training with various safety equipment in order to effectively train according to IMO model courses. Therefore, this study suggests the following measures to improve safety training facilities for seafarers by reviewing survival training requirements based on the IMO model course and comparing and analyzing related facilities based on operating cases from domestic and overseas training institutes. First, it is necessary to establish a training environment where seafarers can practice utilizing various, updated safety equipment such as marine evacuation equipment (slides, chutes, etc.). Second, it is necessary to construct an educational environment in which learners can directly or indirectly experience realistic emergency situations by installing marine environment simulation facilities with such equipment as a wave generator, rain fall device, wind generating device, etc. Third, it is also necessary to develop and expand customized training using virtual reality equipment in addition to experiential training, audiovisual training and simulation training.

Recently in order to protect the ocean environment and to reduce energy consumption, shipbuilders have been developing highly economized ships. This research analyzed the possibility of adopting the onshore absorption refrigerator to offshore ships having a cooling system with refrigerant by using the waiste heat of the engine jacket cooling water instead of compression refrigerators. The results showed that R236fa could be a suitable medium for absorbing the heat of the absorber and condenser in an absorption refrigerator. The cooling system using R236fa achieved a high COP of 0.798, which is 15% and 5% higher than an air cooling system with a cooling tower and a water cooling system with a heat exchanger, respectively. The cooling system with R236fa achieved high efficiency with a 25% reduction in flow rate of LiBr solution and only 15.7% flow rate of cooling medium as compared to the water cooling system. The heating of sea water by the engine jacket water flowing out from the generator can prevent the crystallization of LiBr solution due to the low temperature of sea water.

In this study, the generator engine of training ship M/S "HAE RIM" of Kunsan National University which is being operated for 20 years was used in the experiment. The experiment was carried out under the engine speed of 1200rpm, then the load was varied 30 kW intervals from 0 to 90 kW and the injection timing was varied $2^{\circ}$CA intervals from BTDC $19^{\circ}$ to $23^{\circ}$CA. In the case of advancing fuel injection timing from BTDC $21^{\circ}$CA to $23^{\circ}$CA, specific fuel consumption is decreased by 1.37%, NOx is increased by 11.59 %, soot is decreased by 23.5 % and $SO_2$ is decreased by 2.8 %. Accoring to the analysis of effects of fuel injection timing on combustion & exhaust emissions characteristics on an old marine diesel engine, it is proved that the optimum fuel injection timing is BTDC $23^{\circ}$ which is $2^{\circ}$ faster than that of original injection timing.

Offshore working environments such as ships, offshore oil and gas plants, and offshore wind turbines are isolated and directly exposed to rough seas, which pose high risks of safety accidents. Therefore, all workers in offshore plants should be able to cope with emergency situations and must be qualified according to relevant laws and regulations such as the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention) and Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO) standards. In particular, marine workers should be able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in isolated locations or enclosed and confined spaces such as those in life-boats, life-rafts, rescue-boats, etc. Because the floor material is made of rubber, it may be difficult to perform chest compressions in life-rafts used to escape from emergency situations in ships or offshore plants. Chest compressions performed on life-rafts may reduce the accuracy of CPR and increase fatigue for those providing aid. To measure the accuracy and fatigue of those performing CPR in life-rafts, 15 experimenters with more than five years of experience as first aid instructors were exposed to different CPR environments in a marine safety training center equipped with an artificial wave generator. The results showed that the accuracy of CPR in the classroom was 99.6 %, but that in various life-raft environments was only 84 %. T-verification of the two sites confirmed the reduced accuracy of CPR performed on life-rafts. CPR on life-rafts should be performed in groups of two and with the use of automated chest compression devices.
This study experimentally investigates the effect of dimensionality reduction of vibration signal on fault diagnosis of a marine engine. By using the principal component analysis, a vibration signal having the dimension of 513 is converted into a low-dimensional signal having the dimension of 1 to 15, and the variation in fault diagnosis accuracy according to the dimensionality change is observed. The vibration signal measured from a full-scale marine generator diesel engine is used, and the contribution of the dimension-reduced signal is quantitatively evaluated using two kinds of variable importance analysis algorithms which are the integrated gradients and the feature permutation methods. As a result of experimental data analysis, the accuracy of the fault diagnosis is shown to improve as the number of dimensions used increases, and when the dimension approaches 10, near-perfect fault classification accuracy is achieved. This shows that the dimension of the vibration signal can be considerably reduced without degrading fault diagnosis accuracy. In the variable importance analysis, the dimension-reduced principal components show higher contribution than the conventional statistical features, which supports the effectiveness of the dimension-reduced signals on fault diagnosis.
