  • A significant trial has been performed for estimation of noise level of a cross flow fan for air conditioning system. In general, measurements of noise level of machinery require rigorous equipment involving an anechoic chamber with precision gauges. The apparatus is expensive to utilize and is not easy to construct. In this work, we adopt static pressure sensing from an ordinary pressure transducer for prediction of noise level of a rotating fan. The present procedure is finding sound pressure from the static pressure by manipulating Light-Curle equation depicts noisy energy in terms of pressure on surfaces of noise generators. Sound power level near core unit of the fan is evaluated with the present methodology in a normal laboratory room without any sound absorbers. The method is easy and shows good prediction results compared with precise measurements by using microphones.

  • Extracting information of maps is necessary to establish the GIS. In this paper, a house recognition method on the scanned topographic map is described. A contour detection method is used to extract houses from the scanned maps and RLE (run-length encoding) method is used for manipulating houses touching grid lines. To handle houses touched to roads and borderlines, morphological operation is used. To remove misrecognition occurred by morphological operation, the legions which contain characters on the map are also automatically eliminated.

  • This study characterizes the growth of white rot fungi Phanerochaete chrysosporium IFO 31249) and lignin peroxidase(LiP) activity in different submerged culture media. P. chrysosporium was grown in the form of pellet of various sizes from a spore inoculum under shaking liquid culture condition. While the growth of mycelia was higher under the nitrogen-sufficient culture than under the nitrogen-limited culture, ligninase activity was relatively lower. The lignin peroxidase appeared in nitrogen-limited culture and was suppressed by excess nitrogen. High level(40U/l) of lignin peroxidase activity was obtained in the growth medium containing 1.5mM veratryl alcohol, a secondary metabolite of P. chrysosporium. Lignin peroxidase production was not observed under conditions of nitrogen sufficiency or in balanced media, suggesting that control parameters could increase the activity by manipulating the secondary metabolism.

  • Nowadays many articles describe the controlling models for four rotor flying vehicle. Basic approaches to the problem of these articles are mathematical expressions describing dynamics of the models of the vehicle and PID control for manipulating the object in 3 dimensional space. Design of control systems is usually started by careful consideration of its mathematical model description. We present a detailed mathematical model for a quad rotor. This paper first considers simulation of quadcopter control based on full state feedback technique with linearization in MATLAB environment and shows the results of the simulations. Finally will be shown experimental results of the state feedback control implemented in real model.

  • The concept of the manipulability measure of the robotic mechanism is extended to the dual arm holding a single object. This is a measure of manipulating ability of the dual arm forming a closed kinematic chain in positioning and orienting the object. Dual arm manipulability measure is defined and compared to the single arm manipulability measure, and some properties are investigated.

  • To improve the identification power of TLC/HPTLC the in situ reflectance spectra obtained directly from plates with commercial scanner are used. The spectrum normalization should be carried out prior to comparing and searching the spectra from library for the identification of compounds. Because the reflectance does not obey the Lambert-Beer's law, there arise some problems in normalization. These problems could be solved to some extent by normalizing the spectra with regression methods. The spectra are manipulated with the regression function of a curve obtained from the correlation plot. When the parabola was used as the manipulating function, the spectra were identified with the accuracy of 97% and this result was better than that of conventionally used the point and area normalization method.

  • One of the more promising proposals for guiding and focusing neutral atoms involves dark hollow laser beams. When the frequency of the laser is detuned to the blue of resonance, the dipole force the atoms feel in the light confines them to the dark core where the atoms can be transported with minimal interaction with the light. The ability of the all-light atom guides to transport large number of ultracold atoms for long distances without physical walls leads to the possibility of a versatile tool for atom lithography, atom interferometry, atomic spectroscopy as well as for transporting and manipulating Bose-Einstein condensates. Furthermore since the atoms transported in all-light atom guides do not come into contact with matter, they can in principle be used to transport antimatter as well. The ability to vary the core size of the hollow beam makes the all-light atom guide potentially useful for focusing neutral atoms. The atoms could be focused as tight as the core size of the hollow beam at its waist. This new focusing scheme, called the atom funnel, would not show spherical and chromatic aberrations that conventional harmonic focusing suffers from. (omitted)

  • Acoustic brightness and contrast control are promising techniques for manipulating acoustic energy over selected zones of interest using loudspeaker arrays. In this paper, the fundamental theory and concept of the brightness and contrast control is reviewed. The similarity and difference of two different strategies are explained in terms of the constraint required to determine a unique solution among many possible candidates. The application examples and recent progresses of the brightness and contrast control are presented.

  • In this study, a design for a shape of centrifugal pump impeller has been performed using a p.c. under a Windows environment. Interaction between a user and a computer has been easily established using the Visual Basic. In determining an outer diameter of an impeller, steps are divided into two, a basic computational step and a refinment step. In this way user can enter his/her experience at the refinment step and hence can expect to lessen the nonlinear nature inherent to the design. In determining a shape of a side view of an impeller, the Bezier cubic curve has been used, and it can be seen that the Bezier cubic curves are well suited in the shape design under a Windows environment. By simply manipulating the four control points, one can generate various cubic curves among which one is selected. Also, a simple method, which can determine the curved position of an impeller vane, has been developed. These data can be used for final CAD drawings.

  • This paper proposes a nonlinear adaptive controller based on back-stepping method for tracking reference substrate concentration by manipulating dilution rate in a continuous baker's yeast cultivating process in stirred tank bioreactor. Control law is obtained from Lyapunov control function to ensure asymptotical stability of the system. The Haldane model for the specific growth rate depending on only substrate concentration is used in this paper. Due to the uncertainty of specific growth rate, it has been modified as a function including the unknown parameter with known bounded values. The substrate concentration in the bioreactor and feed line are measured. The deviation from the reference is observed when the external disturbance such as the change of the feed is introduced to the system. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulation results in continuous system.
