  • The development and application of a high-resolution soil moisture mapping method using satellite imagery has been considered one of the major research themes in remote sensing. In this study, soil moisture mapping in the test area of Jeju Island was performed. The soil moisture was calculated with optical images using linearly adjusted Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) polarization images and incident angle. SAR Backscatter data, Analysis Ready Data (ARD) provided by Google Earth Engine (GEE), was used. In the soil moisture processing process, the optical image was applied to normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) by surface reflectance of KOMPSAT-3 satellite images and the land cover map of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). When the SAR image and the optical images are fused, the reliability of the soil moisture product can be improved. To validate the soil moisture mapping product, a comparative analysis was conducted with normalized difference water index (NDWI) products by the KOMPSAT-3 image and those of the Landsat-8 satellite. As a result, it was shown that the soil moisture map and NDWI of the study area were slightly negative correlated, whereas NDWI using the KOMPSAT-3 images and the Landsat-8 satellite showed a highly correlated trend. Finally, it will be possible to produce precise soil moisture using KOMPSAT optical images and KOMPSAT SAR images without other external remotely sensed images, if the soil moisture calculation algorithm used in this study is further developed for the KOMPSAT-5 image.

  • The goal of this study is to generate a landslide susceptibility map using GIS(geographic information system) based method. A simple and efficient algorithm is proposed to generate a landslide susceptibility map from DEM(digital elevation model) and existing maps. The categories of controlling factors for landslides, aspect of slope, soil, topographical index, landuse, vegetation are defined, because those factors are said to have relevance to landslide and are easy to obtain theirs sources. The weight value for landslide susceptibility is calculated from the density of the area of landslide blocks in each class. Finally, a map of susceptibility zones is produced using the weight value of all controlling factors, and then each susceptibility zone is evaluated by comparing with the distribution of each controlling factor class.

  • This study was conducted to estimate forest site productivity and productive areas of Quercus acutissima and Quercus mongolica using environmental factors including climatic variables. Using the data set from digital forest site map and forest climatic map, a total of 42 environmental variables were regressed on site index for developing the best site index equations for Quercus acutissima and Quercus mongolica. Five to six environmental factors by species were selected as independent variables in the best site index equations. For the site index equations, three evaluation statistics (i.e., mean difference, standard deviation of difference, and standard error of difference) were applied to the test data set for the validation of the results, The site index equations fitted well to the test data set with relatively low bias and variation. As a result, it was concluded that the site index equations by species were well capable of estimating site quality. Finally, based on the site index equations, the productive areas by species were estimated by applying GIS technique to the digital forest maps. In addition, the distribution of productive areas by species was illustrated.

  • We named the system Visual Path Map which visualizes the distribution of clusters according to characteristics and entire process about exercise prescription, and we purpose to visualize a process according to exercise prescription. Visual Path Map visualizes the distribution of clusters according to characteristics, current and object distribution, and changed distribution for prescription. So it visualizes paths from current distribution to object distribution according to prescription. We used SOM in order to express properties along subjects in Visual Path map, and visualized distribution of clusters about physical characteristics, body mass index, and age information of 1,500 ordinary people. Also we visualize practical exercise prescription according to real data of expert of exercise prescription.

  • This study was conducted to predict the changes of yearly productive area distribution for Quercus mongolica under climate change scenarios. For this, site index equations by ecoprovinces were first developed using environmental factors. Using the large data set from both a digital forest site map and a climatic map, a total of 48 environmental factors including 19 climatic variables were regressed on site index to develop site index equations. Two climate change scenarios, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5, were then applied to the developed site index equations and the distribution of productive areas for Quercus mongolica were predicted from 2020 to 2100 years in 10-year intervals. The results from this study show that the distribution of productive areas for Quercus mongolica generally decreases as time passes. It was also found that the productive area distribution of Quercus mongolica is different over time under two climate change scenarios. The RCP 8.5 which is more extreme climate change scenario showed much more decreased distribution of productive areas than the RCP 4.5. It is expected that the study results on the amount and distribution of productive areas over time for Quercus mongolica under climate change scenarios could provide valuable information necessary for the policies of suitable species on a site.

  • Mobile clients like a PDA need a cache and a spatial index to search and access map data efficiently. When a server transmits spatial objects to a mobile client which has a low storage capacity, some of them can be duplicated in a cache of the mobile client. Moreover, the cost for strong added data in the cache and reconfiguring spatial index is very high in the mobile client with low computing power. The scheme for processing duplicated objects and disturbing tasks of the mobile client which has low computing power is needed. In this paper, we classfy the method for strorng duplicated objects and present the scheme for the both caching objects and reconfiguring a spatial index of cached objects using the clipping technique. We propose the caching system based on an agent in order to distribute the overhead of a mobile client as well as to provide efficiently map services. We design and implement it, and evaluate the performance.

  • In this study, the periodic and simplified update and production way of the ECVAM (Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map) was presented through the classification of environmental values using KOMPSAT-3A satellite imagery and land cover map. ECVAM is a map that evaluates the environmental value of the country in five stages based on 62 legal evaluation items and 8 environmental and ecological evaluation items, and is provided on two scales: 1:25000 and 1:5000. However, the 1:5000 scale environmental assessment map is being produced and serviced with a slow renewal cycle of one year due to various constraints such as the absence of reference materials and different production years. Therefore, in this study, one of the deep learning techniques, KOMPSAT-3A satellite image, SI (Spectral Indices), and land cover map were used to conduct this study to confirm the possibility of establishing an environmental assessment map. As a result, the accuracy was calculated to be 87.25% and 85.88%, respectively. Through the results of the study, it was possible to confirm the possibility of constructing an environmental assessment map using satellite imagery, optical index, and land cover classification.

  • Until now, many indexing methods that can reduce update cost have been proposed for managing massive moving objects. Because indexing methods for moving objects have to be updated periodically for managing moving objects that change their location data frequently. However these kinds indexing methods occur big load that exceed system capacity when the number of moving objects increase dramatically. In this paper, we propose the update frequency reducing method to combine MapReduce and existing indices. We use the update request grouping method for each moving object by using MapReduce. We decide to update by comparing the latest data and the oldest data in grouping data. We reduce update frequency by updating the latest data only. When update is delayed, for the data should not be lost and updated periodically, we store the data in a certain period of time in the hash table that keep previous update data. By the performance evaluation, we can prove that the proposed method reduces the update frequency by comparison with methods that are not applied the proposed method.

  • Recently, the research of the analysis of the crime spatial is increased by using the computer information technology and GIS (Geometric Information System) in order to prevent the urban crime so as to increase the urbanization rate. In this paper, a probability map formed by the raster is organized by the quantification of crime risk per the cell using the region property of the urban spatial information in the static environment. Also, a map of the risk probability is constructed based on the relative risk by the region property, the relative risk by the facility, the relative risk by the woody plant and the river, and so on. And, this integrated risk probability map is calculated by averaging the individual cell risk applied to the climatic influence and the seasonal factor. And, a probability map of the overall risk is generated by the interpretation key of the crime occurrence relative risk index, and so, this information is applied to the probability map quantifying the occurrence crime pattern. And so, in this paper, a methodology of the modeling and the simulation that this crime risk probability map is modified according to the passage of time are proposed.
