  • Cooperative ARQ scheme is effective for better QoS guarantee for the next generation mobile communication systems where multimedia data transmission highly increases. In this paper, we propose a cooperative ARQ strategy in ad hoc cognitive relays for mobile multimedia communication for supporting instantaneous cooperation in MANET environment. In the proposed strategy, to support real time, delay-sensitive services, whenever a frame is transmitted from the source, each relay actively senses the SINR of the signal transmitted from the source, and determine whether to propose retransmission or not before the destination transmits feedback signal. To minimize the false retransmission decision or needless retransmission, we propose an adaptive sensing threshold optimization algorithm to maintain suboptimal sensing thresholds for each relay. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed cooperative ARQ retransmission scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to frame transmission delay and frame loss probability in real time multimedia data transmission system.

  • This paper presents an analytical method for finding the optimum transmission range in mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs). The results are particularly useful for the operation of military networks, as the transmission range affects the traffic throughput of user & routing traffic, delay, and frequency interference. When the conditions of tactical environment are applied in our simulations and the above-mentioned performances are analyzed, we find the OLSR protocol is more excellent. Plus, we compare the results of MANETs performance when applying optimum transmission range and the default transmission range(10km), and analyze the reasonability of the calculation of optimum transmission range proposed by this paper.

  • Wireless mesh network, which is an access network technology, adopts ubiquitous features of ad-hoc network that includes capabilities of self-configuration and self-management. This paper proposes a scheme which enables nodes along route in wireless mesh network to authenticate data and verify data integrity. The scheme distinguishes infra-node, which is a network device used to form mesh network, and user node in ad-hoc network, which operates functions as a sender, receiver or relayer, to deploy different authentication scheme. That is, hop-based authentication scheme along route forming wireless backbone differs from authentication scheme for user nodes in route over MANET. The proposed scheme is less complex than previously proposed schemes from the repects of security setup procedures and managements. In addition, the scheme is able to reduce transmission delay from a source to a destination owing to fast authentication over wireless backbone.

  • MANET constructs a network that is free and independent between sensor nodes without infrastructure. Also, there are a lot of difficulties to manage data process, control etc.. back efficiently from change of topology by transfer of sensor node that compose network. Especially, because each sensor node must consider mobility certainly, problem about energy use happens. To solve these problem, mechanisms that compose cluster of cluster header and hierarchic structure between member were suggested. However, accompanies inefficient energy consumption because sensing power level of sensor node is fixed and brings energy imbalance of sensor network and shortening of survival time. In this paper, I suggested intelligent clustering mechanism for efficient energy management to solve these problem of existent Clustering mechanism. Proposed mechanism corresponds fast in network topology change by transfer of sensor node, and compares in existent mechanism in circumstance that require serial sensing and brings elevation survival time of sensor node. Please put the abstract of paper here.

  • With the advent of Ubiquitous environment, wired-wireless combination network is being studied very actively in which mobile nodes having multi-hop communication capability connect wired internet network easily, and shares the information. The study of wired and wireless combination network between MANET(Mobile Ad Hoc Network) and wired network is being focused only on the configuration of heterogeneous network interface. The proposed algorithm establishes independent multi-paths between source node and destination node to prevent data loss when errors happen in route. As the result, it shows that the reliability of the combination network can be improved by making data transmit continuously on the route error.

  • It is not easy to access very high speed Internet services at sea due to some technical and economical problems. In order to realize the very high speed Internet services at sea like on land, new communication network models based on MANET should be adopted. In this paper, a new MANET model at sea is provided, which considered the ocean environments, and the characteristics and movement of vessels. On the basis of the fact that most vessels navigate on the predetermined courses, which are the shortest paths between source and destination ports in most cases, a type of location oriented routing protocol is proposed in this paper. The Hybrid Course-Based Routing Protocol(HCBR) makes use of the static information such as courses and positions of ports to proactively find the shortest paths not only among ports but also the cross points of courses. HCBR also makes use of the locational information of vessels obtained via GPS and AIS systems to reactively discover the shortest route by which data packets are delivered between them. We have simulated the comparison of the performance of HCBR with those of LAR scheme 1 and scheme2, the most typical protocols using geographical information. The simulation results show that HCBR guarantees the route discovery even without using any control packet. They also show that HCBR is more reliable(40%) and is able to obtain more optimal routes(10%) than LAR scheme1 and scheme2 protocols.

  • In Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET), mobile nodes are operated by limited batteries. Therefore, it is very important to consume the battery power efficiently to prevent termination of the network. In this paper, we propose Energy-aware Dynamic Source Routing(EDSR) which is based on the Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) to increase the packet transmission and lifetime of the network. If the battery power of a node reaches threshold level, then the node gives up the function of relaying to save battery power except as a source and a destination node. While the conventional DSR doesn't consider the battery consumptions of the nodes, EDSR blocks the nodes from relaying whose battery powers are below the threshold level. Simulation results show the proposed EDSR is more efficient in packet transmission and network lifetime through the balanced battery consumption of the mobile nodes.

  • Mobile Ad-Hoc networks (MANET) has been getting the spotlight in the area of the wireless networks because of its flexibility and salability, and developing of many applications with it. As a consequence, MANETs are required to process not only simple data traffics, but also multimedia traffics, which has some constraints on the performances. However, unlike wired-networks, the wireless networks have frequent route-disconnections due to some reasons such as channel errors and mobility. Such frequent link disconnections makes the delivery of multimedia traffics difficult. Even though there many researches on multimedia transmissions on various environments, the performances of multimedia transmissions over fading channel and mobility even using various routing protocols have not been evaluated. Therefore, this paper extensively simulates the MPEG-4 video transmission over fading channel environment with node's mobility. In addition, the performances with two routing protocols such as AODV and DSR are compared. Finally, the simulation results shows that DSR protocol has the better performances to deliver MPEG-4 traffic.

  • A VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Network), a subclass of MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network), is an ad hoc network using wireless communication between vehicles without fixed infrastructure such as base station. VANET suffers a frequent link breakage and network topology change because of the rapid movement of vehicles and the density change of vehicles. From these characteristics of VANET, geographical routing protocols such as GPSR (Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing) using only the information of neighbor nodes are more suitable rather than AODV and DSR that are used in existing MANETs. However, GPSR may have a transmission delay and packet loss by frequent link disconnection and continual local maxima under the low vehicle density conditions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a DTVR (Delay Tolerant Vehicular Routing) algorithm that perform a DTN-based routing scheme if there is no 2-hop neighbor nodes for efficient routing under the low vehicle densities in VANETs. Simulation results using ns-2 reveal that the proposed DTVR protocol performs much better performance than the existing routing protocols.

  • This paper proposes a new multipath-based routing protocol on MANETs with Fast-Recovery of failures. The proposed protocol establishes the primary and secondary paths between a source and a destination considering the end-to-end packet reception reliability of routes. The primary path is used to transmit messages, and the secondary path is used to recover the path when detecting failures on the primary path. If a node detects a link failure during message transmission, it can recover the path locally by switching from the primary to the secondary path. By allowing the intermediate nodes to recover locally the route failure, the proposed protocol can reduce the number of packet loss and the amount of control packets for setting up new paths. The simulation result using QualNet simulator shows that the proposed protocol was about 10-20% higher than other protocols in terms of end-to-end message delivery ratio and the fault recovery time in case of link fault was about 3 times faster than the other protocols.
