  • There are many studies on the project planning, project management and quality management. The cost of the new project takes only 20% of system's lifetime resource and the costs of the maintenance and infrastructure take more than 80%, so the study on the maintenance is much more important than the study on the new project. There has been many studies on the economic life cycle of the system using it's maintenance cost, but no studies on it's infrastructure cost. This paper provides how we can adapt infrastructure cost, which takes more than 40% of system's life cycle cost, to the economic life cycle of the system and its effects on the system's economic life cycle.

  • Background: This study focuses on assessing occupational risk for the health hazards encountered during maintenance works (MW) in semiconductor fabrication (FAB) facilities. Objectives: The objectives of this study include: 1) identifying the primary health hazards during MW in semiconductor FAB facilities; 2) reviewing the methods used in evaluating the likelihood and severity of health hazards through occupational health risk assessment (OHRA); and 3) suggesting variables for the categorization of likelihood of exposures to health hazards and the severity of health effects associated with MW in FAB facilities. Methods: A literature review was undertaken on OHRA methodology and health hazards resulting from MW in FAB facilities. Based on this review, approaches for categorizing the exposure to health hazards and the severity of health effects related to MW were recommended. Results: Maintenance workers in FAB facilities face exposure to hazards such as debris, machinery entanglement, and airborne particles laden with various chemical components. The level of engineering and administrative control measures is suggested to assess the likelihood of simultaneous chemical and dust exposure. Qualitative key factors for mixed exposure estimation during MW include the presence of safe operational protocols, the use of air-jet machines, the presence and effectiveness of local exhaust ventilation system, chamber post-purge and cooling, and proper respirator use. Using the risk (R) and hazard (H) codes of the Globally Harmonized System alongside carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic classifications aid in categorizing health effect severity for OHRA. Conclusion: Further research is needed to apply our proposed variables in OHRA for MW in FAB facilities and subsequently validate the findings.

  • A study was conducted to determine the critical period of weed-free maintenance required to produce maximum soybean yields. Leaf area index(LAI). crop growth rate (CGR), and number of pods per plant were increased with extended weed-free maintenance period. Consequently, maximum soybean yields were obtained when weeds were controlled for more than six weeks, but a relatively high level of ;soybean production was attained with only two weeks of weed free maintenance.

  • Recently, the corrosion and aging of bridge structures are of great concern impractical The uncertainties of the corroded reinforced bars in concrete influence not only the safety of the bridge structures, but also the flexural strength of reinforced concrete members. This paper considers these uncertainties by providing a reliability-based framework and show that the identification of the optimum maintenance scenario is a straightforward process. This is achieved by using a computer pro망am for Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Deteriorating Structures (LCCADS). This program can consider the effects of various types of actions on the reliability index profile of a deteriorating structures.

  • This study was peformed to investigate the phase change temperature, the supercooling, the maintenance time of liquid phase and the change rate of volume of TMA 30 $wt\% clathrate compound with additives. TMA 30 $wt\% clathrate compound with additive was cooled at heat source temperature of $-6^{circ}C$. The additives are ethylene glycol and chloroform. Their concentration are 0.1$wt\% respectively. The experimental results showed that the phase change temperature was not affected by additives and this was average $5.3^{circ}C$. Also the supercooling and the maintenance time of liquid phase were decreased by additives. Especially, the average value of supercooling showed by $8.8^{circ}C$ and the maintenance time of liquid phase was by 19 minutes in the case of chloroform 0.1$wt\%. Additionally, the average change rate of volume showed by $1.26{\~}1.31\%$ according to additives and the volume was decreased by the phase change from liquid to solid.

  • This paper aims to propose a method that helps maintenance engineers to evaluate the damage states of bridge structure systems by using a Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis. It may be stated that Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis may be very useful for the systematic and rational fuzzy reliability assessment for real bridge structure systems problems because the approach is able to effectively deal with all the related bridge structural element damages in terms of the linguistic variables that incorporate systematically experts experiences and subjective judgement. This paper considers these uncertainties by providing a fuzzy reliability-based framework and shows that the identification of the optimum maintenance scenario is a straightforward process. This is achieved by using a computer program for LIFETIME. This program can consider the effects of various types of actions on the fuzzy reliability index profile of a deteriorating structures. Only the effect of maintenance interventions is considered in this study. However. any environmental or mechanical action affecting the fuzzy reliability index profile can be considered in LIFETIME. Numerical examples of deteriorating bridges are presented to illustrate the capability of the proposed approach. Further development and implementation of this approach are recommended for future research.

  • Vibration mitigation of cables or hangers is one of the crucial problems for cable supported bridges. Previous research focused on the behaviors of cable with dampers or crossties, which could help engineering community apply these mitigation devices more efficiently. However, less studies are available for hybrid applied cross-ties and dampers, especially lack of both analytical and experimental verifications. This paper studied damping and frequency of two parallel identical cables with a connection cross-tie and an attached damper. The characteristic equation of system was derived based on transfer matrix method. The complex characteristic equation was numerically solved to find the solutions. Effects of non-dimensional spring stiffness and location on the maximum cable damping, the corresponding optimum damper constant and the corresponding frequency of lower vibration mode were further addressed. System with twin small-scale cables with a cross-link and a viscous damper were tested. The damping and frequency from the test were very close to the analytical ones. The two branches of solutions: in-phase modes and the out-of-phase modes, were identified; and the two branches of solutions were different for damping and frequency behaviors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of low sodium dialysate (LSD) rather than conventional dialysate on interdialytic weight gain (IWG), blood pressure (BP), and intradialytic side-effects (ISEs) in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (HD). Methods: The study was performed in 43 patients, who were treated in the university hospital over 8 weeks. Each participant's serum sodium set point was measured using dialysate sodium 140 mEq/L during the first 4 weeks. For the next 4 weeks dialysate sodium concentrate (134,136,and138 mEq/L) was provided to each participant but only to an experimental group (EG) (n=22) based on the individual set point, although 140 mEq/L dialysate was given to all of the control group (CG) (n=21). Consequently, outcomes including IWG, BP, and ISE were evaluated. Results: In EG, difference of pre-HD SBP (p=.047) and post-HD serum sodium (p=.006) were significantly decreased compared to CG. Also, ISEs was not more frequent in EG. However, the differences were not statistically significant, IWG (kg & %), pre-HD DBP, post-HD SBP & DBP, and serum osmolality in EG. Conclusion: Individual application of LSD in patients on maintenance hemodialysis is beneficial to decrease pre-HD SBP and post-HD serum sodium without increasing ISE. Therefore, LSD can be better treatment than conventional dialysate.
