Design Process of Fixing Pipe in Guide Pipe-Anchor System for Cable-Stayed Bridge (사장교 가이드 파이프 앵커 형식에서의 정착강관 설계절차)

  • These days, many cable-stayed bridges were constructed in accordance with the trend in Korea. At the moment, construction technology of cable-stayed bridges has been remarkably developed but design technology still relies upon foreign technology very much. The cable anchor system that is one of key technologies of cable-stayed bridge brings powerful cable tension to produce local stress concentration and to disturb stress seriously, so for safety must be designed by a local detailed analysis is required. But without a clear design standard or design theory relying on F.E.M, and engineers don't understand theoretical basic mechanism of cable anchor system. As a result, engineers can be lose their judgement. Accordingly, this study examined theoretical design flow of fixing pipe in guide pipe-anchor system and additional considerations, in accordance with design standards at home and abroad to keep them in order and to suggest supplementary design flow.

An Improvement of the State Assessment for Concrete Floor Slab by Damage Type Breakdown (손상유형 분할에 의한 콘크리트 바닥판의 상태평가 개선)

  • The direct inspection of the outward aspects by field engineers is the important and critical part for structural safety assessment according to the related reports. This study presents an improved method of the state assessment for concrete floor slab by separating and evaluating the individual damage types. First, the various types of damage symptoms are separated, which have been included and dealt in a group. Secondly, they are weighted and scored independently based on the present guide and references. Overall procedures other than the above are retained as same as possible to avoid the confusion. The proposed method is applied and tested to a performed assessment project for a bridge for validation. The result shows that it is reasonable and applicable in respect that it is able to make up for the controversial points of the present guide revealed in practices. Careful check of excessively deteriorated parts in addition to the reasonable assessment of system by this method grants the structural repair and reinforcement propriety and economy, and assures of more safety. Twofold appraisal of this approach expands the applicable areas of value engineering to the structural maintenance.

  • In this paper, A calculating cost method of maintenance and repair for bridge which is built up by new construction technique named Up-Down Precast Concrete(UDPSC). After 2000, 109 Bridges which are using UDPSC technique have been built up, 37 bridges's construction work are processing, and 194 designs are presented for construction. Because this technology has developed recently, there are few field data for analyzing the maintenance and repair cost. Therefore, the maintenance and repair cost is computed using Construction and Transportation Ministry's guide line for computation and former research's data.

  • In apartment type of housing, if resident's vehicle is registered in central control office and RFID TAG is issued, identification can be recognized from the time of entrance into parking lot and intelligent parking guide system can be activated based on the residents' profile. Parking Guide System leads a vehicle to the available parking space which is closest to the entrance gate of the vehicle's owner. And when residents forget where they parked their cars, they can query to the Parking Guide and Management System and get responses about the location. For the correct operation of this system, it is necessary to find out where the residents' cars have parked in real time and which lot is available for parking of other cars. RFID is very fancy solution for this system. RFID reader gathers the ID information in RFID TAGs in parked cars and updates the DB up to date. But, when non-residents' cars are parked inside apartment, RFID reader cannot identify them nor know the exact empty/occupied status of parking spaces because they don't react to RFID reader's query. So for the exact detection of empty/occupied status, we suggest the combined use of ultrasonic sensors and RFID. We designed a tree topology with intermediate data aggregators. The depth of tree is normally more than 3 from root (central office) to leaves (individual parking lots). The depth of 2 in tree topology brings about the bottleneck in communication and maintenance. We also designed the information fields used in RFID networks and Sensor Networks.

A Suggestion for Improved Road Signs Providing Efficient Road Information (효율적인 도로정보 제공을 위한 도로표지판 개선방안 제시)

  • PURPOSES : While road networks are becoming increasingly complex, traffic signs are being indiscriminately installed and operated, which makes drivers who depend on traffic signs to reach their destination confused and unable to understand road information efficiently. In order to promptly and exactly guide road users to their destinations, traffic signs should be able to satisfy the functions of connectivity, visibility, and location suitability. However, the results of a site survey shows that most of the traffic signs currently installed in the Jeollanam-do Province do not satisfy these functions. METHODS : This study analyzed the problems of traffic signs after an actual site survey and focused on a total on 9,353 traffic signs and 70 road routes in Jeollanam-do Province. RESULTS : This study analyzed the problems of traffic signs based on their required functions (connectivity, visibility, suitability) and suggested improvements by establishing a guide system that considered the problems found in the study. CONCLUSIONS : The guide system can be utilized as a basic material that provides efficient road information for future installation and maintenance of traffic signs in Jeollanam-do Province.

  • Protective coatings at nuclear power plants should be designed to withstand exposure to ambient conditions during normal operation or design-basis accidents. However, there was a change in the perception of the protective coating to the revision of the Regulatory Guidelines by the NRC in July 2000. In other words, maintenance guidelines have been strengthened in order to minimize the clogging of the cooling water system due to the substances in the containment building. Therefore, KHNP, the contractor and operator of the nuclear power plant, plans to develop the coating system for nuclear power plants in accordance with the regulation, and plans to develop its own coating expert.

  • Recently, immersive VR/AR contents have actively increased, and various services related to VR/AR allow users to experience remote places. For example, if failure situations occur frequently in factory of the remote site, mixed reality (MR) with a synthetic virtual human expert in reconstructed remote location can help immediate maintenance task with interaction between the operator and the virtual expert. In this paper, we present a technique for synthesizing the virtual human after capturing a 360-degree panorama of a remote environment, and analyze the effects to apply a method of guiding virtual human by interaction types. According to this paper, it was shown that co-presence level significantly increased when verbal, facial expression, and non-verbal animation of the virtual human was all expressed.

  • Lifetime Health Maintenance Program(LHMP) for Koreans is the Korean guide to clinical preventive services which include screening for chronic diseases, counseling and immunization. The Korean Task Force on the LHMP vigorously reviews evidence for interventions to prevent over 50 different illnesses and conditions which are important in Korea. The problems addressed in this program are common ones seen every day by primary care physicians in Korea: cardiovascular, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases, cancers, alcohol and smoking, and many others. Primary care clinicians have a key role in screening for many of these problems and immunizing against others. Of equal importance, however, is the clinician's role in counseling patients to change unhealthful behaviors related to diet, smoking, exercise, injuries, and sexually transmitted diseases. The recommendations are grouped by age, sex, and other risk factors.

  • Recently, the number of high-rise buildings has been on the rise, which has meant that maintenance cost has increased by two and three times, along with the increase in the construction cost. It is suggested that the use of an auto-cleaning robot could increase the productivity and safety of cleaning work, which is mostly done outside of a building. In particular, the guide rail on a high-rise building could be useful in this capacity, as it has the advantage of not being significantly influenced by factors of the external environment, including wind pressure. For this reason, this research is preliminary research into a cleaning automation for a high-rise building, and aims to draw up a scenario for the vertically moving robot.

  • Prototyping for field inspection safety assessment expert system of bridge structures is presented in this paper. Knowledgebase with production rules is constructed using the semiautomatic method on the basis of bridge inspection manuals and working reports of the related agency. Backward inference method is taken with the aids of external shells as a inference engine of knowledge-based systems. Implementation of the developed prototype system on MS Windows98 will shows inspiring aspects useful to guide and standardize the field works. In the case to be reinforced with abundant knowledge bases, this will be expected to be educate the practicing engineers.
