까막전복(Haliotis discus) 치패용 EP사료내 어분과 해조류 대체원으로서 참치부산물분과 생미강의 효과 (Effects of Substituting Fish Meal and Macroalgae for Tuna Byproduct Meal and Rice Bran in Extruded Pellets Fed to Juvenile Abalone Haliotis discus (Reeve 1846))

  • We investigated the effect of replacing tuna byproduct meal (TBM) and rice bran (RB) with fish meal (FM) and macroalgae (MA) in extruded pellets (EP) supplied as a diet to juvenile Abalone Haliotis duscus in aquaculture. In total, 80,000 juvenile abalone were distributed among eight indoor raceways and supplied with one of four experimental diets. The control diet consisted of FM, fermented soybean meal, corn gluten meal and shrimp meal as protein sources, with wheat flour and dextrin as carbohydrate sources; the control diet also contained MA. In the FM50 diet, TBM was replaced with 50% FM. In the MA 50 diet, RB was replaced with 50% MA. The final diet, FM50+MA50, included TMB and RB in place of 50% FM and 50% MA. Abalone were fed to satiation with little food leftover for 16 weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate of abalone fed the control diet were greater than those of abalone fed the FM50 and MA50 diets, but not different from those of abalone fed FM50+MA50 diet. The proximate composition of abalone soft body did not vary according to experimental diets. Based on these results, it appears that the traditional commercial diet for juvenile abalone, comprising FM and MA, could be replaced with one containing 50% TBM and 50% RB without any retardation of growth.

Development of a tide-simulating apparatus for macroalgae

  • A tide-simulating apparatus was developed for culturing marine macroalgae. The objective of this study was to introduce a novel tide-simulating apparatus that can simulate a diurnal or semi-diurnal tidal cycle in the laboratory. In this apparatus, the seaweeds are move up and down and the water level remains the same during the simulated tidal cycle. The apparatus consists of 18 cylindrical culture tanks (3 blocks $\times$ 6 culture tanks) with 12 cm diameter and 24.5 cm long containing up to 2.5 L of seawater. There is a horizontal plate which covered all 18 culture tanks, and it is raised and lowered by a programmable motor that can regulate exposure time. In one application, seaweeds are attached to braided twine hung on Plexiglas air-tubing. The air-tubing is attached to a lid that is set on a horizontal plate. This apparatus is made of colorless Plexiglas to maximize light transmittance. This apparatus is easily disassembled and transportable to any indoor laboratory, wet laboratory, greenhouse, etc. This apparatus also offers considerable flexibility in terms of design. The size of culture tank can be redesigned by either increasing the height of cylinder or/and using a different diameter of cylindrical Plexiglas, therefore, larger/taller thalli can be cultivated. Growth rates of three eulittoral Porphyra species from different tidal elevations have been compared using this device.

Marine Algicolous Endophytic Fungi - A Promising Drug Resource of the Era

  • Endophytic fungi have currently been acknowledged as the most promising source of bioactive compounds for drug discovery, and considerable progress has been made in exploring their diversity, species richness, and bioprospecting. Fungal endophytes from unique environmental settings offer a pool of potentially useful medicinal entities. Owing to the constant stresses imposed on macroalgae by marine environments, it is believed that algae and their associated endophytic symbionts represent a good source of structurally diverse bioactive secondary metabolites. Despite the proven significance of active metabolites of algal endophytes, little have been exploited. This review highlights the latest discoveries in algicolous endophytic research, with particular focus on the bioactive metabolites from algal endophytes. Compounds are classified according to their reported biological activities, like anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties. Present experimental evidence suggests that a majority of the bioactive metabolites were reported from Phaeophyceae followed by Rhodophyceae and Chlorophyceae. An intensive search for newer and more effective bioactive metabolites has generated a treasure trove of publications, and this review partially covers the literature published up to 2016.

슬러지 냉동처리에 의한 갈조류로부터 바이오가스 생산 (Freeze Treatment of Sludge for the Biogas Production from Brown Macroalgae)

  • 본 연구에서는 해조류 다시마를 바이오매스로 이용하는 혐기성 소화로부터 바이오가스를 생산하였다. 최적의 혐기성 배양조건을 확립하기 위해 슬러지는 $-70^{\circ}C$에서 20 min 동안 냉동 전처리를 하였다. 대조군과 비교했을 때 수소와 메탄가스는 각각 2.7배와 3.4배 증가한 667.28 mL/L와 3420.24 mL/L를 생산하였다. 냉동 전처리한 슬러지의 초기 pH 최적 조건은 7.0이었고, 다시마 바이오매스의 초기 pH 최적 조건은 8.0이었으며 알칼리 조건에서 보다 산성 조건에서 바이오가스 생산량이 크게 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 슬러지의 냉동 전처리와 바이오매스 및 슬러지의 최적 pH 조건에서 최대 643.73 mL/L의 수소와 4291.6 mL/L의 메탄가스를 생산하였다. 이는 대조군과 비교했을 때 각각 2.6배와 4.3배 증가한 생산량이었다. 또한 최적 조건의 5-L 회분식 혐기성 배양에서 바이오가스의 생산량을 측정한 결과 기질에 포함된 다시마에 의해 생산될 수 있는 최대 생산량은 수소 1605.03 mL/L와 메탄가스 4593.71 mL/L로 확인되었다.

New Records on Three Harpacticoid Copepods Associated with Marine Macroalgae in Korea

  • Three harpacticoid copepods, Dactylopodamphiascopsis latifolius (Sars, 1909), Diosaccus ezoensis Ito, 1974 and Ambunguipes rufocincta (Brady, 1880) are recorded as new to the Korean fauna with illustrations, on the basis of the specimens collected mainly from the marine macro algae during the period from June 1990 to September 1997.

Vertical Distribution and Seasonality of Intertidal Macroalgae on the Coast of Hawon-Pando, Southwestern Korea

  • An overview of the spatial and seasonal patterns of phytobenthic communities is described from the intertidal zone at Hawon-Pando on the southwestern coast of Korea based on quantitative and qualitative estimates of macroalgae. There were considerable variations of macroalgal diversity and cover value with the intertidal levels. Tn general, the number of species decreased with increasing intertidal height. The upper region was dominated by Sargassum thunbergii. S. thunbergii and crustose red algae were dominant in the mid intertidal habitat. In the lower intertidal Corallina pilulifera and crustose red algae were the conspicuous dominants. Macroalgal community structure at Hawon-Pando is discussed in the context of functional-form groups. The Hawon-Pando intertidal is characterized as consisting of a relatively high cover of species assigned to the thick leathery, crustose and jointed calcareous groups, and is distinguished by a paucity of the filamentous group.

다시마(Saccharina japonica)의 생장에 따른 영양염 및 CO2 흡수율과 광합성 특성 변화 (Variations in Nutrients & CO2 Uptake Rates and Photosynthetic Characteristics of Saccharina japonica from the South Coast of Korea)

  • 국내 해조류 양식종인 다시마(Saccharina japonica (Laminaria japonica Areschoug))의 영양염 및 무기탄소 흡수율과 광합성 특성을 살펴보기 위해, 부산시 기장군 일광해역 양식장에서 2011년 l월부터 5월동안 시료를 채집하여 실내 배양하였다. 배양 시료의 엽장과 엽폭 범위는 각각 46~288 cm, 4.8~22.0 cm였으며, 이들의 용존산소 평균 생산율은 $6.9{\pm}5.8{\mu}mol\;g^{-1}$ fresh weight(FW) $h^{-1}$, 질산염과 인산염 흡수율은 각각 $175.6{\pm}161.1\;nmol\;g^{-1}\;FW\;h^{-1}$, $12.7{\pm}10.1\;nmol\;g^{-1}\;FW\;h^{-1}$ 그리고 용존무기탄소 흡수율은 $8.9{\pm}7.9{\mu}mol\;g^{-1}\;FW\;h^{-1}$이었다. 다시마 엽장에 따른 이들 성분의 생산/흡수율은 로그함수 관계를 보여, 엽장 100~150 cm 이상부터는 다시마의 광합성 및 생장율이 다소 둔화되는 것으로 나타났다. 용존 산소 생산율과 질산염, 인산염, $TCO_2$ 흡수율은 각각 음의 선형관계를 보였으며, 특히 용존산소 생산율과 $TCO_2$ 흡수율은 높은 상관관계 ($r^2$=0.94)를 나타내어 서로에 대한 간접 지표가 될 수 있음을 의미한다. 다시마의 최대양지수율($F_v/F_m$)과 용존산소 및 무기탄소 생산/흡수율사이에 선형관계가 나타났으며, 양자수율이 높을수록 활발한 광합성작용으로 용존산소 생산이 활발함을 증명하였다. 광합성 형광특성 중 최대상대전자전달률은 비교적 엽체가 생장할수록 증가하였으며, 엽체의 부착부에 비해 상부 말단으로 갈수록 증가하였다. 이는 다시마가 생장할수록 광합성활성 조직 비(단위 면적당 습중량)가 증가하여 나타난 결과로 사료된다. 기장해역에서 다시마에 의한 연간 무기탄소 흡수량은 $1.0\sim1.7{\times}10^3C$ ton으로 추정되며, 이는 부산시 이산화탄소 배출량의 0.02~0.03%에 해당한다. 따라서 해조류에 의한 연안의 탄소 및 물질순환과 지구시스템에서의 역할을 파악하기 위해 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

자외선이 해조류에 미치는 영향에 관한 고찰 (Overview of UV-B Effects on Marine Algae)

  • 산업활동의 부산물인 chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)와 같은 물질들의 대기권 유입으로 오존층의 파괴가 극심해짐에 따라 자외선의 지표유입량이 증가되는 추세를 보이는데, 특히 중파자외선의 증가는 DNA, 단백질, 지질 등에 의한 흡수를 통하여 생물학적 폐해를 야기할 수 있다는 점에서 주목된다. 최근 측정 결과 우리나라 동해안에서 해수표면에 도달되는 중파자외선 광량의 1%가 수심 l0 m까지 침투하는 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 해양생태계 생산성의 대부분이 해양 수심의 상위 2.5%에 해당되는 투광대에 의존한다는 점을 감안할 때 자외선에 의한 막대한 생태학적 폐해를 예견하게 해준다. 실내배양실험 연구에서 중파자외선은 대형해조류의 생장 및 광합성을 억제하고 광합성 색소를 파괴하는 등의 생물독성학적 효과를 보였다. 반면, 자외선의 피해로부터 해조류를 보호해 주는 몇 가지 기작이 밝혀진 바 있는데, 어린시기의 갈조류 다시마는 청색광에 의한 광재활성화 능력을 함유한 것으로 보이고, 한국산 녹조 구멍갈파래와 홍조 도박류에서는 자외선을 강하게 차단하는 흡수물질이 형성됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 이러한 적응기능들이 해조류에서 보편적으로 나타나는 것인지에 대해서는 좀 더 연구가 필요하다. 해양생태계는 대기 중 CO$x_2$를 이용하여 1년에 약 100 Gt의 유기물질을 생산해내고, 인류가 소비하는 식품의 30%를 제공한다는 점에서 자외선에 의한 생물량의 감소는 해조류 뿐만 아니라 먹이망에 의해서 복잡한 연결구조를 지닌 생태계 전체의 붕괴를 야기할 수 있는 심각한 사안이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서, 자외선에 대한 피해를 연구 평가하여 전략을 세우고 이를 예측하는 예보시스템을 개발할 필요성이 절실히 부각된다.

참전복 사료의 해조류 및 spirulina 첨가 효과 (Effects of Supplemental Macroalgae and Spirulina in the Diets on Growth Performance in Juvenile Abalone(Haliotis discus hannai))

  • A 20-week growth trial was conducted in flow-through aquarium system to investigate the effects of supplemental macroalgae and spirulina in the diets on growth and body cmposition in juvenile abalone (Haliotis discus hannai). Four replicate groups of the abalone averaging 65mg were fed one of ten isonitrogenous (34%) and isolipidic (7.5%) diets containing 8.1% Ulva, 7.5% Undaria, 11% Laminara, 11% Sargassum, spirulina (5, 10 and 15%), or dried Undaria powder (10 and 20%). In addition, these formulated diets were compared with natural food(dried Undaria). Survival rate of abalone were not significantly affected by the different dietary macoralgae sources, spirulina or dried Undaria powder levels (P>0.05). Weight gain and soft body weight of abalone fed the diet containing Sargassum was significantly higher (P<0.05) than those of abalone fed the diets containing Laminaria, 20% dried Undaria powder and natural food. Survival rate, weight gain, soft body weight and shell length of abalone fed natural food were lowest (P<0.05) among all diet. Moisture, protein and lipid contents of soft body were not influenced by experimental diets except natural food. Lipid content of abalones fed natural food was significantly lower than those of abalone fed other diets (P<0.05). These data indicate that abalone can more efficiently utilize Sargassum than Ulva, Undaria, Laminaria or spirulina.

북극 스발바드 군도 스피츠베르겐섬 콩스피요르드에서의 다환 방향족 탄화수소화합물의 분포 특성 (Distribution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon at Kongsfjorden in Spitsbergen, Svalbard Islands)

  • In order to elucidate the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon concentration and its origin in arctic area, four arctic brown algae (Laminaria saccharina, L. digita, Alaria esculenta, Desmarestia aculeata), one marine invertebrate (Echinoidea) and sediments were collected from Kongsfjorden in Spitsbergen from the late July to early August, 2003. In case of macroalgae, the young blade part above growth point and the old stipes and blades beneath growth point were separated and analyzed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in an attempt to check the mechanism of uptake in macroalgae to accumulate PAH. There was no difference in PAH concentrations between sampling sites (Stations B and C), species, and blades beneath and above growth point. PAH concentrations in all samples collected in this study were relatively higher than those reported in other areas of arctic. Especially, station C, which is known as an unpolluted area, showed 10 times higher PAH concentration (8,765 ng/g) in sediment than station A (694 ng/g) around harbor. In addition high PAH concentration, station C had very higher proportion of methylated PAH to parent PAH in sediment than station A. Source analysis using PAH isomer pair ratios as indicators showed that Kongsfjorden area seemed to be relatively contaminated with PAH derived from direct petroleum input.
