  • This paper presents a filtering method using neural networks to extract fundamental frequency components of the transient wave signals in power systems. Based on the ability of multilayer feedforward neural networks to approximate any continuous function, a neural networks mapping filter is proposed for the protective distance relaying systems to extract the effective components efficiently. A characteristic feature of this mapping filter is composed of the multilayer perceptron neural networks which are trained by using random signals and those are mapped to the DFT filtering computational structure by GDR(Generalized Delta Rule). The advantage of this approach is demonstrated by the random waves and the fault transient wave signals of EMTP(electromagnetic transients program) in power systems fault conditions. The proposed method is compared with the conventional method and the simulation results show the efficiency of the neural networks.

  • This paper presents a facial expression transformation algorithm and drawing rule generation algolithm for a portrait drawing robot which was developed for the '93 Taejeon EXPO. The developed algorithm was mainly focused on the robust automatic generation of robot programs with the consideration that the drawing robot should work without any limitation of the age, sex or race for the persons. In order to give more demonstratin effects, the facial expression change of the pictured person was performed.

  • In this study, a constitutive model which can describe the anisotropic and plastic behaviors of natural cohesive soils, was developed based on anisotropic bounding surface theory. The model was fomulated by the concepts of the improved anisotropic bounding surface function, nonassociated flow rule with new plastic potential function, anisotropic hardening rule, and new mapping rule governing the plastic behavior inside bounding sutraface. Comparing with the results of Ku consolidation and triaxial shearing tests, the predictions by the proposed model agree quite well with real soil responses.

  • This paper presents a method for propagating fuzzy concepts through fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rules. A fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rule consists of a set of fuzzy condition and conclusion pairs. These pairs assumed to contain informations about a fuzzy mapping from fuzzy concepts of condition parts to the fuzzy concepts of conclusion parts. Conventionally, vectors are used to define fuzzy concepts and matrices are used to define a fuzzy mapping between fuzzy conditions and conclusions. This approach, however, does not satisfy the existing condition property, i.e., when a fuzzy input data exactly matches to a fuzzy condition, fuzzy output data should be mapped to a corresponding fuzzy conclusion. Alternatively, we propose a parameterized approach in which every fuzzy concept is described by a parameterized standard function, including fuzzy conditions and fuzzy conclusions. A fuzzy IF-THEN-ELSE rule takes the parameterized fuzzy concept as an input, and produces a standard function with new parameters as an output. New parameters are determined by a parameterwise interpolation. That is, each output parameters are determined by interpolating parameters of the same class contained in fuzzy conclusions. Obviously, the proposed scheme always satisfies the existing condition property.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient symbol mapping method based on LLR (log-likelihood ratio) statistic for HARQ employing CoRe (constellation rearrangement) with 64QAM. The signal constellations for 64QAM with limited number of retransmissions are selected by the proposed mapping rule. Then we determine the transmission order of selected constellations. The proposed scheme reduces the performance deviation between transmit symbols so as to improve the system performance. Through simulation results, the proposed and existing CoRe mapping methods are compared with respect to error rate and throughput in MIMO-OFDM system over fading channel and we confirm the applicability of the proposed scheme in practical wireless communications environment.

  • HTML5, new standard for web language, is being standardized corresponding to the development of web. Since several new semantic elements have been added into HTML5 standard, current Web Environment is becoming more and more semantic. In order to provide better user experience by using information extraction from HTML5 page, new HTML5 Elements should be mapped to a corresponding Ontology. In this research, we will focus on new semantic elements to build Ontology from HTML5 document. For this purpose, we will propose a methodology of Schema level mapping rule and instance mapping rule.

  • Binary translation is a restructuring process in order to execute a program targeting a specific device on the other devices. In binary translation, it is very important to generate the translation rules between two devices. There are two methods for generating the translation rules, direct and indirect mapping. The direct mapping is the method for performance, while the indirect mapping is the method for retargetability. This paper suggests a binary translation method based on the direct mapping for the embedded systems. Because, however, the retargetability is also important requirement, we suggest the direct mapping based binary translation with considering the retargetability. In addition, we implement an automatic generation tool for translation rules to prove our concept. Through this method, we can generate the translation rules with considering the performance as well as the retargetability. Furthermore, we can reduce costs for the binary translation.

  • A cost effective three-dimensional color gamut mapping architecture is described. The conventional three-dimensional reduced resolution look-up table is considered and the concept of three-dimensional reduced resolution difference look-up table is introduced for cost effective and real-time color gamut mapping. The overall architecture uses one-dimensional memory decomposition of three-dimensional gamut mapping look-up table, three-dimensional interpolation and simple addition operation for generating the final gamut mapped colors. The required computational cost is greatly reduced by look-up table resolution adjustment and further reduced by the gamut mapping rule modification. The proposed architecture greatly reduces the required memory size and hardware complexity compared to the conventional method and it is suitable for real-time applications. The proposed hardware is suitable for FPGA and ASIC implementation and could be applied to the real-time display quality enhancement purposes.

  • This study presents a rule-based urban image classification method for time series analysis of changes in the vicinity of Asan-si and Cheonan-si in Chungcheongnam-do, using Landsat satellite images (1991-2006). The area has been highly developed through the relocation of industrial facilities, land development, construction of a high-speed railroad, and an extension of the subway. To determine the yearly changing pattern of the urban area, eleven classes were made depending on the trend of development. An algorithm was generalized for the rules to be applied as an unsupervised classification, without the need of training area. The analysis results show that the urban zone of the research area has increased by about 1.53 times, and each correlation graph confirmed the distribution of the Built Up Index (BUI) values for each class. To evaluate the rule-based classification, coverage and accuracy were assessed. When Optimal allowable factor=0.36, the coverage of the rule was 98.4%, and for the test using ground data from 1991 to 2006, overall accuracy was 99.49%. It was confirmed that the method suggested to determine the maximum allowable factor correlates to the accuracy test results using ground data. Among the multiple images, available data was used as best as possible and classification accuracy could be improved since optimal classification to suit objectives was possible. The rule-based urban image classification method is expected to be applied to time series image analyses such as thematic mapping for urban development, urban development, and monitoring of environmental changes.
