The questionnaires of the survey targeting the 99 specialty hospitals were collected that 786 copies of them were utilized in analysis. The major outcomes of the research can be summarized as follows. Firstly, transformational leadership of specialty hospital CEO generally has the greater impact on the employees' job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention than his transactional leadership. Secondly, the most important sub-variable of specialty hospital CEO leadership affecting the organizational effectiveness of the employees are charisma of transformational leadership and contingent reward of transactional leadership. Thirdly, the sub-variable of specialty hospital CEO leadership which has the greatest impact on customer orientation of employees is the active management-by-exception of transactional leadership. Fourthly, the sub-variables in the organizational effectiveness such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment and the turnover intention of hospital employees play mostly the partial mediation role between the customer orientation of employees and the leadership of a specialty hospital CEO. This means that the more the organizational effectiveness of specialty hospital employees improves, the more the customer orientation does. Thus, specialty hospital CEOs need to pay attention to the sub-variables in organizational effectiveness so as to improve the customer orientation of the employees. To explore further the nature of the effect of hospital leadership in the future, apart form the variables of the organization effectiveness used in this study to improve the customer orientation of employees through the leadership of the specialty hospital CEO, the research to identify other factors which have greater influence and explanatory power will be needed.

  • A sample of Italian manufacturing companies was selected in order to verify the abilities and effects (relationships) of the management factors human resources, leadership and strategic planning on company performance. The Partial Least Squares (PLS) estimation method was used for analyzing the data collected, where the relationships between the management factors and performance were formalized by a Structural Equation Model (SEM). The analysis of the survey data showed unexpected result regarding the non significant direct relationship between Leadership and Performance. The effect of Leadership is obtained by an indirect relationship through Human Resources. The combination of Leadership and Human Resources has hence been identified as the management factors which have the highest impact on the performance of Italian industrial companies. Another interesting and unexpected result was that there was no significant impact of Strategic Planning on Performance. It seems that the leaders of Italian industrial companies have not understood that good strategic planning is a necessary condition for achieving excellence. So another improvement area is in fact Strategic Planning. This area should have the highest priority of any top management team and the focus should include how to establish a strong relationship between strategic planning and performance. No correlation between strategic planning and performance is a strong indication that something is wrong. It is not enough that Leadership is doing Strategic Planning-Leadership is also about studying and follow up on results in order to assure impacts on performance. This link seems to be missing in Italian industrial companies.

  • Interior design companies in Seoul, Korea, senior level designers-designers shared leadership model has not been implemented by the design management. The whole interior design companies are worked each by a leadership team consisting of senior level designers, contractors and designers, being accountable for company, workers, and budgets. The results for workers' opinion in leadership positions were evaluated. All 154 leading workers of all professional teams were anonymously interviewed with a questionnaire containing 45 items regarding their satisfaction with this new shared leadership model. The response rate was 96.2%. After all, the leading workers were satisfied with the shared leadership model both in their own designing practice and in general. Non-design workers were comprehensively more in favor of quite a few aspects of shared leadership than senior level designers, but even the latter reported to be generally satisfied. However, both professional teams estimated leading positions to be only modestly attractive. The consequences yield some evidence that the transform from traditional leadership models to the senior level designers -designers shared leadership model may have advantages in the management of interior design companies. Furthermore, there is a need for greater clarity about precisely what we mean by shared leadership and also a deeper exploration of potential challenges arising from shared leadership models if we are to try to come to terms with their practice.

  • The purpose of this study is to highlight the effects of the two leadership styles, namely: transformational leadership and transactional leadership, on the different types of followership through analyzing their impact in the productivity and competitiveness of human resources in IT SMEs. The paper focuses on determining whether transformational leadership or transactional leadership is more effective as shown by the levels of empowerment derived from these two types of leadership under study. From this study, alien, role model and passive types of followership, transformational leadership appears to be more influential for personal empowerment. As for group level of empowerment, the transformational type of leadership shows higher effectiveness in alien, role model, passive, and practical types of followership. On the other hand, transactional leadership yields positive impact on practical and conformist types of followership. In summary, personal empowerment plays a direct impact on group empowerment. Thus, with the exception of conformist type of followership, transformational leadership has more impact in human resources of IT SMEs.
