  • A sunken ship often involves an oil spill. This paper was carried out to minimize environmental and cost damages stemming from oil spil of sunken shipl. Through the analysis of both the standards of the oil tank system and installation, we have identified potential oil spill sites and proposed a remedy of prevention. The result of study, the air pipes of the oil tank are a vulnerable point for oil spill. Also, the remote control devices of emergency shut-off valve have poor accessibility at abandon ship, making it difficult to shut off the emergency shut-off valve. Thus, we propose the addition of a remote quick closing valve in the air pipe and the building of a central control system.

  • In this study, dynamic characteristics of water hammer pressure in water supply piping system with water hammer arrester has been investigated experimentally to characterize the transient pressure of water hammer in high rise building. Experiments were conducted to verify the absorption effects by water hammer arresters with 3 different gas volumes of water hammer pressure generated by sudden valve closure. As the results, it has been found that zoning and sizing of pipe diameter for suitable flow velocity and water hammer arresters with effective pressure absorption capacity have to be installed to protect water hammer problems in building water supply piping system.

  • A wind power plant is one of the competitive and effective energy among the regulated 13 renewable energies, especially for the seashore and island. This study is focused on the possibility of wind power plant as a on-site electric power supply system for the common residential building in Youngdo, Busan. The following show the results of this study. 26 apartments' monthly electric power consumptions are surveyed and monthly variations are stable comparing to the metropolitan. With the wind speed measured in Youngdo island and wind power plant efficiency data, the simulation is conducted and the result shows that 35 wind power units are satisfied with full electric power load for all the common residential buildings in Youngdo island.

  • This study is about a hydrogen mitigation system in a containment building like an offshore or a nuclear plant. A hydrogen explosion is possibly happened after condensation of steam if hydrogen releases with steam in a containment buildings. Passive autocatalytic recombiner is the one of the measures, but the performance of this equipment is not sure because the distribution of hydrogen is very irregular and is not predicted correctly. This study proposes a new approach for improving the hydrogen removing performance with hydrogen-guiding property. The steam is simulated and analysed. The results show that the shallow air containment reduced over 55% of the released hydrogen and the deep air containment type reduces over 80% of released hydrogen.

  • Concrete structures in the marine environment often deteriorate in the early stage of their service life because of contact with various aggressive conditions. In recent years, the researches on the concrete in the marine environment have been carried out to increase their service life. In this experimental study, the concrete specimens were prepared with various adding contents of inorganic antifouling agent$(0\~3.0wt\%)$ composed of some fluosilicate solution. For evaluation of the properties of concretes containing inorganic antifouling agent, various tests such as setting time, slump loss, compressive strength, water absorption rate, fleering and thawing resistance and SEM of concrete, were conducted. As the results, physical and chemical properties of concretes were improved with an adding of inorganic antifouling agent. From the results of various tests, the optimal adding contents of antifouling agent was $1.0wt\%$.

  • The Research is underway to utilize heavyweight concrete for various applications. One of them is to use heavy concrete as a marine concrete such as a breakwater to resist wave. Marine concrete is often complex in shape and requires high fluidity. When the heavyweight concrete is high fluidity, there is a high risk of segregation due to the high density of the coarse aggregate. Therefore, we evaluate the fluidity of heavyweight concrete using heavy fine aggregate. As a result of the fluidity evaluation of the heavyweight concrete, the fluidity of the heavy fine aggregate was similar to that of ordinary concrete. Therefore, it is considered that the use of heavy fine aggregate in the development of high fluidity heavyweight concrete will be one of the methods.

  • In the case of concrete structures which have been recently exposed to the marine environment, durability is greatly reduced by the freezing-thawing action. When it is used by appropriately replacing the ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) that is a industrial by-product, the concrete structure of marine environment is known to have a durability to freezing-thawing resistance. In this experiment, micropore in accordance with a replacement ratio of GGBS was confirmed to show different results respectively. The freeze-thaw resistance was showed different aspects respectively because it is different the amount of water in the pore due to the difference of micropore. Therefore, in this study, the freezing-thawing resistance of sea water by variation of micropores of slag concrete had been evaluated.

  • Considering the actual marine environment construction, this paper monitors the mechanical properties (Flexural, Compressive strength) by exposing alumina cement to seawater. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the strength decreases by about -25% when curing in seawater, but the target strength of the product is met, so it is believed that exposure to the actual marine environment will not be significantly affected.

  • In this study, grout was poured into seawater to confirm the effect of similar marine environment and underwater erosion on the mechanical performance of domestically produced high-performance grout and compared with the existing strength. As a result of the compressive strength measurement, the specimen that simultaneously performed underwater drilling and seawater curing showed slow initial strength expression in both H1 and H2, and from the 7th day, it was confirmed to be within 2% of the existing intensity. It is believed that both grout were caused by disturbance with water during underwater drilling, and the same strength was subsequently shown as the existing strength.

  • Marine environment is subject serious destruction because of frequent accidents during exploration of marine resources and overseas transport. Also, as many industrial enterprises discharge high volume of wastes and contamination, marine pollution has become a serious threat to people (especially in China). China is quickly becoming a world economic leader of the 21st century. Rapid industrialization and social changes have raised the standard of living of millions of the Chinese, mainly in the areas of East and South East coast. The process of industrialization, however, is often followed by deterioration of the marine environment and rarely turned around until a country has increased its standard of living. Solving these array of problems will take decades and currently the government is addressing minor specific issues only. Fortunately, the Chinese government has enacted a number of marine pollution control laws. On 25 December 1999, the 13th Session of the Ninth Standing Commettee of the National People's Congress passed the amended the Marine Environment Protection Law of the People's Republic of China. This Law establishes rights and responsibilities of the relevant departments concerning marine environment management and provides for two new chapters on "Marine Environment Supervision" and "Marine Ecological Protection", along with "Supervision of Pollution Prevention for Marine Construction Projects", "Marine Ecological Protection" and "Marine Environment Pollution Prevention for Marine Construction Projects". Also, the Law was amended with provisions for integrated pollution discharge control system and oil spillage emergency response plan and enhanced legal responsibilities. Chinese government recognizes that international and national experience can be useful for China to prevent further ecological degradation of the marine environment.
