Selection of Architect Engineering Concept for Barge Mounted SMR Using Systems Engineering Approach

  • The trade-off studies in the concept development stage to assess the relative goodness of alternative systems concepts for AE (architect engineering) design for the Barge Mounted SMR (BMSMR) is introduced. With respect to design margin, system performance, schedule and risk, the design selection is cond ucted using the following characteristics; barge mobility, system safety under the natural disaster (seismic), power output, interfacing with the other system, and the additional supporting functions as desalination. There are three findings that should be remedied; deficiencies in the assumed characteristics of the system being modeled, deficiencies in the test model, and excessively stringent system requirements. This study is performed using systems engineering approach with trade off matrix method. In order to execute this work, concept development stage is divided into three (3) phases as NA (needs analysis), CE (concept exploration), and CD (concept definition).

  • 본 논문의 주목적은 불연속 또는 연속계 구조물의 시스템 신뢰성해석(system reliability analysis)을 위한 보다 일반적인 방법을 소개하는데 있다. 본 논문에서는, 확대하중증분법(extended incremental load method)이라고 불리우는데, 지금까지의 신뢰성 해석법 중 종래의 하중증분법이 갖는 단점을 보완하고, 여러 형태의 하중이 작용하는 구조물에 대해, 부재의 파괴후 거동(post-ultimate behaviour)을 다른 방법보다 더 실제적으로 고려할 수 있는 장점을 갖도록 개발한 것이다. 본 방법의 또 하나의 장점은 구조설계시 사용하는 강도공식(strength formula) 을 시스템 신뢰성 해석에서 직접 이용할 수 있다는 점이다. 이 방법은 부유식 해양구조물 같은 연속계 구조물의 시스템 신뢰성 해석을 위해 개발되었는데, 이 논문에서는 실제 구조물은 다루지 않고, 방법의 정당성과 아울러 수정된 안전여유식의 적용가능성을 보여주는 것에 중점을 두었다. 본 논문의 부유식 해양구조물들에 적용한 결과는 후일 발표할 예정이다.

  • Because the penetrating cervical tracheoesophageal injury may be associated with significant morbidity and mortality, it is important to choose the optimal method of diagnosis and management in patient with tracheoesophageal injury. We obtained a satisfactory result from repair of tracheoesophageal injuries using cardiopulmonary bypass. If the bleeding from the unidentified deep injury and the spread of infection could be controlled, the repair using CPB might increase the margin of safety during operation in the similar cases.

  • In Korea, characterized in most cases by limited area or high earth resistivity, it is likely to design narrow distances between grounding conductors, with a view to keeping ground resistance and touch voltage below the safety margin values. A new grounding method is suggested, making use of double meshes, to lower touch voltage in a confined area, since it is difficult to lay the plugs under the ground with narrow gaps between them on a limited site. For the presentation of a new model, the suggested grounding system has been analyzed and studied in ground resistance, touch voltage and step voltage, using IEEE Std. 80 calculations and computer simulations.

  • Quest for reliability of hydraulic runners is a concern for all mature electricity producers. The fatigue damage caused by dynamics loads is frequently the root cause of runner failure. This paper presents the damage tolerance approach based on fracture mechanics as the method chosen by Alstom and Hydro-Qu$\acute{e}$bec to predict effects of damage on runner lifetime and consequently to be use as a design method. This is sustained by a research on fracture mechanics properties of runner materials and by recommendations on the strategy to define a safety margin for design. The acquired knowledge permits to identify potential improvement of the runner lifetime without significant cost increase, like being more specific on some chemical composition or heat treatment.

  • The orifice establishment which is improper does to change the entity differential pressure and occurs an error in flow measurement data. Because of this, the thermal power of nuclear power plant could be evaluated excessively and the safety margin could be decreased. In this paper, characters of orifice which is established abnormally was investigated. Specially, the orifice plate which is established in opposition case was modeled and analyzed. Finally, 14.4% was lowly measured differential pressure, when being established in the resultant opposition. And this result with EPRI and NRC experiences was similar.

  • The LBB behavior and the crack opening displacement after a crack penetrated wall thickness of statically indeterminate piping system were investigated in this study, compared with statically determinate piping system. The reduction of ultimate strength caused by a crack was relatively small in the statically indeterminate piping system. The statically indeterminate piping system has more safety margin for LBB behavior than the statically determinate piping system. The crack opening displacement could be evaluated by using the plastic rotation angle proposed to evaluate the crack opening displacement after crack penetration in pipe with a non-penetrating crack.

  • URANUS (Ubiquitous, Robust, Accident-forgiving, Non-proliferating, Ultra-lasting and Sustainer) has been developed with 35MWe (100MWth) operating without primary coolant pump, capitalizing on natural circulation capability of lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) for long-life small and robust power units. To ensure the structural integrity, the large safety margin against Safe Shutdown Earthquake, 0.3g, and furthermore the cost effectiveness for URANUS, three-dimensional seismic base isolation design has been developed. The analytical model has been developed and seismic time history analyses have been carried out. The advantage for using three-dimensional seismic base isolation for URANUS has been discussed.

  • This paper presents a summary of the input data, requirements and notch prediction analysis for sinusoidal excitation test of a satellite. In the notch prediction analysis, the loads at excitation points and internal loads at the important locations on satellite structure were obtained. After checking of limit loads and margin of safety for each location, the notched sinusoidal test inputs were generated using the results of the notch prediction analysis.

  • Acoustic test was performed to verify the ability of KSLV-I PLF acoustic protection system (Acoustic blanket) to reduce the acoustic load. The test results showed that the acoustic protection system has +3 dB safety margin compared with design requirement. This paper also illustrates the increase of insertion loss by the acoustic protection system by comparing that of the bare PLF structure.
