In this country, farmers lay out furrows in the direction which is considered by their own judgement to be convenient for cultivation without paying much attention for soil erosion. The direction of furrow has considerable effects on soil and water losses. In this experiment, it is intedned to observe the differences of soil and water losses in different directions of furrows of sloped fields so that the results thus obtained could be informed to farmers who should be careful in determining furrow direction for soil erosion control. Some the major experimental results are summarized as follows: The direction of furrows did not affect so much on the runoffs in a gentle slope, as the runoff is 509 ton/10a in the contouring plot, $51^{\circ}$/ton/10a in the 45-degree plot, and 560 ton/10a in the up-and-down hill plot. The contouring plot among the three plots had best effect on soil conservation, as the soil losses are 5.8 ton/10a in the contouring plot, 9.3 ton/10a in the 45 degree plot, and 10.2 ton/10a in the up-and-down hill plot.
Water losses in irrigation canals are mainly estimated as the sum of conveyance and delivery water loss. The losses occur via the evaporation, infiltration, gate operation and water distribution processing. Recently, the study regarding these water losses are not satisfactory enough, also delivery water loss has not been mainly considered on field design. The objective of this study is to investigate and analyze the volume of water loss in irrigation canals considering condition of actual farm land. A field measurement was performed at four research sites, which are managed by Korea Rural Community & Agriculture Corporation, to evaluate conveyance and delivery water loss for 2 years. The measurement was performed by canal type, size and designed flow using the inflow-outflow method at a major points such as start and end of each canal, derivation point of canal and inlet of paddy fields. Results of this study showed that water loss ratio in lateral canals was bigger than that of main canal unlike current design standard and the loss decrease as flow increase. The total of water loss ratio including conveyance and delivery water loss in several irrigation canals ranged between 33.25 and 45.0%.
The estimation of AC losses is demanded for higher efficiency and stability in AC use of superconducting coils. Hysteresis loss occurred by a.c. transport current is called of self field loss, and it is major part of losses generated in a.c. superconducting wire in case of located in low external magnetic field as superconducting transformer with iron core, or in short twist pitch wire, multiply stacking cable. In this paper, we calculate self field loss of superconducting wire.
A major problem in conventional multilevel inverter is that an increase in power semiconductor switches causes an increase in cost and switching losses of the inverter. The multicarrier strategy adopted for the multilevel inverters has become more popular due to reduced cost, lower harmonic distortion, and higher voltage capability than the conventional switching strategy applied to inverters. Various topologies and modulation strategies have been reported for utility and drive applications. Level shifted based pulse width modulation techniques are proposed to investigate the performance of the multilevel inverter. The proposed work focuses on reducing the utilized switches so that the cost and the switching losses of the inverter do not go up and the consistent efficiency could be achieved. This paper presents the detailed analysis of these topologies. The analysis is based on the number of switches, DC sources, output level, maximum voltage, and the efficiency. As an illustration, single phase cascaded multilevel inverter topologies are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the experimental results demonstrate the viability of these inverters.
AC losses in multifilamentary HTS tapes can be classified to hysteresis loss, coupling loss, and eddy current loss from the viewpoint of their generation mechanism. From the viewpoint of the major magnetic field component generating them, they can be classified to magnetization loss, transport loss, and total loss. Dividing superconductor to fine filaments, twisting filaments bundle and increasing transverse resistivity are effectively reduce magnetization loss and total loss when the external magnetic field is relatively large. Recently, twisted multifilamentary Bi 2223 tapes with pure silver matrix were fabricated and the reduction of magnetization loss was proved experimentally in the parallel magnetic field to the tape wide face. However, when the perpendicular magnetic field is applied, increasing transverse resistivity is required essentially to reduce the AC losses. The transverse resistivity was increased successfully by the introduction of resistive barrier between filaments.
Large AC loss from the second generation (2G) high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires has been one of the major bottlenecks in power applications with HTS materials. Moreover, the large power applications also require the large current capacity from the HTS wires, which makes them produce larger AC losses. In order to reduce the AC loss from the HTS conductors with large current capacity, an HTS compact cable with some striations on the superconducting layers has been proposed. In this paper, we prepared some sample HTS compact conductors with striations, and measured their magnetization loss from the external magnetic field. We also made some slits on the superconducting layer of the HTS wire by laser cutting to reduce the aspect ratio of the superconducting layers. It would make the low eddy current loss and magnetic decoupling. Finally, the magnetization losses of the sample HTS compact conductors were measured and analyzed.

The safety accident of construction industries occur variously in other industries, including other industries, resulting in significant losses of human and material losses. In particular, General worker represents the highest safety accident rate each year, and the various types of accidents are the ones that show the greatest interest in the field, which is the most interesting job in the field. This study aims to identify trends in safety hazards and to analyze the accident severity for major types and influence factors.
This study aims to analyze the risk factors caused by object damage and third-party damage loss in actual bridge construction based on past insurance premium payment data from major domestic insurers for bridge construction projects, and develop a quantitative loss prediction model. For the development of quantitative bridge construction loss model, the dependent variable was selected as the loss ratio, and the independent variable adopted 1) Technical factors: superstructure type, foundation type, construction method, and bridge length 2) Natural hazards: flood anf Typhoon, 3) Project information: total construction duration, total cost and ranking. Among the selected independent variables, superstructure type, construction method, and project period were shown to affect the ratio of bridge construction losses, while superstructure, foundation, flood and ranking were shown to affect the ratio of the third-party losses.
It is required that the indoor-noise level of KHST (Korean High Speed Train) should be lower than 66 dB(A) at 300 km/h. In this study, the indoor-noise level of KHST has been predicted to determine the maximum allowable sound power levels of major noise sources. It is found that the indoor-noise requirements for KHST can be met by increasing the transmission losses of the floor and side-wall structures as well as by lowering the sound power levels of the major noise sources.
