  • The compensation characteristics of WDM channels depending on residual dispersion per spans (RDPS) deviation in optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS for the adaptive configuration are investigated in this paper. Also, the link design rule related with RDPS deviations is proposed, from the viewpoint of the allowable net residual dispersion (NRD). It is confirmed that the effect of compensation for the distorted WDM channels is more increased as RDPS deviation is smaller. Also, it is confirmed that the decrease of the allowable NRD range for the exact eye opening penalty (EOP) is proportional to RDPS deviation. Therefore, the results of this research is expected to be the design reference for the flexible link configuration of long-haul optical transmission links.

  • The global nematicides market is expected to continue growing. With an increasing demand for synthetic chemical-free organic foods, botanical nematicides are taking the lead as replacements. Consequently, in the recent years, there have been vigorous efforts towards identification of the active secondary metabolites from various plants. These include mostly glucosinolates and their hydrolysis products such as isothiocyanates; flavonoids, alkaloids, limonoids, quassinoids, saponins, and the more recently probed essential oils, among others. And despite their overwhelming potential, variabilities in quality, efficacy, potency and composition continue to persist, and commercialization of new botanical nematicides is still lagging. Herein, we have reviewed the history of botanical nematicides and regional progresses, the potency of the identified phytochemicals from the key important plant families, and deciphered some of the impediments involved in standardization of the active compounds in addition to the concerns over the safety of the purified compounds to non-target microbial communities.

  • Three groups of 7, 8 and 8 barrows (22 weeks age; 35 kg body weight), reared on grower diets were fed ad libitum on three isonitrogenous finisher diets containing 50, 71 and 92% wheat bran by replacing maize grain till the attainment of about 74 kg slaughter weight. Growth pattern, average daily gain, feed intake, feed/gain ratio and carcass traits were similar in all the groups. The digestibility of DM, OM, CF, NFE total carbohydrate and energy (DE) decreased (p<0.01) with the increased level of wheat bran in the diet. However, CP digestibility was comparable among all the diet and the digestibility of EE was significantly (p<0.01) higher in grainless diet ($FD_3$). It appears that maize grain may be completely replaced with wheat bran in the diet of crossbred pigs without any adverse effect on their performance with respect to feed intake, body weight gain and carcass characteristics.

  • Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate the skin hydration level in various body sites and identify the influencing factors in neonates. Methods: An exploratory comparison study was designed to measure the stratum corneum hydration, using a National DM-R2 on the forehead, abdomen, buttocks, and the back of the hands and feet of 198 neonates including 92 premature infants. Results: The results showed 32.7%-36.5% of stratum corneum hydration for all sites. Premature infants revealed a higher hydration level on the peripheral sites (dorsal hand and feet) than those of the full-term infants, possibly resulting from therapeutic regimens including an incubator or radiant warmer. Infants in an incubator showed a higher hydration level than those in radiant warmers, suggesting more attention to fluid management for infants in the open environment. In addition, all stratum corneum hydration measurements except one, from the forehead, showed a positive correlation with postnatal age in full-term infants while showing no relation to any measurements in premature infants. Conclusion: The study demonstrated the very low skin hydration levels in hospitalized neonates, particularly in premature neonates with more susceptible skin hydration instability despite therapeutic interventions for fluid balance. More vigilant fluid management is imperative in neonates, particularly those in the open environment.

  • Supplier selection is an essential task within the purchasing function of supply chain management because it provides companies with opportunities to reduce various costs and realize stable and reliable production. However, many companies find it difficult to determine which suppliers should be targeted as each of them has varying strengths and weaknesses in performance which require careful screening by the purchaser. Moreover, information required to assess suppliers is not known precisely and typically fuzzy in nature. In this paper, therefore, fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (fuzzy MOLP) is presented under fuzzy goals: cost minimization, service level maximization and purchasing risk. To solve the problem, we introduce an enhanced two-phase approach of fuzzy linear programming for the supplier selection. In formulated problem, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the weights of criteria, and Taguchi Loss Function is employed to quantify purchasing risk. Finally, we provide a set of alternative solution which enables decision maker (DM) to select the best compromise solution based on his/her preference. Numerical experiment is provided to demonstrate our approach.

  • Reballasting at sea, as recommended by the IMO guidelines, currently provides the best-available measure to reduce the risk of transfer of harmful aquatic organisms, but is subject to serious ship-safety limits. It is therefore extremely important that alternative, effective ballast water management and treatment methods are developed as soon as possible, to replace reballasting at sea. Filtration-Ultraviolet radiation-Electrolytic process (FUE) was evaluated for disinfection of seawater used In ballast water Optimal current density and UV light intensity were 2.0A/dm$^2$ and, 220㎼/$\textrm{cm}^2$/m with which 100% reduction time was 2sec in a Ultraviolet radiation-Electrolytic process. This study showed that FUE process was effective for the disinfection of commonly isolated bacteria and bacillus from ballast water.

  • ERP system is a good one because it provides required data to the Board of Directors at the right time, but needs to collect many data in this system. Nevertheless, increase in data leads to the system's quality deterioration which makes companies to carry out quality improvement. In order to solve quality deterioration problem, a company's quality improvement director must execute under acknowledgement of the relationships between sectors to be improved, which are DBMS, Application, System, Data Management, Archiving, and Reorganization. But in many cases, these relationships are ignored due to massive size of each of the sectors, resulting fragmental quality improvement operation. This case paper proposes a solution to effectively solve quality deterioration problem created by the massive data produced while operating ERP System(constructed by SAP package and web). First, it defines the sectors where quality improvements are vital, and lists out things to be considered. Then, by analysing the working process of these sectors, proposes the most efficient order of the improvement process. This case will eventually help the company's quality improvement director to execute quality improvement most effectively without trials and errors, which is this paper's ultimate goal.

  • Digital Contents Services based on Internet are developing into an ubiquitous television that allows subscribers to be able to enjoy digital contents anytime and anywhere However, illegal copies and distributions of digital contents are also increasing proportionally. To guarantee the stability of contents service, many technologies are being developed and installed. The efficient scheme to manage content encryption keys is one of them. In this paper, we propose an improved key management scheme to manage the members of groups. The proposed scheme has a minimized transmission overhead for batch operation to renew content encryption keys.

  • It is a difficult task for decision makers(DMs) to choose an appropriate release plan which balances the conflicts between water storage and hydro-electric energy generation in a multi-reservoir operation problem. In this study, we proposed a DEA-based ranking procedure by which the DM can rank the potential alternatives and select the best solution among the Pareto-optimal solutions. The proposed procedure can resolve the problem of mix inefficiency that may cause errors in measuring the efficiency of alternatives. We applied the proposed procedure to the multi-reservoir operation problem for the Geum-River basin and could choose the best efficient solution from the Pareto-set which were generated by the Coordinated Multi-Reservoir Operating Model.
