Applications of Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) in Enhancing Facility Operation and Management

  • Agent-based modeling (ABM), as a relatively new simulation technique, has recently gained in popularity in the civil engineering domain due to its uniquely advantageous features. Among many civil engineering applications, ABM has been applied to facility operation and management, such as energy consumption management, as well as the enhancement of maintenance and repair processes. The former studies used ABM to manage energy consumption through simulating human energy-related behaviors and their interactions with facilities, as well as electrical, heating, and cooling systems and appliances, while the latter used ABM to enhance maintenance process through facilitating coordination, negotiation, and decision making between facility managers, service providers, and repair workers. The present study aims to provide a short qualitative review on the most recent applications of ABM in the above-mentioned areas. Based on the review and follow-up analysis, the study identifies the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of ABM applications to facility operation and management, and offers several potential future research topics in the hope of filling the existing literature gaps.

무상수리 정책에서 응급수리 적용의 비용분석 모델 (Cost Analysis Model for Minimal Repair in Free-Replacement Policy)

  • This paper is concerned with cost analysis model in free-replacement policy. The free-replacement policy with minimal repair is considered as follows; in a manufacturer's view point operating unit is periodically replaced, if a failure occurs between minimal repair and periodic maintenance time, unit is remained in a failure condition. Also unit undergoes minimal repair at failures in minimal-repair interval. Then total expected cost is calculated according to the parameter of failure distribution in a view of consumer's. The expected costs are included repair cost and usage cost: operating, fixed, minimal repair and loss cost. Numerical example is shown in which failure time of item has weibull distribution.

뿌리산업 제조현장 체계분석 및 데이터 기반 설비보전 환경구축 (Equipment Maintenance Environment Based on Field-Data of Root Industry by Manufacturing-Field Analysis)

  • This paper describes the efficient equipment maintenance that can offer the exact time for repair and change of component in root industry. A conventional method offered the fixed time for repair and change of component because the method is based on early guarantee specification of the component. However the operating condition of manufacturing field is often under worse condition than early guarantee condition for high productivity. So, most components can't use until early guarantee time due to the operation of various different condition. Therefore we suggest the useful method for efficient equipment-maintenance by manufacturing-field analysis and feedback database. For this, the classification of root industry and related equipment is performed and then the detail classification of the process and component for equipment maintenance. And the monitoring module is also designed to gather data for feedback process and the environment is basically implemented for aging and reliability test.

  • 본 논문에서는 비 재생무료교체-수리보증이 종료된 이후의 수리가 가능한 시스템에 대한 교체정책을 제안한다. 이를 위해서, 비 재생무료교체-수리보증을 정의하고, 사용자 측면에서 비 재생무료교체-수리보증이 종료된 이후의 보전모형이 고려된다. 최적의 보전정책을 결정하기 위한 기준으로는 사용자 측면의 단위시간당 기대비용이 고려되고, 보증 기간이 종료된 이후에 발생되는 시스템의 유지비용은 사용자가 모두 지불하게 된다. 즉, 시스템의 운영기간 동안 사용자가 지불하여야 할 비용들이 주어져 있을 때, 비 재생무료교체-수리보증이 종료된 이후의 최적의 보전주기를 결정한다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서 제안된 보존정책을 설명하기 위해서 수치적 예를 살펴본다.

  • Advanced EMU have been enhanced in terms of safe transport and maintainability. It is a new urban railway technology that enables an operation institution to cut repair and maintenance costs and customers to use convenient service at lower costs based on IT technology. If a development vehicle of Advanced EMU is completed, it will be used to test the entire advanced EMU system through sufficient performance check and reliability check prior to operation in commercial line. It will also verify efficiency, safety, punctuality and energy efficiency of transport. Accordingly, it is necessary to figure how to repair and maintain vehicles to enhance safety of Advanced EMU system in cooperation with operation during the period of comprehensive evaluation on the operation of a development vehicle in a test line. In this paper, we investigated the maintenance program of Advanced EMU on test operation in Dabul line. The test condition and operation environment of Advanced EMU in Daebul line was analyzed.

  • This study proposes a standard method of diagnosis and repair to prevent and maintain the problem of durability deterioration caused by leakage cracks in apartment basement structures in Korea. Following the announcement of the previous maintenance plan section, this is the second part of the study, focusing on inspection of methods for diagnosing and repairing leakage cracks in apartment basement structures. In this thesis, the matters required for the procedures, types, times and equipment of the inspection plan and the inspection methods, records, and decisions required for the actual inspection are described.

  • As it recently appears that Life Cycle Cost Analysis may be considered as new methodology for economic valuation of infrastructure many researches have been made to assess LCC(Life Cycle Cost) of each facility based on a reasonable methods. In general, LCC is composed of construction cost and expected maintenance repair cost. And especially, maintenance repair cost must be estimated to enhance the reliability through systematic and reasonable methods. However in Korea, because high speed railway steel bridges are recently constructed no direct statistical data are available for the account of the maintenance cost and then their maintenance characteristics are not linear yet. Therefore, the approach proposed in the paper utilizes a theoretical determination and degradation of the corrosion and fatigue of the bridges based on Rahgozar et al.(2006)'s model on fatigue notch factor considering into the corrosion to incorporate the corrosion effect into the fatigue strength reduction model. And then, the corresponding probability of failure is calculated in terms of the reliability index using S-N curve to formulate the fatigue limit state. Therefore, this paper proposes the minimum Life Cycle Cost through optimum maintenance plan analysis of high-speed railway steel bridges under construction. Finally, this paper reviews the proposed model in oder to confirm the applicability and feasibility by appling it to high speed railway steel bridges under construction

가철성 의치의 유지관리 (Maintenance care for removable denture)

  • There are many kinds of maintenance care services for removable denture patient. Adjustment of the denture base and occlusion should be performed regularly not only for pain relief but also for maintaining the denture function. Direct and indirect relining are needed frequently in specific cases including mandibular distal extension case or non-symmetric residual teeth situation. Surface treatments for metal and resin are essential in the relining procedure. Clinical process for the denture repair is similar to indirect relining which needs inter-occlusal registration. Especially, the peridontal maintenance care and caries prevention are most important way to preserve the abutment teeth in partial edentulism. Moreover, the caring method for the denture and the tissue should be instructed to the denture patient.

  • This study presents the standard methods of diagnosis and repair to prevent and maintain the durability degradation caused by leakage cracks in underground structures in Korea. The third part after the announcement of the existing maintenance plan, The environmental characteristics and leakage condition of underground structures, the causes of deterioration of underground concrete structures, and countermeasures and leakage equipment were described.

  • 많은 공동주택의 공급에도 불구하고 정부의 정책은 주택의 건설, 공급위주로 주택정책을 시행함에 따라 주택의 유지관리 측면에서는 소홀히 하여왔다. 그 결과로써 주택자원의 이용과 주거생활에 불편을 초래하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 현행제도와 현 조사실태의 수선주기를 비교, 분석하여 개선방안을 제시하고 있다. 분석 결과 적정시기의 적합한 수선을 하는 것이 장기적으로 볼 때 건물 노후화를 늦출 수 있고 건물의 기능을 초기와 비슷하게 유지시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 효율적인 수선 유지 관리를 통하여 건물의 노후화와 기능을 지연시킬 수 있을 것이다.
