  • In this paper, the preventive maintenance strategy in operation stage of a bridge using Bayesian inference is proposed. The proposed technique can be used to predict the variation in the performance (or condition) of the bridge with higher accuracy, considering the uncertainty of monitoring. The applicability of the proposed method to the existing bridges is verified and analyzed that have an advantage in terms of maintenance cost efficiency compared to the conventional periodic maintenance system, which establishes maintenance after damage. It is expected that the proposed preventive maintenance method can be used to overcome the limitation of the conventional periodic maintenance method and to make practical bridge maintenance decision.

  • A lot of manufacturing knowledge and method have applied to increase manufacturing efficiency in industry field. DES(Discrete Event Simulation) is one of solution to deal with manufacturing problems in factory. Beginning of research, old maintenance system of KNR ( Korea National Railroad) and its technical problems are basically investigated. KNR has maintained railway vehicle with their own solution based on experience. Very advanced railway vehicles such as KTX (Korea Train Express) and TTX(Tilting Train Express) will be difficult to maintain with their old maintenance method. In order to apply knowledge of DES, maintenance field of railway must be considered. Imaginary maintenance machine are selected to variable of DES. Maintenance capability of each machine will be evaluated base on imaginary data from imaginary machine. The machine could be very expensive as well as difficult to replace. Target of research is minimization of number of machine in railway workshop. So basic knowledge of discrete event simulation is introduced. Then five essential stages of discrete event simulation are provided. Each maintenance case defined as event. Each event is discrete and simulated base on different case such as one maintenance line with one machine and one maintenance line with two machines in railway workshop. simple maintenance method, discrete event simulation, will be come out very powerful in complicate maintenance system and will be helpful to reduce maintenance cost as well as maintenance labor.

  • In South Korea, small photovoltaic equipment is increasingly adopted in more detached houses on the constant basis. With this broader use of small photovoltaic equipment, its systematic maintenance becomes all the more necessary. However, photovoltaic facility maintenance has been concentrated solely on large-scale solar energy generation plants in the country while hardly covering smaller facilities. In this research, the JEM rule and extant maintenance company services were analyzed to develop a proper maintenance model for small photovoltaic equipment. The maintenance service procedures designed herein are as follows: A small photovoltaic equipment user chooses a maintenance company and signs a contract. Once a contract is made, the Korea Energy Management Corporation provides a certain kind of incentive to the company. The company provides maintenance service to the user and receives a service fee. If such a maintenance service model is in place, small photovoltaic equipment efficiency is expected to increase and users could receive systematic maintenance services. Also the new creation of small photovoltaic equipment maintenance service would form a new market to generate more jobs for the society.

  • Maintenance open spaces and community development in large scale housing development is one of the most important issues. We(UDC) established a resident participation activity for maintenance and use open space with community development in Hachioji New Town from 1997. The purpose of this study is to establish resident participation activities for maintenance and use open space with community development in Hajichioji New Town, and to clarify the characteristics and to on sider about efficiency of the activity. We established Minamino Shizen-Juku as a methodology for maintenance and use open spaces at the same time Hachioji New Town was opened in 1997. The activity has continued by now in 2001. We conducted questionnaire survey to make sure efficiency and characteristics of the activity past three years. Minamino Shizen-Juku (nature friendly lessons) is a resident participation activity in Hachioji New Town. It was established in 1997 as soon as the new town was opened, this year is fifth since it was started. It has three objects. 1)Maintenance and use woody environment, 2) Community development, 3) Continuation and renewal native culture. And it has general course, three special courses and one extra course were established in the activity. 1) General course is an activity participated all of member. It's included farming experience in the native field and seasonal events. 2) Rice growing and woods maintenance course is rice growing and wild wood maintenance in the park as a series of annual farming activities. 3) Benefaction from farm course is started from planting spring vegetable at Mizukoshi(Leader of Minamino Shezen-Juku)'s field. There is the number of participant limit because of the area of the field. 4) Watching nature course is watching seasonal wild flowers, trees, animals and plants to know about native nature. 5) Extra program is programmed to know about native history and tradition. • This paper describes the optimization of maintenance workforce scheduling at Afam power station in Nigeria. The objective is to determine the optimum schedule to satisfy growing maintenance labour requirements with minimum cost and highest efficiency. Three alternative maintenance workforce schedules are compared. The first alternative is to continue with the traditional five-day workweek schedule currently being practiced by Afam power station maintenance line. The second alternative is to switch to a seven-day workweek schedule for the morning shift only. The third alternative is to use a seven-day workweek schedule for all three work shifts. The third alternative is chosen, as it is expected to save 11% of the maintenance labour cost.

  • Digitalization of not only non-safety but also safety-grade I &C systems with full computerized Main Control Room (MCR) is the recent trend of I&C systems of nuclear power plants (NPP) around the world, while plant maintenance has been shifting from traditional time based maintenance to condition based maintenance. In order to cope with the new trend of operation and maintenance in NPP, a concept of online distributed diagnostic system for both plant operation and maintenance has been proposed in order to further improve both the plant efficiency and the work environment of plant operation staff members by organizational learning. In this respect, the research subjects of human machine interface (HMI) for the online distributed diagnostic system are also discussed for supporting the plant personnel at both MCR and local working places in the plant by the application of advanced ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).
