Ordination has been recognized useful method to analyze the effects of multiple environmental factors on dozens of species in vegetation ecology because of summarizing community data by producing a low-dimensional graphics. Main objective of this study was the application of ordination method, especially principal components analysis (PCA), to analyze the soil characterization on paddy treated by different green manure crops and tillage methods. Treatments included the three tillage treatments and two green manure crops as the following; (i) moldrotary + rotary tillage without green manure crop (Con), with (ii) hairy vetch (ConHv), and (iii) hairy vetch + green barely (ConHvGb), (iv) rotary tillage without green manure crop (Rot), with (v) hairy vetch (RotHv), and (vi) hairy vetch + green barly (RotHvGb), and (vii) no-tillage (Notill). Vectorial distance result from PCA of soil properties including physical, chemical, and microbial properties showed the two main difference. Firstly, soil properties among plots without green manure were strongly affected by tillage strength [Vectorial distance: Con-Notil (5.88) > Rot-Notill (4.58)] at PC1 (35.0%) axis. But it was difficult to find the fixed trend among plots when green manure crop was added in plot. Nevertheless, two groups were separated by adding green manure crop at PC2 (29.2%) axis. These results show that PCA ordination methods could be used the research for change of soil characterization.

A study was conducted to determine the effects of maturity at harvest and wilting days on the quality of round baled rye (Secale cereale L.) silage. This study was a $3{\times}3$ factorial arrangement in a split plot design with 3 replicates. The main plot was 3 harvesting dates at the stage of boot (20 Apr.), heading (29 Apr.) and flowering (14 May). The subplot was wilting day : 0 (unwilted), 0.5 and 1 day (0, 1, and 2 days at boot stage). Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents of rye silage were significantly greater than those of rye before ensiling, but crude protein (CP) content and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) were vice versa. Buffering capacity (BC) of rye harvested at flowering stage was decreased from 264 to 202 meq/kg at 1 day wilting, however, it was increased when harvested at boot or heading stage. The pH in wilted silage was the highest while that of flowering stage was the lowest. Water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content of wilting rye was lower than that of unwilted, and the lowest at late harvesting stage. All plots had minimal WSC content for silage fermentation. Wilting treatment and delayed harvesting date caused an increase in dry matter (DM) content of round bale silage. The content of ammonia-N expressed as a portion of total N showed negative correlation with DM content. High quality silage according to ammonia-N content could be obtained from mid-harvest with wilting. There were highly significant differences in each organic acid between harvesting dates and wilting periods. Acetic and butyric acid contents were increased with delayed harvesting and prolonged wilting period, the lactic acid content, however, was decreased. This study demonstrated that harvest of rye from heading to flowering stage with wilting would be a recommendable method for making high quality rye silage using round bale system.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the application rate of fermented swine manure and additional mineral fertilizer on productivity and nutritive value of corn(Zea mays L.) for silage. Swine manures used in this study were the compost of swine manure fermented with sawdust(SMFWS) and swine sluny(SS). This study was arranged in split-split plot design. Main plots were the types of swine manure, subplots were the application rate of swine manure, such as 100, 200 and 400kgN/ha, and sub-subplots were the application rate of mineral fertilizer, such as 50 and 100kgNiha. Corn DM(dry matter) and TDN(tota1 digestible nutrient) yields increased as application rate of SMFWS and SS increased. DM and TDN yields in SS treatments were higher than those in SMFWS treatments. The effect of fermented swine manure improved positively as application rate of urea increased. Net energy for lactation(NE1) and TDN content in corn decreased as application rate of SMFWS and SS increased, but crude protein(CP) content increased by the application of SMFWS and SS. NE, and TDN contents in SMFWS treatments were lower than those in SS treatments, but CP content in SMFWS was higher than that in SS. The growth and nutritive value of corn were improved by the application of mineral fertilizer. (Key words : Swine manure, Swine sluury, Compost, Zea may, TDN, Net energy)

To establish the recycling system of animal manure(AM) for environmental preservation and improve the utilization of AM, this study was to investigate the effects of the types and nitrogen application rate of AM on herbage productivity, efficiency of nitrogen utilization, nutritive value and an increase of soil fertility and in mixed grassland. This sudy was arranged in split plot design. Main plots were the types of AM(Cattle feedlot manure, CFM; Pig manure fermented with sawdust, PMFS; cattle sluny, CS) and subplots were the application rate of animal manure, such as 100, 200 and 300kgNiha. I. DM yields of herbage were the highest with CS and decreased by application over ZOOkgNiha AM. 2. Crude protein(CP) ontent was the highest with CFM and followed by CS, and the lowest with PMFS, and increased as application rate of AM increased. 3. Nitrogen(N) yields of CS treatment was higher than that of CFM and CS. and increased significantly as application rate of AM increased(P<0.05). 4. The contents of NDF, ADF and TDN was hardly influenced by the types and application rate of AM. 5. Organic matter(0M) content in the soil was the highest with PMFS and followed by CFM and the lowest with CS. OM content increased significantly as application rate of AM increased(P<0.05). 6. Total nitrogen content of the soil was not affected by the type of AM, but increased significantly as application rate of AM increased(P<0.05). This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of harvesting date and additives on the quality of fall sown oat(Avena sativa L.) silage at the department of animal resources science, college of life resources science, Woosuk University, Wanju &om August, 1997 to March, 1998. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replications. The main plots consisted of the harvesting date such as 15 Oct., 23 Oct. and 2 Nov. and different additives as subplots(control, wheat bran, formic acid, lactic acid bacteria, and wilting). The results otained are summarized as follow : The fiesh and dry matter yield of oat were increased by harvesting date delayed, then fiesh and dry matter yield at 2 Nov. were highest as 36,733 and 7,29Okg/ha, respectively. The dry matter content of oat silage was increased significantly by harvesting date delayed(P< 0.05), and DM content of wheat bran and wilting treatment was high at every harvest date. The DM loss was lower in LAB, formic acid and wheat bran treatment, but on significant difference was found among harvesting date(P< 0.05). Average pH of silage harvested at 23 Oct. was lowest as 4.06, and the quality(CP, NDF, ADF, and IVMDM) of oat silage was decreased by harvesting date delayed. The content of acetic acid was no difference among harvesting date, but butyric acid was decreased and lactic acid was increased at 23 Oct. harvest. The result of this study indicate that oat harvested at booting-heading stage of maturity with wilting wheat bran, and LAB could be recommended as producing high quality of oat silage.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of potassium and sulfur power levels on the growth, nutrients' uptake at different growing stage and seed yield of peanut plant and changes of soil chamical properties in a sandy peanut cultivated soil of Nak-dong riverside in 1984. 1. The length of main stem, that of branch NO. and NO. of branches per plant were increased by the increased application of potassium and sulfur powdar. Especially sulfur powder treated plot were shown in positive effect with obtained in main root length, NO. of roots and Wt. of noudles formed per plant, roots' weight of peanut plant was much more than top's Wt. at harvesting stage, and so ratio of dry matter Wt. top/root was low. 2. The noudle's Wt. formed was positively significant recognized with dry matter Wt. of peanut plant at harvesting stage and the treatments of potassium were increased 7-20% compared with potassium non-treated plot and sulfur's treatments were increased 4-13% than that of potassium 15kg/10a treatment which was sulfur's non-treated plot in seed yield. 3. Relationship between all nutrients' uptake at flowering stage and seed yield were positively significant recognized, but $P_2O_5$ uptake and N/S ratio showed negative effect at harvesting stage of peanut plant. 4. By the increase of potassium and sulfur powder application, the soil pH at two different stages were almost not differential and the content of K, $P_2O$ and $SO_4$ in soil and $SO_4/P_2O_5$ ratio were increasing tendency.
It has widely been observed that the effect of elevating atmospheric $CO_2$ concentrations on rice productivity depends largely on soil N availabilities. However, the responses of ammonia volatilization from flooded paddy soil that is an important pathway of N loss and thus affecting fertilizer N availability to concomitant increases in atmospheric $CO_2$ and temperature has rarely been studied. In this paper, we first report the interactive effect of elevated $CO_2$ and temperature on ammonia volatilization from rice paddy soils applied with urea. Urea labeled with $^{15}N$ was used to quantitatively estimate the contribution of applied urea-N to total ammonia volatilization. This study was conducted using Temperature Gradient Chambers (TGCs) with two $CO_2$ levels [ambient $CO_2$ (AC), 383 ppmv and elevated $CO_2$ (EC), 645 ppmv] as whole-plot treatment (main treatment) and two temperature levels [ambient temperature (AT), $25.7^{\circ}C$ and elevated temperature (ET), $27.8^{\circ}C$] as split-plot treatments (sub-treatment) with triplicates. Elevated temperature increased ammonia volatilization probably due to a shift of chemical equilibrium toward $NH_3$ production via enhanced hydrolysis of urea to $NH_3$ of which rate is dependent on temperature. Meanwhile, elevated $CO_2$ decreased ammonia volatilization and that could be attributed to increased rhizosphere biomass that assimilates $NH_4^+$ otherwise being lost via volatilization. Such opposite effects of elevated temperature and $CO_2$ resulted in the accumulated amount of ammonia volatilization in the order of ACET>ACAT>ECET>ECAT. The pattern of ammonia volatilization from applied urea-$^{15}N$ as affected by treatments was very similar to that of total ammonia volatilization. Our results suggest that elevated $CO_2$ has the potential to decrease ammonia volatilization from paddy soils applied with urea, but the effect could partially be offset when air temperature rises concomitantly.

Bupleurum falcatum is one of the oldest medicinal crop spontaneously generated as well as cultivated by man and successfully grown during the summer season in Korea. This study was conducted to examine the effect of planting density in the row spacing and hill spacing system using machine seeder on major agronomic traits, yield and labor saving. In 1993 and 1994, a spilt plot design was used with row spacing as the main plot and hill spacing as subplot. Labor saving efficency of the machine seeder reduced 96% than the hand seeding in sowing time required. Number of seeding stand increased, but stem height and number of nodes did not affect with different density in each row and hill spacing. There were reduced with narrow hill spacing on stem diameter, number of branches, shoot weight and root traits. There was no significant interaction between row and hill spacing for any major traits studied except shoot weight. Yield was more increase at 20cm than at 30cm row spacing. For these studies the optiomum density appears to be between drilling or 5cm hill spacing with 20cm row spacing. A highly significant positive correlation was appeared between number of seedling stand and root yield.
1. Through out the entire stage of growth, the amount of nutrients, number of tillers and of spikes increased in the Simagcalin treated plot as compared with the control. The treated plot showed healthul growth at the later growing stage. On the other hand, management of irrigation water resulted in raised the grain straw ratio and retarded the culm height about 10%. 2. Application of Simagcalin greatly increased the content of phosphorus and magnesium at the harvesting time. The culm and sheath analyses are recommendable for the determination of magnesium deficiency. 3. The controled irrigation would effect root activity as the main factor, and Simagcalin might act as a secondary factor. 4. While the application of phosphorus may not affect the yield components, The basic elements in Simagcalin may enhance the uptake of nutrients under heavy application of nitrogn.
The measures of contour-terracing with sod has been executed as a major measures for hillside erosion control works for a long time in Korea. It is, however, recognized that pair terracings make a new slope-face having the more steeper degree of slope between the upper and the lower terraces on hillsides and it also does not contribute for establishing the natural vegetation-cover by penetration of pioneer seeds on the slope faces or cut-faces of hillsides. The study was therefore conducted in connection with the above problems on the cut-face having slope of $40^{\circ}$ and 1.6 meter in slope length with clay soils. Plot allocation for the experiment consists of 3 kinds of 3 replica plots having each $1.6m^2$ of slope area, i. e., the control plot with direct seeding on slopes only ($T_1$), the covering plot with the straw-mats after seeding on slopes ($T_2$) and the seeding plot after covering with the straw-mats. ($T_3$). The main results obtained may be summarized as follows : 1. Effects of the straw-mat mulchings on surface soil loss control:-The total amount of soil losses from each treatments are measured as 4,651 gr from $T_1$, 163 gr. from $T_2$ and 2,891 gr. from $T_3$ treatment respectively. (Refer to table No. 2, 3 and 4). In short, it is recognized that effect of $T_2$ treatment is compared as 28.5 times than that of $T_1$ treatment and 17.7 times than that of $T_3$ treatment respectively. Effect of $T_3$ treatment compared with $T_1$ treatment is also such recognizable as 1.6 times in control of surface soil losses on a slope face. 2. Effect of the straw-mat mulchings on soil moisture content on slopes; -Average per cent of surface soil moisture content by treatments show as 21.60 at the $T_1$, 23.04 at the $T_2$ and 22.21 at the $T_3$ treatment respectively and that of subsurface soil moisture content by treatment show as 23.81 at the $T_1$, 26.16 at the $T_2$ and 24.81 at the $T_3$ treatment respectively. The variance of soil moisture content by treatments was highly significant (Refer table No. 7, 8 and 9). 3. Effect of the straw-mat mulchings on vegetation establishment;-Average numbers of germination by treatments are counted as 237 Nos. at the $T_1$, 246 Nos. at the $T_2$ and 262 Nos. at the $T_3$ treatment plots and the vegetation coverage on ground was almost same as about 90% of covers in all treatments. This effect is more or less lower than that of surface soil erosion control. 4. Regarding the effect on surface soil erosion control, the straw-mat mulchings would be effective as a new measures for control of soil erosion on erosion susceptible lands such slope-faced bare-lands as cut-fill faces, mass-movement faces and bare hillsides.
