  • The purposes of this paper are to classify the spatial distribution types of precipitation by making daily isohyetal maps based on the winter daily precipitation and to analyse both the distributional characteristics of precipitation during the winter in South Korea and the synoptic characteristics related to them. Also, the correspondence between the spatial distribution types of precipitation and the synoptic characteristics occuring among them is examined with regards to pressure patterns and then precipitation distribution types. In addition, the characteristics of the pressure fields and temperature fields in 850hPa, 700hPa, and 500hPa level were analysed to find out the difference between the Ullung-do type and the Ullung-do${\cdot}$Honam type, which have similar characteristics on the surface weather map. As a result, the Ullung-do area showed a high frequency of occurrence regardless of precipitation classes, the East Coast area revealed a higher frequency of occurrence in over the 5mm section, while the Honam area had high frequency of occurrence in the 1~5mm section. There are twelve distribution types of precipitation during the winter. These distribution types show clear changes according to the season. The difference in precipitation distribution between the Ullung-do type and the Ullung-do${\cdot}$Honam type has a close relationship with the aspect of the upper cold air advection rather than the direction and the speed of the wind.

  • As a result of trying the various manufacturing methods considering the reality of manpower and equipments with this manual, the following standardized procedures and contents can be suggested. (1) Since tools presenting Rock-Drill data must formalize the order of explanation although explainers are different, it will be valid that it is configured by existing power point method rather than by web document type. Composition of contents are selected on the basis of defence card and survey and then 8 items including initial screen, peripheral conditions, mobilization route, general conditions, use and structure by floor, department of vehicle consideration in activities and end screen are included. (2) Making methods and cautions of data included and used in power point are as follows ; - It was most effective that objects of fire fighting and location of neighboring fire fighting water were expressed by electronic map and drawing of inner building was made by scanning it after paining general architecture drawing(plan by each floor) rather than using drawing tools of EXCEL program or CAD drawing. And it was helpful to simplify contents of architecture drawing to wall, stairs and gate in understanding them. - Photographing of video data should be taken to show available fire fighting facilities in fire, use of planned space and the whole inner structure of each floor from the inside of fire fighting buildings and to display play time between 10 sec. and 1 min, for obstacles to distance from adjacent buildings or passage of special vehicles and fire fighting water from the outside of the building. - File format of video data taken in this way is most suitable to use wmv(window media video) or asf(advanced streaming format) type in consideration of time required for export, screen quality, file capacity and play type in Rock-Drill through network. - Still screen(photo) is more effective to express the department of fire fighting vehicles or other equipments than using video. (3) In configuration work of power point, hyper link was used most and configured to see any part at any situation like web document and then uniformity of presentation order of power point was complemented. (4) In case of sales facilities with the area of $35.557m^2$, the time of 22 hours and 30 minutes for five days was taken with five persons. Therefore, when eight-hour works a day were calculated, the whole process of video work for Rock-Drill can be finished with three day works.

  • Unlike the previous studies which have focused on 2-dimensional urban characteristics, this paper presents statistical models explaining urban heat island(UHI) effect by 3-dimensional urban morphologic information and addresses its policy implications. 3~dimensional informations of Columbus, Ohio arc captured from LiDAR data and building boundary informations are extracted from a building digital map, Finally NDV[ and temperature data are calculated by manipulating band 3, band 4, and thermal hand of LandSat images. Through complicated data processing, 6 independent variables(building surface area, building volume, height to width ratio, porosity, plan surface area) are introduced in simple and multiple linear regression models. The regression models are specified by Box-Tidwell method, finding the power to which the independent variable needs to raised to be in a linearity. Porosity, NDVI, and building surface area are carefully chosen as explanatory variables in the final multiple regression model, which explaining about 57% of the variability in temperatures. On reducing UHI, various implications of the results give guidelines to policy-making in open space, roof garden, and vertical garden management.

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Korea has worked toward environmental conservation and decision making since the Environmental Impact Statement of 1981. In order to implement the EIA process effectively, we have developed a system for and various methods of EIA. Among these methods, the Geographic Information System (GIS), which was introduced recently in Korea, can be used to integrate geographic and attribute data effectively. So GIS begins to increase the necessity of the application in EIA process. This study includes the integration method of the GIS and air dispersion model on the odor impact assessment of $NH_3$ emission in landfill sites. First, it computes surface values by grids using the Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Second, it presents predicted data considering topography and climate by grids. Third, it shows the overlaying analysis of the administrative map including population and odor predictive data. The results could systematically analyze impact areas, and assess residential impact by alternatives. Integration analysis of the air predictive model and GIS as a residential area assessment can support negotiations of public and proponent in EIA.

  • Calculating of matching cost is an important for efficient stereo matching. To investigate the performance of matching process, the concepts of the existing methods are introduced. Also we analyze the performance and merits of them. The simplest matching costs assume constant intensities at matching image locations. We consider matching cost functions which can be distinguished between pixel-based and window-based approaches. The Pixel-based approach includes absolute differences (AD) and sampling-intensitive absolute differences (BT). The window-based approach includes the sum of the absolute differences, the sum of squared differences, the normalized cross-correlation, zero-mean normalized cross-correlation, census transform, and the absolute differences census transform (AD-Census). We evaluate matching cost functions in terms of accuracy and time complexity. In terms of the accuracy, AD-Census method shows the lowest matching error ratio (the best solution). The ZNCC method shows the lowest matching error ratio in non-occlusion and all evaluation part. But it performs high matching error ratio at the discontinuities evaluation part due to blurring effect in the boundary. The pixel-based AD method shows a low complexity in terms of time complexity.

  • In the past, geographic data is constructed and serviced through independent formats of its own according to each GIS(Geographic Information System). Recently the provision of interoperability in GIS is important to efficiently apply the various geographic data between conventional GIS's. Whereupon OGC(Open GIS Consortium) proposed GML(Geography Markup Language) to offer the interoperability between heterogeneous GISs in distributed environments. The GML is an XML encoding for the transport and storage of geographic information, including both the spatial and non-spatial properties of geographic features. Also, the GML includes Web Map Server Implementation Specification to service the GML documents. Accordingly the prototype to provide the reciprocal interchange of geographic information between conventional GIS's and GML documents is widely studied. In this paper, we propose a mapping method of geographic in formation between spatial database and GML for the prototype to support the interoperability between heterogeneous geographic information. For this method, firstly the scheme of converting geographic in Formation of the conventional spatial database into the GML document according to the GML specification is explained, and secondly the scheme to transform geographic information of GML documents to geographic data of spatial database is showed. Consequently, the proposed method is applicable to the framework for integrated geographic information services based on Web by making an offer the interoperability between already built geographic information of conventional GIS's using a mapping method of geographic information between spatial database and GML.

  • Recently, through the services that use drones at fire sites to deliver on-site and road conditions into the situation room and life-saving activities or the deliveries of first aid outfits at the accident scenes that are inaccessible to humans, there are more and more cases of dealing with emergency situations. Therefore, by studying the service design using drones in the initial stage of response to fires in dense residential areas, this study was intended to reify the service design area of the response stage, including the dispatch of fire sites and the fire suppression. To do this, through literature researches, research directions were explored by examining the concept and process review of service design, and by analyzing the application cases using service design. In order examine the validity of this study, a one-on-one interview was conducted to identify the use and problems of drones among incumbent firefighters, and identified the applicability of drones to fire sites by targeting drone experts. Field research was conducted to identify the location and distance of road conditions, site conditions, and 119 safety centers, by making Yongsan-gu, the most vulnerable area to fire in Seoul, as a research sample. And, among the methodologies of service design, Persona and Customer Journey Map were prepared and Insight was derived, by using virtual scenarios for the experience values and behavior analyses of the interested parties. Through these processes, this researcher intended to present the fire-response service design and help establish the direction of service design in the initial stages of fire in Korea.

  • Cadastral spatial information closely related to ownership of people is potentially very valuable information. As 3D cadastre has been actively discussed to reflect realistic living territory and legal relationship in recent years, it is highly expected to be created added value before long using that information. However, in aspect of visualization that performs an important function for decision making by facilitating intuitive thinking about spatial information, systematic solution has not been suggested to visualize the cadastral spatial information on a map with existing 3D spatial information. For that reason, in this paper, visualization method was proposed to integrate the cadastral spatial information with the existing information effectively. Requirements for 3D cadastral spatial information system were drawn based on literature review, and then specific visualization method was established by constructing user scenarios. Research results of this paper are highly expected to be applied to the integration work with the existing 3D information on a spatial information open platform.

  • On the basis of the topographic maps in the 1910's and 1990's and the classification map of Landsat TM satellite image photographed on Sept 1, 1996, the spatial distribution and the current situation concerning tidal flats in Korea were studied by measuring the area with GIS Arc/Info system and examining the regional condition required to develop the tidal flats. The results are as follow; The tidal flat resources in Korea cover an area of about 3800 square meters, including the reclaimed one since the 1910's. And they are widely distributed in the west coast of South Jeonla, Kyunggi bay, Asan bay, the south coast of South Jeonla, Kunsan bay, Chunsoo bay, and the coast of South Kyungsang and Pusan when put in the order from bigger area. Given the area under the construction at present, more than 50% of the tidal flats are reclaimed ones. The tidal flats are being developed especially in Kyunggi and Asan bays because they perfectly measure up to the conditions required. For Kunsan bay, a remarkably good supply system of the alluvial sedimentary materials and a favorable coastline requirement for the coast of the South Jeonla also contribute to the development of the tidal flats. In the case study of Kunsan bay, it was shown that the shape of the tidal flat is making a continuous change and the area is getting bigger in terms of the multi-temporal change of the tidal flat development. However, while in the first half of the 20th century, the increasing rate of the area was considered to be rather high, it is considerably lowered almost to a standstill in the latter half of the century.
