  • Aspergillus fumigatus is one of the most common fungi in the human environment, both in-doors and out-doors. It is the main causative agent of invasive aspergillosis, a life-threatening mycosis among immunocompromised patients. The genome has been sequenced by an international consortium, including the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (U.K.) and The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR, U.S.A.), and a ten times whole genome shotgun sequence assembly has been made publicly available. In this study, we identified tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzymes of A. fumigatus by comparative analysis with four other fungal species. The open reading frames showed high amino acid sequence similarity with the other fungal citric acid enzymes and well-conserved functional domains. All genes present in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, Candida albicans, and Neurospora crassa were also found in A. fumigatus. In addition, we identified four A. fumigatus genes coding for enzymes in the glyoxylate shunt, which may be required for fungal virulence. The architecture of multi-gene encoded enzymes, such as isocitrate dehydrogenase, 2-ketoglutarate, succinyl-CoA synthetase, and succinate dehydrogenase was well conserved in A. fumigatus. Furthermore, our results show that genes of A. fumigatus can be detected reliably using GlimmerM.

  • We propose an asymmetrical 2.5 Gbps / 622 Mbps bidirectional optical subscriber network with Manchester coded downstream and NRZ (Non-Return-to-Zero) upstream remodulation. The proposed system has important characteristics in the optical network unit (ONU): it does not require a light source or the usual control circuits such as wavelength control and output power control, and it is possible to use a synchronization scheme between upstream and downstream data. We theoretically analyze BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of upstream data remodulated with Manchester coded downstream according to the types of NRZ downstream data and perform simulations with MATLAB. The BER performance and the receiver sensitivity have been improved by 3 dB by adjusting threshold levels compared to the conventional receiver. The results have shown the remodulation scheme with Manchester coded downstream could be a useful technology for asynchronous and asymmetric optical subscriber networks with low cost and simple structures.

  • In this paper, we propose an indoor visible light communication(VLC) localization using Walsh code which can identify overlapped signals transmitted from the different LED sources as each of orthogonal signal at a receiver and using Manchester code which can eliminate the flicker of LED light and maintain a constant brightness. The proposed system can estimate the relative position of the receiver by using Lambertian radiation properties and trilateration method that are applied to the location information of fixed LED sources and the received signals from them. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed system, we carried out the simulation in an indoor space with $6{\times}6{\times}1.5m^3$ installed LED lamps of 16. The simulation result shows that the proposed method achieves an average positioning error of 0.0536 m and a maximum positioning error of 0.2977 m.

  • 60+ Years of nuclear power generation has led to a significant legacy of radioactively contaminated land at a number of nuclear licenced "mega sites" around the world. The safe management and remediation of these sites is key to ensuring there environmental stewardship in the long term. Bioremediation utilizes a variety of microbially mediated processes such as, enzymatically driven metal reduction or biominerialisation, to sequester radioactive contaminants from the subsurface limiting their migration through the geosphere. Additionally, some of these process can provide environmentally stable sinks for radioactive contaminants, through formation of highly insoluble mineral phases such as calcium phosphates and carbonates, which can incorporate a range of radionuclides into their structure. Bioremediation options have been considered and deployed in preference to conventional remediation techniques at a number of nuclear "mega" sites. Here, we review the applications of bioremediation technologies at three key nuclear licenced sites; Rifle and Hanford, USA and Sellafield, UK, in the remediation of radioactively contaminated land.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial structure of laboring classes in Manchester in the 19th century. Manchester had districts where laboring classes lived in destitution. Elizabeth Gaskell's Mary Barton demonstrates the miserable state of laboring classes by depicting their small, dirty living residential spaces. Engels's The Condition of the Working Class in England analyzes the laboring classes in industrial areas in England, especially Manchester. The laboring classes' districts formed in a set pattern were separated from the area for bourgeois. It lied in the old district near commercial areas, while upper classes were outside areas. It was the dominant ideology that drove the transformation of Manchester as an industrial city characterized by separation.

  • Greg([Greg]) considered that $$N_k= \sum\limits_{i=1}^k(-1)^{i+1}P_{i,k}(p)N_1^i$$ where the $P_{i,k}$'s were polynomials with positive integer coefficients. In this paper, we will give the equations for $\sum\limits{P_{i,k}$ modulo 3. Using this, if we send a information for elliptic curve to sender, we can make a new checksum method for Manchester coding in IEEE 802.3 or IEEE 802.4.

  • We aimed to compare resection and survival outcomes of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and immediate surgery in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC) or borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC). In compliance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement standards, a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted. Random effects modeling was applied to calculate pooled outcome data. Likelihood of type 1 or 2 errors in the meta-analysis model was assessed by trial sequential analysis. A total of 400 patients from four RCTs were included. When RPC and BRPC were analyzed together, neoadjuvant CRT resulted in a higher R0 resection rate (risk ratio [RR]: 1.55, p = 0.004), longer overall survival (mean difference [MD]: 3.75 years, p = 0.009) but lower overall resection rate (RR: 0.83, p = 0.008) compared with immediate surgery. When RPC and BRPC were analyzed separately, neoadjuvant CRT improved R0 resection rate (RR: 3.72, p = 0.004) and overall survival (MD: 6.64, p = 0.004) of patients with BRPC. However, it did not improve R0 resection rate (RR: 1.18, p = 0.13) or overall survival (MD: 0.94, p = 0.57) of patients with RPC. Neoadjuvant CRT might be beneficial for patients with BRPC, but not for patients with RPC. Nevertheless, the best available evidence does not include contemporary chemotherapy regimens. Patients with RPC and those with BRPC should not be combined in the same cohort in future studies.

  • This review organises the fragmented management literature on platform business according to a conceptual map and a meta-theoretical scheme. Since the early 2000s, numerous researchers have examined platform business and two-sided networks with platform business and strategy being an important business innovation model for many industries, creating value primarily by enabling direct interactions. Platforms such as Google or Amazon contain a common set of rules and components in most user transactions. Thirty-two core papers and books on Strategic Management Journal, Industrial Economics and Operation Management-related disciplines are reviewed, with further observations on how cumulative research streams on the platform are carried out independently from each academic perspective. The first of the two arguments in this paper is that because interactive relationships bridge the platform and stakeholders such as end-users and developers, it is crucial for platform companies to be aware of their relationship with stakeholders in order to support and sustainably provide content to their platform. The second is that integrative perspectives are essential due to the low number of interdisciplinary investigations conducted thus far. The paper's final section deals with implications for theory and practice, concluding that integrative studies and interactive relationship studies should be the main research streams in future platform research.
