  • In this paper, a PMS(Pavement Management System) application is presented to control the LCC(Life Cycle Cost) of road pavement. The aim of this paper is to provide the decision makers with the planning information regarding maintenance strategies for efficient road pavement management. The validity of PMS application presented in this paper is investigated through case studies for conducted for 22 national highway road sections in Korea.

  • The proportion of maintenance work has been increasing due to the recent aging of the infrastructure, but the standardized construction cost estimation standards are insufficient for this. In particular, reinforced concrete structures are being applied to many structures such as buildings and bridges, and various construction methods for maintenance of reinforced concrete structures are being developed and applied. In this study, we surveyed about the current status of the construction method for the maintenance work of reinforced concrete structures and analyze the factors of the revision of the construction cost estimate standard for the reinforced concrete structure maintenance.

  • Several research institutes including KISTEC and KRRI etc., recently, have studied maintenance activities and performance, in order to determine proper maintenance level and maintenance cost of rail tracks. But it may extremely difficult to make a decision in maintenance matters of concrete track and ballast containing other sub-components. For these reasons, this study investigate variables related to current maintenance, essential maintenance, and preventive maintenance. It is intended to suggest estimation method of proper maintenance cost maximizing rail track performance. It is stated that proposed approach may be very useful to make a decision of proper maintenance level. Typical section of rail track is applied for calculation of life cycle cost according to each maintenance strategy. A proper profile for maintenance is determined minimum life cycle

  • An estimation of economic life for a new weapon system is a critical issue in aquisition process. In general a life cycle cost consists of, development cost, aquisition cost, and maintenance cost. These costs are not identified and obtained in the beginning of the aquisition process. This paper deals with an economic life for KlAl tank which is being deployed recently, using PRICE model. In order to estimate an KlAl economic life, we use equivalent annual cost method which is sum of capital recovering with return and equivalent O&M cost method. This method determines an economic life by minimizing annual investment cost and operation and maintenance cost. In this paper, an aquisition cost of KlAl is obtained from PRICE H and O&M cost from PRICE HL model. We obtained various results depending upon production quantity. An economic life for KlAl is estimated 18 years when 300 tanks are produced.

  • In cost estimation of construction, several methods including quantity-per-unit costing, job costing, unit cost estimation and lumpsum estimation are being utilized in Korea. Among them, a Quantity-per-unit Costing Method is used as a standard of cost estimation in public and private works. This paper presents the realistic job-costing method on all road construction tasks through statistical analyses with field survey data to solve the problems induced by the existing quantity-per-unit costing method. Furthermore, it was found that the newly developed job costing method is able to produce a simple costing procedure and a more actual construction cost estimation by a case study, which was performed to compare particular construction costs produced by two different methods, existing quantity-per-unit costing and newly developed job costing. These methods is compared by Case-study about sub-base. In the case of Job costing method, the estimate is shorter than the other case about 50% and can make up for the weak point about instrument in the current Standard of cost estimation. And it can be depict by Job Costing method about progress of work for using by a plan about construction management.

  • In today's building industry the emphasis has been geared more towards construction, thus building maintenance and life cycle have been neglected until now. A direct result of this neglect is the rapid aging of building, which leads to more cost-effective decision making methods for the prolongation of building life span. The following study is conducted in the area of Daegu and Seoul in order to develop the estimation analysis method of the annual operation cost of the Korean high-rise condominiums for the cost-effective decision making support through mathematical and statistical analyses including the present value and standardized measurement corrections. Based on the assumption that the life expectancy of the high rise condominium is 50 years, initial cost is ₩421,212/$m^2$, and a total sum of yearly operation cost during life expectancy is ₩2,154,499//$m^2$), yearly accumulated operation cost is shown as below: $AOC=0.7097t^4-38.803t^3+806.95t^2+11045t-496.52$ ($R^2=0.98$) (Here, AOC = Accumulated Operation Cost, t = given years)

  • It is focused on a methodology to establish a optimal inspection cycle of electrical facility of railroad Decision method of optimal inspection cycle is a process which establishes maintenance plan for facilities' immanent function as using reliability theory in operation term In order to ensure normal operation in a given condition, the decision method is logical for selecting effective maintenance plan to consider characteristic of system In estimation of failure rate, critical facility is selected firstly. After that, proper distribution function on each facility is decided to investigate distribution function for extraction of failure rate. Next, cost produced by the case that facility's failure is occurred is surveyed. Finally, maintenance method developed until now is investigated, before suitable model for the facility applying maintenance method is developed, and that maintenance decision is made. Therefore, this process is the method to find optimal inspection cycle for reasonable cost and effective reliability on facility.

  • Educational facilities are more uncertain about maintenance costs due to their comprehensive and long life-cycle compared to commercial buildings. In addition, maintenance of the existing post management system can not maintain the original function of education facilities continuously and economically. In order to overcome this problem, it is necessary to analyze the repair and replacement cost for the uncertainty factor in maintenance. This study propose a model to determine repair and maintenance cost and cycle of educational facility based on probabilistic estimation concept. For the analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, a probabilistic analysis method, was applied based on the repair and maintenance history data of the educational facilities in Florida. The results of this study can be used as a guideline for quantitative facility management and facility management research.

  • For a successful construction project not only construction engineering and project management technology but also economic evaluation technique is required. Design and construction technologies are necessary to receive a project order. However, construction management technology which can be apply from the project initial phase to the project operation and management phase is required to create a benefit from the project. Construction management technology is one of the effective factors for project success. Economical and efficient cost management from the planning phase influences the project success. This study investigated cost flow and cost factors of domestic Sewage Treatment Plant project for systematic analysis of cost items following the entire project phase. Particularly, data modeling based on domestic Sewage Treatment Equipment maintenance cost DB was performed, and maintenance cost estimation trend line is suggested using Monte carlo Simulation Method to decrease uncertainty of actual results DB and for feasibility study.   • LCC analysis is a method that coordinates with function evaluation for value improvement, rather than a separate one for cost evaluation. Although its accuracy is rising, materials and structural types developed or applied relatively recently have yet to obtain a sufficient maintenance profile DB, inducing reliability to reduce from difficulties in estimating maintenance records. Based on the above mentioned background, this paper presents the LCC methodology of coordinating functional intensification matters with cost for analysis on alternatives with difficulties in setting maintenance profile. Recently, steel plate bridge deck pavements are faced with problems such as plastic deformation due to the increase in heavy vehicles and traffic, promoting the development of a new compound pavement. This paper execute LCC analysis by mentioning case studies of SMA, Guss and PSMA pavements to include performance scale compared between alternatives as relative evaluation coefficients into the maintenance profile.
