  • In manufacturing processes, various and suitable pulse shapes are required for the purpose of material processing. In order to make various pulse shapes with variable pulse length and high duty cycle, We have fabricated the power supply consisting 6 SCRs and the Pulse Forming Network(PFN) with the precise delay time control. So our control system has three switching circuits, 3 mesh PFN, and simmer circuit. In addition, we have designed and fabricated the PIC one-chip microprocessor(16F877) to control the delay time of sequential switching.

Investigating the Au-Cu thick layers Electrodeposition Rate with Pulsed Current by Optimization of the Operation Condition

  • The impact of effective parameters on the electrodeposition rate optimization of Au-Cu alloy at high thicknesses on the silver substrate was investigated in the present study. After ensuring the formation of gold alloy deposits with the desired and standard percentage of gold with the cartage of 18K and other standard karats that should be observed in the manufacturing of the gold and jewelry artifacts, comparing the rate of gold-copper deposition by direct and pulsed current was done. The rate of deposition with pulse current was significantly higher than direct current. In this process, the duty cycle parameter was effectively optimized by the "one factor at a time" method to achieve maximum deposition rate. Particular parameters in this work were direct and pulse current densities, bath temperature, concentration of gold and cyanide ions in electrolyte, pH, agitation and wetting agent additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface chemical analysis system (EDS) were used to study the effect of deposition on the cross-sections of the formed layers. The results revealed that the Au-Cu alloy layer formed with concentrations of 6gr·L-1 Au, 55gr·L-1 Cu, 24 gr·L-1 KCN and 1 ml·L-1 Lauryl dimethyl amine oxide (LDAO) in the 0.6 mA·cm-2 average current density and 30% duty cycle, had 0.841 ㎛·min-1 Which was the highest deposition rate. The use of electrodeposition of pure and alloy gold thick layers as a production method can reduce the use of gold metal in the production of hallow gold artifacts, create sophisticated and unique models, and diversify production by maintaining standard karats, hardness, thickness and mechanical strength. This will not only make the process economical, it will also provide significant added value to the gold artifacts. By pulsating of currents and increasing the duty cycle means reducing the pulse off-time, and if the pulse off-time becomes too short, the electric double layer would not have sufficient growth time, and its thickness decreases. These results show the effect of pulsed current on increasing the electrodeposition rate of Au-Cu alloy confirming the previous studies on the effect of pulsed current on increasing the deposition rate of Au-Cu alloy.

An Application Method and Effect Analysis of the DBR(Drum-Buffer-Rope) Method Under the Re-entrant Process (재투입공정 하에서 DBR 기법 적용 방안 및 효과분석)

  • Many researchers have recommended that DBR scheduling would be an efficient method to maintain the balance of their workload among many processes in the general flow shop. However, as product variety has increased in recent years, the process has become more complex and requires the re-entrance of raw materials and work in process. The re-entrant line has known for the complex manufacturing process that raw materials are repeatedly processed on the same machine. This study reviews the applicability of DBR against the re-entrant manufacturing line due to the distinguishing characteristics and the higher complexity caused by multiple visits of a job into the identical process. In order to apply the DBR method to the re-entrant process, the main idea is to reconstruct re-entrant process into a virtual flow process(loop) that has a single bottleneck. This study discusses the following two questions. First, DBR is also superior to traditional scheduling methods against re-entrant manufacturing line. And how we structure and detect the system bottleneck (or sub-bottleneck) through drum-buffer-rope concepts. To answer the above questions, we experimented and analyzed the effects of the applicability of DBR under the general re-entrant process model(TRC, Technology Research Center). As a result, we have identified a balance between loops for cycle time and work in process.

A study on the improvement of work flow and productivity in complex manufacturing line by employing the effective process control methods (복잡한 생산라인에서 효율적 공정관리 기법 도입에 따른 공정흐름 및 생산성 개선 연구)

  • Due to the change from small volume production to small quantity batch production systems, individual companies have been attempting to produce a wide range of operating strategies, maximize their productivity, and minimize their WIP level by operating with the proper cycle time to defend their market share. In particular, using a complex workflow and process sequence in the manufacturing line has some drawbacks when it comes to designing the production strategy by applying analytical models, such as mathematical models and queueing theory. For this purpose, this paper uses three heuristic algorithms to solve the job release problem at the bottleneck workstation, product mix problem in multi-purpose machine(s), and batch size and sequence in batch machine(s). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods, a simulation analysis was performed. The experimental results demonstrated that the combined application of the proposed methods showed positive effects on the reduction of the cycle time and WIP level, and improvement of the throughput.

The study on the construction of IWSDB for National Defense CALS (국방 CALS를 위한 IWSDB 구축에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to develop an approach to construct IWSDB for National Defense CALS. Along with the introduction of Korean version of CALS conception, it is essential to analyze the national defense system with a new information technology for the construction of IWSDB. A long-tenn goal of CALS is to construct fully Integrated Data Environment (IDE) and establish IWSDB for the application of CALS conception to the life cycle management of weapon system. IWSDB is a set of databases that contain digital data. It supports common interface of data objects and databases throughout the life cycle management of weapon system, including design, engineering, analysis, manufacturing, operation, and logistics. etc. The goal of this study is threefold. First, we propose a right direction for the establishment of Integrated Data Environment. For the integrated database technology, we use the five schema architecture and the distributed object oriented technology that will lead to the "share of data." Second, we present the most effective IWSDB architecture for defense CALS, which will provide the efficient data sharing by business process modeling. Third, we suggest that IWSDB should be constructed based on the process which is related to the acquisition and logistics of weapon system for the national defense, and at the same time it should be implemented with GITIS for government agencies and CITIS for the industries in order to obtain the efficient data sharing.

Optimal Switching Frequency in Limited-Cycle with Multiple Periods

  • Due to the customer needs of reducing cost and delivery date shorting, prompt change in the production plan became more important. In the multi period system (For instance, production line.) where target processing time exists, production, idle and delay risks occur repeatedly for multiple periods. In such situations, delay of one process may influence the delivery date of an entire process. In this paper, we discuss the minimum expected cost of the case mentioned above, where the risk depends on the previous situation and occurs repeatedly for multiple periods. This paper considers the optimal switching frequency to minimize the total expected cost of the production process. In this paper, first, the optimal switching frequency model is proposed. Next, the mathematic formulation of the total expectation is presented. Finally, the policy of optimal switching frequency is investigated by numerical experiments.

  • Increased productivity and cost reduction have emerged as the main goals of the industry due to the development of the machinery industry, and mechanical materials with excellent properties with the development of the machine tool industry are widely used in machine parts or structures. In addition, the cutting process of production plays a pivotal role in the production technology. Studies on cutting have involved a lot of research on the material, the cutting tool, the processing conditions, and numerical analysis. Due to the development of the computer through numerical analysis, cutting conditions, the assessment of cutting performance, and cutting quality could be predicted. This research uses the creation of the material model and AdvantEdge Production module for the NC code analysis. To improve the productivity, this research employs the optimization method to reduce cutting time.

  • The development of new materials that are light-weight, yet high in strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. The fatigue crack growth rate of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. And Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

  • In order to process more complicated and higher-precision parts, generally, an additional axis for a machine tool is needed which was an approach to minimize the cost of tool modification. A table with a rotary reducer that can rotate through the axis of the gear system was employed to a machine tool to achieve the purpose of adding an extra motion axis. In general, the motion of the rotary reducer is driven by a worm/wheel or helical gear system, which is different from the hypoid helical gear structure that used in this research. Reliability of guarantee of high accurancy throughout the whole life cycle is on of the critical factors to evaluate a rotary reducer in this field. In this paper, in order to evaluate life-time of rotary reducer, a low-cost accelerated life test was developed to satisfy the demands of clients.

Numerical Analysis on Flow Uniformity According to Area Ratio and Diffuser Angle in an SCR Reactor of a 500 PS-Class Ship (500 PS급 선박 SCR 반응기에서 디퓨저 각도와 면적비에 따른 유동균일도 수치해석)

  • Because flow uniformity affects the life cycle and performance of the catalyst, it is an important design factor for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. We examined how the diffuser angle and the area ratio of the inlet of the SCR reactor to the front of the catalyst affect flow uniformity. For the numerical analysis, we used STAR-CCM+, a common CFD software program. Analysis results showed that the larger the area ratio was, the less the flow uniformity was, and that the longer the diffuser length was, the greater the flow uniformity was. When the area ratio was greater than 1:5, the flow uniformity appeared very similar at the front of the catalyst. As a result, the spread time of the exhaust gas increased and the flow velocity decreased.
