This study focused on safety aspects surrounding energy consumption in the seawater desalination process in the Daesan Industrial Complex located on the West Sea coast. The safety index for energy consumption was evaluated under different salinities and temperatures of the incoming seawater. Temperature and salinity input data for the 1997-2018 period were obtained from the Marine Environment Information System, and the power required for reverse osmosis (RO) was applied to the program as per the data provided by the RO membrane manufacturer (Q-Plus v3.0). Notably, reasonable energy consumption guidelines were proposed during the design of the desalination facilities; in this regard, the desalination process required approximately 2.10-2.90 kWh/m3 electrical power. Moreover, the energy safety based on 95 % was estimated to be 2.80 kWh/m3 when the desalination facility was operated.
The aim of this paper is to grasp eutrophication aspects in Namhae coastal seas, statistically analyzing existing data for their surface seawater and bottom mud. A pollution level(ignition loess) of bottom mud, on the whole, trended to increase as moving the coastal sea around Mokpo-Wando toward the east(Gyeongnam Namhae coastal seas). Especially, the pollution level(ignition loss=10.5%) of bottom mud for the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung was similar to that(10.3%) for the coastal sea around Masan-Jinhae, whose coastal marine pollution was the severest in Namhae coastal seas. It indicates that large amounts of pollutant from aqualculture facilities have been, thus far, accumulated on the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung, considering there was no significant inflow of sewage and industrial wastewater into this coastal sea. A COD, T-N, and T-P level of surface seawater, on the whole trended to increase as moving the coastal sea around Mokpo-Wando toward the east(Gyeongnam Namhae coastal seas). A COD level appeared to be the second grade of coastal water quality over the entire year throughout all Namhae coastal seas A T-N level exceeded the third grade of coastal water quality throughout all Namhae coastal seas except the coastal sea around Mokpo-Wando. Especially, a T-N level exceeded as many as three and six times over the third grade of coastal water quality in the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung and Masan-Jinhae, respectively. A T-P level appeared to be the second grade of coastal water quality in the coastal sea around Mokpo-Wando and the third grade of coastal water quality in the coastal sea around Yosu-Narnhae and Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung, while it exceeded as many as two times over the third grade of coastal water quality. A degree of eutrophication of the surface seawater was 1.5 in the coastal sea around Mokpo-Wando and 11.9 In the coastal sea around Tongyeong-Keoje-Gosung, gradually increasing as moving toward the east(Gyeongnam Narnhae coastal seas). It sharply increased to 146.1 in the coastal sea around Masan-Jinhae. Because the degree of eutrophication throughout all Namhae coastal seas exceeded 1, a red tide organism could pose a possibility of proliferation at any place of Namhae coastal seas if other requirements were satisfied. It indicates that a red tide may move to another place once a red tide breaks out at a place of Namhae coastal seas.

Cause analysis of surface pitting crack on a waterjet impeller was conducted. The waterjet impeller was made from stainless steel duplex 2205, which is more resistant to corrosion and local corrosion than typical stainless steel 316L and 317L, and has high mechanical strength, making it a useful material in various marine structures and seawater desalination facilities. The measurements were taken by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and molecular ecological detection. The chemical composition of S was examined by SEM in the area of pitting corrosion. The dsrAB gene was detected on the sample of the pitting corrosion of the impeller through molecular ecological detection. Therefore, pitting corrosion on the surface of a waterjet impeller was caused by sulphite-reducing bacteria (SRB). To prevent the spread of SRB, management is required through high temperature treatments (over 65℃), pH management, or the insulation of a hull and waterjet.
The Philippines is abundant with rich natural resources such as water. Because of rapid urbanization in the country, most of the water bodies are polluted as a result of domestic, agricultural and industrial activities. The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) is the main government arm responsible for monitoring and inspection of affected water bodies. Only water bodies with at least four sampling events during dry and wet seasons were included in the assessment of water bodies that passed the DAO 90-34 water quality criteria. Water bodies were monitored for dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), and total dissolved solids (TDS), heavy metals, fecal coliform contamination and nitrates. High pollutant concentrations from domestic, agricultural, industrial and nonpoint sources were observed from monitoring events due to inadequate sewage services and treatment facilities in the country. The objective of this paper was to present and evaluate the quality of the water bodies in the Philippines.
Many large earthquakes have continuously been reported and resulted in significant human casualties and extensive damages to properties globally. The accident of Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan was caused by a mega-tsunami, which is a secondary effect associated with the Tohoku large earthquake (M=9.0, 2011. 3. 11.). Most earthquakes occur by reactivation of pre-existing active faults. Therefore, the importance of paleoseismological study have greatly been increased. The Korean peninsula has generally been considered to be a tectonically stable region compared with neighboring countries such as Japan and Taiwan, because it is located on the margin of the Eurasian intra-continental region. However, the recent earthquakes in Gyeongju and Pohang have brought considerable insecurity on earthquake hazard. In particular, this region should be secure against earthquake, because many nuclear facilties and large industrial facilities are located in this area. However, some large earthquakes have been reported in historic documents and also several active faults have been reported in southeast Korea. This study explains the evaluation methods of geological structures on active fault, fault damage zone, the relationship between earthquake and active fault, and respect distance. This study can contribute to selection of safe locations for nuclear facilities and to earthquake hazards and disaster prevention.

Recently, the transport quantity of goods between South and North Korea is rising rapidly by increasing of economical exchange between South and North Korea and growth of Gaeseoung industrial complex. In addition to a land transportation route, it is necessary to secure various logistics and transportation route for freight transportation between Incheon and Gaesung. In this paper, we investigated a construction of barge transportaion system between Incheon and Gaesung. The barge transportation system which has many merits such as a little initial investment and convenience of harbor loading/ unloading has been also used to transport freight widely in the EU and USA. Firstly, we investigated barge transport route, marine freight and barge fleet which consists of barge and pusher between Incheon and Gaesung. And next, we designed hull form and general arrangement of a barge and pusher based on shipping service condition, barge fleet, etc. Finally, a construction plans of barge transport system such as a operation of shipping service, berthing facilities, logistics center, intermodal transport are investigated.
In our society, the advanced, advanced, and information industries have continued to grow and now live in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. As the industry develops, the load of the users has also increased so much that it is deepened by the energy shortage phenomenon and the construction of additional energy facilities is required. Therefore, energy plant construction work is being actively carried out in the coastal area. In particular, it is common to build a plant in the ground by filling the coast with soil in other regions, reflecting the fact that Korea is lacking in the country when constructing power plants, gas and petrochemical plants. Current domestic grounding designs are designed or constructed to suit only the use of grounding resistors based on the electrical equipment design technical standards. However, in the case of a plant facility constructed in the untested buried soil, when the lightning current and the abnormal current are inputted, the facility operator or the user due to the elevation of the ground potential is seriously exposed to the risk of electric shock disaster. In this paper, we analyze the ground resistivity of the landfilled soil and use a computer program (CDEGS) based on KS C IEC 61936-1, We analyze the contact voltage and stratification voltage and propose a grounding design optimized for plant installation.
A Macroscopic combination of two or more distinct materials is commonly referred to as a "Composite Material", having been designed mechanically and chemically superior in function and characteristic than its individual constituent materials. Composite materials are used not only for aerospace and military, but also heavily used in boat/ship building and general composite industries which we are seeing increasingly more. Regardless of the various applications for composite materials, the industry is still limited and requires better fabrication technology and methodology in order to expand and grow. An example of this is that the majority of fabrication facilities nearby still use an antiquated wet lay-up process where fabrication still requires manual hand labor in a 3D environment impeding productivity of composite product design advancement. As an expert in the advanced composites field, I have developed fabrication skills with the use of machinery based on my past composite experience. In autumn 2011, the Korea government confirmed to fund my project. It is the development of a composite sanding machine. I began development of this semi-robotic prototype beginning in 2009. It has possibilities of replacing or augmenting the exhaustive and difficult jobs performed by human hands, such as sanding, grinding, blasting, and polishing in most often, very awkward conditions, and is also will boost productivity, improve surface quality, cut abrasive costs, eliminate vibration injuries, and protect workers from exposure to dust and airborne contamination. Ease of control and operation of the equipment in or outside of the sanding room is a key benefit to end-users. It will prove to be much more economical than normal robotics and minimize errors that commonly occur in factories. The key components and their technologies are a 360 degree rotational shoulder and a wrist that is controlled under PLC controller and joystick manual mode. Development on both of the key modules is complete and are now operational. The Korean government fund boosted my development and I expect to complete full scale development no later than 3rd quarter 2012. Even with the advantages of composite materials, there is still the need to repair or to maintain composite products with a higher level of technology. I have learned many composite repair skills on composite airframe since many composite fabrication skills including repair, requires training for non aerospace applications. The wind energy market is now requiring much larger blades in order to generate more electrical energy for wind farms. One single blade is commonly 50 meters or longer now. When a wind blade becomes damaged from external forces, on-site repair is required on the columns even under strong wind and freezing temperature conditions. In order to correctly obtain polymerization, the repair must be performed on the damaged area within a very limited time. The use of pre-impregnated glass fabric and heating silicone pad and a hot bonder acting precise heating control are surely required.
In order to deal with the increase of container cargo traffic volume more effectively, the ministry of maritime affairs & fisheries has a long-term plan to develop Gaduk Island. According to the plan, the New Port will handle 4,600,00TEUs annually. The completion of the project will enable the port of Busan to perform as a hub port in the Asia Pacific era of the year 2000 with sufficient port facilities, and this will lead to a new era of oceanic Korea. With the advent of the Pacific Rim Era of the year 2000, Busan metropolis has set a strategic development plan to establish the area as the center of logistics in the noreast Asian region as well as to become the stronghold of economic activity in Korea's southeast region. To this end, industries that will open the doors to a marine era and a new industrial complex focused on logistics are planned in the West Busan area where Gimhae International Airport and the Busan New Port meet. This paper aims to find out the functional relation and complement between the Busan New Port Distri-Park handing container cargo traffic volume and the West Busan Logistics Pa가 handling an air cargo and railroad goods. Especially, paper aims to suggest the West Busan Logistics Park as the efficient management of the container cargo traffic volume due to the Development Plan of the Busan New Port.

Domestic laws such as Korea Marine Pollution Prevention Law (KMPPL) which has been mae and amended according to the conclusions and amendments of various international conventions for the prevention a marine pollution such as MARPOL 73/78 were reviewed and compared with the major contents of the relevant international conventions. Alternative measures for legislating new laws or amending existing laws such as KMPPL for the acceptance of major contents of existing international conventions were proposed. Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78 into which the regulations for the prevention of air pollution from ship have been adopted has been recently accepted in KMPPL which should be applied to ships which are the moving sources of air pollution at sea rather tlnn in Korea Air Environment Conservation Law which should be applied to automobiles and industrial installations in land. The major contents of LC 72/95 have been accepted in KMPPL However, a few of substances requiring special care in Annex II of 72LC, a few of items in characteristics and composition for the matter in relation to criteria governing the issue of permits for the dumping of matter at sea in Annex III of 72LC, and a few of items in wastes or other matter that may be considered for dumping in Annex I of 96 Protocol have not been accepted in KMPPL yet. The major contents of OPRC 90 have been accepted in KMPPL. However, oil pollution emergency plans for sea ports and oil handling facilities, and national contingency plan for preparedness and response have not been accepted in KMPPL yet. The waste oil related articles if Basel Convention, which shall regulate and prohibit transboundary movement of hazardous waste, should be accepted in KMPPL in order to prevent the transfer if scrap-purpose tanker ships containing oil/water mixtures and chemicals remained on beard from advanced countries to developing and/or underdeveloped countries. International Convention for the Control if Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on the Ships should be accepted in KMPPL rather tlnn in Korea Noxious Chemicals Management Law. International Convention for Ship's Ballast Water/Sediment Management should be accepted in KMPPL or by a new law in order to prevent domestic marine ecosystem and costal environment from the invasion of harmful exotic species through the discharge of ship's ballast water.
