The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between learning-related social skills, early school adjustment, and academic achievement. The sample consisted of 160 first grade children in one elementary school in the city of Ilsan. The teacher rated children's learning-related social skills and early school adjustment. Academic achievement was assessed by scores on Korean language arts and math exams administered at the end of first semester. Learning-related social skills and early school adjustment were correlated with the children's academic achievement. Particularly, the cooperation and mastery behavior of learning-related social skills were strongly associated with the early school adjustment and academic achievement.
The objective of this study is to analyze the research articles on clinical social work practice effectiveness to build a scientific and scholaristic image of clinical social work practice. The data for analysis were the articles published in 13 professional journals including Korean J. of Social Welfare in the period of 1979 to 1999. The appearance rate of effectiveness studies was 1.28% with only 18 articles. Experimental studies consisted only 4 out of 18, and there were only 10 Quasi-experimental studies. Statistical errors were observed in most studies, so it is too early to call that the clinical social work practice is either effective or not effective. In order to see the comprehensive trends of the clinical social work practice, other clinical papers were also examined. The appearance rate was also as low as 8.75% (effectiveness studies included). While 18 articles were about the therapy model, other clinical papers were about generic practice models. However, those newly developed generic practice models had not yet been widely used nor tested for effectiveness. Thus, the followings were suggested: active research activities with solid methodology, team work with the field, theory and method development, education and re-education, and collaborative team work with other related fields. It was also pointed that the cross analysis of research papers by the publishing period, authors major and other background variables would be useful.
This study was carried out to describe and analyze experimental studies conducted in graduates nursing degree. Of 170 experimental studies conducted during the past three decades between 1962 and August 1991, 150 studies were available, including 124 master’s and 26 doctoral theses. This study examined their general characteristics and detailed research methods using percentiles. The results were as follows 1. Most of the studies adopted a quasi-experimental design. 2. The subjects of the studies were chosen by convenience sampling except for two studies whose subjects were drawn by randomization. Studies comparing experimental and control groups were in the highest proportion and the most frequent sample sizes of each group were 21 to 30 for both experimental and control groups. 3. As to measurement, physiological measures were most frequent followed by psychsociological measures and active report questionnaires. Each study, on average, adopted two kind of measurement tools. Studies in which the data collection period was of 1~2 months were in the highest pro-portion. 4. All doctoral theses and 67.0% of master’s theses examined specific research hypotheses. Of these studies, the results of 92.5% supported the hypotheses. 5. Parametric statistics were the major analytical methods. In particular, t-test was used most frequently followed by Chi square, F-test, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. 6. Patients were the most frequent study subjects. Frequent nursing interventions were information and education followed by support, distraction, and nursing treatments. 7. With regards to the dependent variables, “feelings” such as anxiety, pain, and depression were most frequent. In addition “exchanging” such as restoring, metabolism, cardiopulmonary function, infection and vital signs were adopted as the dependent variables in 29.1% of the studies examined, while 12.3% of the studies selected “choosing” such as stress, health behavior, or role performance.
The purpose of this study is to overview domestic and foreign trends in the study of the landscape evaluation through new framework of landscape evaluation studies. 108 studies on the landscape evaluation are summarized and categorized into theoretical studies, verification of theories, development of evaluation methods and applications in physical planning. Major theories in the landscape evaluation came from the psycho-physics, the evolutionary theory ann the cultural-learning theory, and were verified and applied into physical planning. Early experimental researches on landscape evaluation, based on psycho-physics, were focused on relatively simple responses to landscapes. But many studies have been gradually related to the evolutionary theory and the cultural learning theory, emphasizing biological and cultural effects on landscape evaluation. Especially, Appleton's Prospect-Refuge theory' and Kaplans' 'Information Processing model' have very strong influence in landscape evaluation. Relatively there have been many application researches in Korea, which tells there have been strong needs to solve pending practical problems caused by the rapid economic and social growth for several decades. Almost of applications in physical planning are focused on physical features of landscapes, but for more comprehensive landscape evaluation, many other factors such as cognitive and sociocultural variables should be integrated into the whole evaluation system. As a result of reviewing of landscape evaluation studies, I found the overall domestic and foreign trends and the necessity of more research on the applications in physical planning. Because this study mainly focused on academic researches, for more appropriate landscape evaluation and management there should be more practical researches including various approaches.
A questionnaire was distributed to 102 teachers who worked in non-profit, for-profit and company-operated child care centers. The relationships of demographic, work conditions, and social support variables were examined by correlation, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regressions. Results showed that working hours, salary and social support were the most important factors influencing emotional exhaustion. Higher levels of burnout were found among teachers of infants and toddlers who worked for more than 12 hours on average, teachers with lower salary, and those with a lower level of social support. Results in general indicated that shorter working hours was a very important variable for reduction in burnout among teachers of infants and toddlers.
This study investigated the effects of work-father role conflict and parenting stress on parenting sense of competence. The subjects were 205 fathers who had a child 3 to 6 years old in Daegu. The major findings of this study were as follows. (1) There is a significant difference in the work-father role conflict according to the child's sex and family income. (2) There is a significant difference in the parenting stress according to the child's sex. (3) There is a significant difference in the parenting sense of competence according to family income. (4) Parenting sense of competence isinfluenced by work-father role conflict. (5) Parenting sense of competence is influenced by parenting stress.
This article reviewed and analyzed 39 studies on self efficacy theory applied to health related behavior. The following analysis was done : 1) study subjects 2) measurement tools 3) analysis according to the type of research design(intervention re-search, explanatory research). Some findings are summarized as follows : The study subjects were both healthy people in various developmental stages and patients with various illnesses. The health related behaviors examined in the studies were also various including exercise, smoking cessation, self care behaviors, etc. The measurement of self efficacy was done with specific tools in most studies. In the tools, activities that measured the health behavior domain were listed according to increasing difficulty or contexual arrangement or in combination of both of them The analysis of 17 intervention research studies showed that generally the intervention program increased the self efficacy level of subjects and then the increased strongly self efficacy influenced behavioral changes. Most studies used more than one intervention method for increasing the self efficacy level. these were derived from sources of self efficacy suggested by Bandura. The analysis of 21 explanatory research studies showed that self efficacy strongly influenced behavior change and persistence. The major independent variable to affect the self efficacy was performance accomplishment in the past. Self efficacy explained more of the variance in health related behavior when it was applied with the variables in the health belief model, health promotion model, and reasoned action theory. On the basis of the above findings, the following suggestions are made : 1. For a desirable research design, self efficacy should be the intervening variable. That is, desirable designs would include intervention-self efficacy-behavior in intervention research studies and antecedent-self efficacy-behavior in explanatory research studies. 2. More prospective, longitudinal studies are needed to test the effect of self efficacy on persistence in health related behavior. 3. Studies comparing the effects of intervention methods are needed for each health related behavior, subject group, and context. 4. It is necessary to develop a reliable, valid measurement tool for self efficacy for each health related behavior. 5. Studies to differenciate the effect of self efficacy from that of outcome expectation on the health related behavior are necessary. 6. The antecedents of self efficacy should be investigated further.
This study examined the dual mediating effects of preschoolers' executive function and counterfactual thinking in the relationship between maternal reflective functioning and preschoolers' higher-order thinking. Participants included 293 preschoolers and their mothers in Daegu city and Gyeongsang province. The mothers completed questionnaires regarding their reflective functioning, preschoolers' executive function, and creative thinking. Teachers completed questionnaires regarding preschoolers' critical thinking and caring thinking. Preschoolers' counterfactual thinking was measured by interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis with SPSS 25.0. Path analysis and bootstrapping were used with AMOS 25.0 program. Also, specific indirect effect were analyzed using AMOS user-defined estimand function. The primary results of this study are as follows. Maternal reflective functioning had an indirect effect on preschoolers' critical thinking and caring thinking through preschoolers' executive function and counterfactual thinking; however, maternal reflective functioning had no indirect effect on preschoolers' creative thinking through preschoolers' executive function and counterfactual thinking. This study revealed that maternal reflective functioning and preschoolers' executive function and counterfactual thinking need to be considered simultaneously to explain the level of preschoolers' higher-order thinking. The results highlight the dual mediating effects of preschoolers' executive function and counterfactual thinking in the relationship between maternal reflective functioning and preschoolers' higher-order thinking.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of the studies related to 'Community of Practice (CoP)' in Korea. 79 research papers published in the KCI level Korean journals were collected, and analyzed according to 'research area', 'research theme', 'research methods'. The definitions and the performance factors of CoP were analyzed as well. The major results of this study were: (a) the most popular research area in the studies of CoP was the area of 'company management', and the second one was the area of 'school education'; (b) the most popular research theme was to analyze of the performance and the performance factors of CoPs to explore the features of actual CoPs was the second one; (c) there was a tendency to regard the 'Sponsored CoP' as a kind of CoP, that is an controversy issue still though; (d) the performance factor of CoP was a 'knowledge sharing'. Finally, the several implications for following studies related to elementary science education were discussed.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics of?children with fall-down injuries according to age groups and to analyze the major trauma groups that were treated at the emergency room (ER). Methods: Among 1,222 children under age 6 who were treated at the ER from January 2008 to December 2009, a retrospective study was conducted through examination of medical records. The children were classified by age into 3 groups: infant, toddler, and pre-schooler. In each group, the differences between the causative factors that led to the fall-down injuries were analyzed. Also, ISS (Injury Severity Score) score above 4 was classified as major trauma, and an ISS score 0-1 was classified as a minor trauma. The relationship between major trauma and age group was also analyzed. Results: Through an analysis of child fall-down injuries, men (56.6%), toddler (47.3%), head-related symptoms (72.9%), furniture-related traumas (80.2%), and falls from less than a 1-m height (69.9%) were found to be common factors. Furthermore, in radiological studies, fractures and brain hemorrhages accounted for 16.9% of major traumas, and simple skull fractures were the most common (21.4%). Distributed according to age group, the factors relevant to fall injuries were fall height and head-related symptoms for infants, accident site, fall height and head-related symptoms for toddlers, and accident site for pre-schoolers (p<0.05). Also, headrelated symptoms and fall height were independent factors of major trauma in all age groups. However, major traumas (17.3%) were related to dumped trauma, fall height and accident site (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study was mainly about head-related injuries, and toddler were most common victims. The relevant factors for the major trauma were falling height for infants, accident site and falling height for toddlers, and accident site, falling height for pre-schoolers.
