  • This study examines the wage level from a viewpoint of major-job match as part of an analysis on the skill mismatch problem in 4-year college graduates. The empirical analysis explicitly incorporate the sample selection bias as an econometric problem not only suggested but merely introduced in the earlier studies. This study also set up a major-job match variable, which was usually handled as a binary variable for analytical convenience, as a polychotomous choice variable in selection equation as provided by the survey. In particular, it considered multi-cohort survey on graduates of the years 1982, 1992, and 2002 for the empirical analysis. As a result of empirical analysis, the wage premium of a major-job match was identified. This result was consistent after the consideration of a sample selection bias and also after modeling the major-job match variable as polychotomously selective. Through an analysis classified by the major, this study identified a relatively high wage premium among Social Science, Engineering, and Science majors. However, there was a difference in the effect of selection among these majors. Also, by assessing cohort effects this study found that the skill mismatch had rapidly progressed in 1992, while difference between 1992 and 2002 cohorts are insignificant. The analysis suggests that wage level is better understood within the context of both sample selection and major-job match, and regardless of model specification the major-job match affects wage strongly.

  • Purpose: We investigated the motivation of selecting major, the satisfaction of major and the view on occupation of emergency medical technology (EMT) students. The results of study will be used to increase the satisfaction of major of university students. Also, it can be used to support decision of major for high school students. Method: We conducted 1,586 surveys from 665 students at six four-year colleges and 921 students at seven three-year colleges. Our research period was from Aug. 27th to Oct. 31st in 2010. The surveys were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 using description statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe and Pearson correlation coefficient. Result: In our study, the motivation of selecting major is 35.8% of students selected 'good employment prospects', satisfaction of major's $M{\pm}SD$ is $3.15{\pm}.486$, adaptation of major's $M{\pm}SD$ is $3.11{\pm}.472$. The satisfaction of major show difference (t = 4.548 p = .000) by sex, also the adaptation of major show difference (t = 2.279, p = .023) by sex. The satisfaction of major show first grade students higher (F = 3.605, p = .013) than fourth grade students at four-year colleges. If satisfaction of major is high, accumulation evaluation score is high (F = 3.276, p = .011), too. Clinical practice experienced students was higher (t = -2.878, p = .004) than non experienced it satisfaction. In view of occupation, ideal job's factors and actual job's factors a lot of students selected 'aptitude'. Also, there is a statistically significant correlation (r = .618, p = .000) between the satisfaction of major and the adaptation of major. High satisfaction indicates high adaptation of major. Conclusion: In our study satisfaction of major and adaptation of major was very high score. EMT students concern about employment prospects at most. It is inferred that they select job which match with one's aptitude. We can suppose that students select major as a tool for employment by seeing result that a lot of students consider employment prospects at most when they select major. A method to improve the satisfaction and adaptation of major should be developed by realizing problems which occur the dissatisfaction of major. Also, there as on why students conflict between ideal and actual job should be revealed. There as on seems students want stable occupation in unstable job market situation. Therefore, the expansion of job matching aptitude and being stable should be processed. Finally, university should actively support the method that help to finding jobs for student by identifying job preparation of students.

  • An equivalent schema matching among several different source schemas is very important for information integration or mining on the XML based World Wide Web. Finding most similar source schema corresponding mediated schema is a major bottleneck because of the arbitrary nesting property and hierarchical structures of XML DTD schemas. It is complex and both very labor intensive and error prune job. In this paper, we present the first complex matching of XML schema, i.e. XML DTD, inlining two dimensional DTD graph into flat feature values. The proposed method captures not only schematic information but also integrity constraints information of DTD to match different structured DTD. We show the integrity constraints based hierarchical schema matching is more semantic than the schema matching only to use schematic information and stored data.

  • To figure out the present status of Korean middle school science curriculum in the national level is not an easy job. especially in the restricted condition such as this research project. Therefore, to achieve a meaningful result, the case study type of research was adopted In the study five middle schools (2boy's and 3girl's)were selected and examined intensively. In this study, two major works were done. One was the analysis of the present middle school science curriculum and the other was to examine the current status of the administration of the curriculum in schools. This first study focused on the evaluation of the current Curriculum. Acording to the result, the objectives stated in the teachers guide and implied by the testbook were heavily concentrated on the knowledge level in Boom's taxonomy. Achievement on the objectives which were selected as important were very low. The average pass rate for the selected objectives was less than 50% of the students. This means the content level of the present science curriculum is not appropriate. The study suggested that the present middle school science curriculum should be revised and the content should be replaced with easier topics to match the students cognitive level. The study also suggested further studies to measure the cognitive level of Korean students in national scale.

  • For the purpose of strengthening Dental Hygiene students' confidence and motivation in the Dental Hygiene Department and helping construct proper professionalism, survey on Dental Hygiene students' consciousness of attitude to and satisfaction of the course, career plan and occupation mind set was carried out. 530 three year students in 8 Dental Hygiene academies in Seoul and Kyonggi province were questioned. The results of the survery are as follows:. 1. Dental Hygiene students' motives consisted primarily of employment and a desire for professionalism 25% of them entered the course after one failure in the entrance examination and 17% had family members engaging in the dentistry field 84%, the largest portion, were from an academic high school. 24% had some knowledge of Dental Hygiene, which they had acquired from seniors, friends, and teachers. 2. Patient care and treatment assistance related matters were not considered important in the course. The weak points of the course turned out to be education in computers and foreign languages, but the weakest was the ability of patient care during clinical training. 53% had experiences had thought of changing their major while in the course because it didn't match their aptitude and interest. 3. As for a career after graduation, 49% worried about it Most students wanted to work at a dental hospital or general hospital, The most favored duty was coordination or reception or oral disease preventive work. They wanted to work untill they had a stable living. 68% answered they would get a job at an oral clinic and 70% said they would continue studying for self-realization. 4. Satisfaction with the major was high in students whose aptitude and interest matched the course, who had background knowledge of the major, and who. didn't think of changing the major but would continue studying resulting in statistically slight difference(p<0.001). As to satisfaction with the faculties, it was high in the students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a slight difference(p<05, p<0l). As for satisfaction with clinical training, students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't consider changing the major answered positively showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.01). As to satisfaction with the course, it was high in the students who entered with aptitude and interest, who had preliminary knowledge, who didn't consider changing the major, and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.05). 5. Occupation mind-set was positive for students who entered with interest and aptitude, who had preliminary knowledge, and who had not considered changing the major showing a statistically slight difference(P<.001). The higher the satisfaction with the major, faculty and clinical training was, the more positive the occupation mind-set was(p<.001).

  • Although the usefulness and importance of clinical application of nursing diagnosis are well recognized by the academic circle, it is not yet generally practiced. In order to provide data for establishing a policy for clinical nursing diagnosis; a study was made at a seminar, sponsored by the Department of nursing, Severance Hospital, with participation of 190 nurses from 33 hospitals. The objective of the study was to find out; 1) if the nurses agree with the academic community in recognizing the benefits and problems of clinical application of nursing diagnosis; 2) how the nurses evaluate their ability to carry out nursing diagnosis; and 3) if educational programs would help enhance ability of nursing diagnosis among nurses. The summary of findings by the study is as follows; 1. While all nurses responded positively on the question of benefits improving science and quality of nursing, thus elevating credibility and position of nurses, some expressed concern on the practicality of the system in setting up nursing objectiveness, confirming the nursing problems and utilizing patient information. For the 20 questions and the scale of 1~5, the lowest average score was 3.223 and the highest 4.066. 2. The study attempted to find out the opinion of the nurses on the problems that 'would make difficult to adopt the nursing diagnosis in clinics. The result of the study indicates the nurses believe the major problems are the fact that the subject of nursing diagnosis are not well defined and that the form sheets do not match with the ones that are currently being used. However, comparing it with the result of the previous study on the same question (inadequate manpower and insufficienf time allocated for the job were two major problems pointed out then.), it can be said that the opinion of the nurses studied this time was much more positive and it suggests that they believe the system can be adopted without increasing manpower and only by giving additional training and by adjusting the format of nursing record sheets. It suggests that the future for adopting a clinical nursing diagnosis is very bright. 3. As the most urgent problem to be solved for adopting clinical nursing diagnosis, 38. 5% responded that it was "education of nurses, "and 34.2% responded that it was "staffing adequate number of nurses". 4. For the 10 questions asked for self-evaluation of ability to adopt the system, with the scale of 1~5, average score was lower than 3. This indicate that they evaluate their ability to adopt the system is low. 5. The results of study taken before and after the educational programs for clinical nursing diagnosis were compared with overall score in order to determine if such program would cause changes in the response to the effect of clinical application of nursing diagnosis, and it was found that there was statistically significant changes suggesting that the education contributed to positive change in the response. 6. The results of study taken before and after the educational programs for clinical nursing diagnosis were compared with overall score in order to determine how the proble~ ms for adopting nursing system would be effected by such educational programs, and it was found that those problems be not soived with a short course of training. 7. The results of study taken before and after the educational programs for clinical nursing diagnosis were compared with overall score in order to determine if such programs would bring changes in the self-evaluation of nurses on the ability of nursing diagno sis, and it was found that program improve score of self-evaluation their ability of the nursing diagnosis. As seen in the above reports, it was found that the nu'rses are very positive about the clinical nursing diagnosis, that educational program for the clinical nursing diagnosis helps nurses for positively changing their attitude for ,the nursing diagnosis, for their self-confidence on their ability to perform nursing diagnosis. With improved know-how and self"confictence of nurses gained through educational and .training programs, the future of clinical application of nursing diagnosis is very bright.diagnosis is very bright.
