For this study, a mixed method design including quantitative survey method and qualitative in-depth interview were utilized. First, through quantitative survey method, the perception on significant skills of students with ID for gaining and maintaining employment was investigated. At the same time, to overcome the limitation of a quantitative survey study, in-depth interviews with special school teachers were implemented. Through in-depth interviews, difficulties keeping students with ID from maintaining employment and significant skills for gaining & maintaining employment were investigated. Many students with ID have had difficulties in maintaining their employment for reasons such as behavioral problems, lack of social skills, or lack of diligence. Thus, many special teachers perceived the importance of educating the significant skills for maintaining their employment as well as gaining employment. For successful vocational transition, daily living skills, occupational skills, and personnel-social skills are significant. However, students' personal-social skills are more important than daily living skills and occupational skills. Among personal-social skills, students' sincerity, diligence, good-hearted personality, social skills, and ability for following directions of a supervisor are significant characteristics for gaining and maintaining employment.

  • The current study investigates the relationship and the mechanisms between bridge employment and change in marital satisfaction during midlife, using a three-wave panel dataset obtained from the Korean Baby Boomer Panel Study. A multivariate latent growth analysis reveals that the transition from career employment to bridge employment, compared to maintaining career employment, has an indirect negative effect on increase rate of marital satisfaction through the wage decrease. A steep decrease in wage following transition to bridge employment causes a lower increase in marital satisfaction. On the other hand, continuously engaging in bridge employment rather than career employment is associated with a higher increase in marital satisfaction via a higher increase in job commitment. This result implies that Baby Boomers adapt to bridge employment over time. Overall, the present study finds that the effect of bridge employment on the change in marital satisfaction during midlife varies with the duration of bridge employment. A future research needs to explore which factors can buffer the negative effect of decrease in wage during transition to the bridge employment on the change in marital satisfaction.

These significant factors which affected job attention were consistent with the results from previous studies, and should be considered when designing and constructing an effective career and vocational education program for young adults with intellectual disabilities.

It is necessary to study the necessity-driven factors for entrepreneurship such as employment barriers and job dissatisfaction. This study focused on the fact that the majority of cultural artists are freelancers or self-employed entrepreneurs. For those who majored in culture and arts, this study was conducted to investigate how an individual's internal and external environment affects the entrepreneurial intention considering the theory of planned behavior. I explored the factors that led individuals to choose entrepreneurial intention between employment and entrepreneurship, and studied the relationship between these factors and the entrepreneurial intention. As the result of the study, the job dissatisfaction and the employment barriers were the pressure factors for entrepreneurship. Job satisfaction had a negative effect on the entrepreneurial outcome expectation and the entrepreneurial intention. The perceived employment barrier had a positive effect on the entrepreneurial outcome expectation and the entrepreneurial intention. An individual's risk-taking orientation is one of the entrepreneurship and had the positive effect on the entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The entrepreneurial outcome expectation and the entrepreneurial self-efficacy had a positive effect on the entrepreneurial intention.

  • This study was conducted to help develop women's human resources and promote married women's return to workforce. Using various data, we examined the patterns of Korean women's economic activities over the lifecycle, career discontinuation and return to the workforce. We also interviewed twenty full-time housewives who wanted to return to workforce. The interview questions included reasons for seeking employment, desired working conditions, and difficulties in finding a job. Major findings are as follows: First, there were two groups with respect to reasons why they want employment One was an economic need such as earning basic living expenses and supporting the family. The other was self-realization and social participation. Second most women wanted to do unskilled labor such as housekeeping work, whereas some young or well-educated women looked for a professional job. Third, married women preferred part-time jobs, which were compatible with their family care demands. Most of them wanted a workplace located close to home. The women with child-care responsibility preferred working at home. Fourth, regarding difficulties of returning to workforce, they pointed out vocational ability problems due to their career discontinuation, social prejudice such as gender discrimination and psychological pressure in maintaining work and family at the same time. In order to promote employment of married women, it is required not only to change social prejudices but also to increase effectiveness in policy implementation. In addition, counseling for job-search and vocational ability training programs should be provide.
