This study has been made to execute a research in order to lead the improvement of indoor air quality, examining the indoor ventilation characteristics by using a numerical analysis method. To this end an extensive parametric investigation are made according to various external flow variables such as main wind direction and wind speed by season, building layout design, and location of ventilators, etc. in Daedeok Techno Valley, one of large-scaled apartment in Daejeon. It is observed there was a significant difference of main wind direction between summer and winter. The main wind direction in summer was a south wind, and on the contrary the direction in winter is northnorthwest, which is similar to the average main wind direction for 10 years. One of the important calculation results is that the change of wind direction causes a significant effect on the apartment ventilation by the change of pressure difference around each complex of apartment. In case of favorable area of ventilation, the indoor ventilation rate can meet 0.7 ACH from the standard value only with natural ventilation. On the contrary, in other area the value was much lower than the standard value. If the calculation result applies to the design of layout apartment or placement of ventilators, it will be greatly helpful to the energy saving because it can be parallel with the natural ventilation to help securing ventilation rate, not much depending on the mechanical ventilation.

In this study, we performed a sensitivity analysis to see how the true north error of a wind direction vane installed to a meteorological mast affects predictions of the annual-average wind speed and the annual energy production. For this study, two meteorological masts were installed with a distance of about 4km on the ridge in complex terrain and the wind speed and direction were measured for one year. Cross predictions of the wind speed and the AEP of a virtual wind turbine for two sites in complex terrain were performed by changing the wind direction from $-45^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$with an interval of $5^{\circ}$. A commercial wind resource prediction program, WindPRO, was used for the study. It was found that the prediction errors in the AEP caused by the wind direction errors occurred up to more than 20% depending on the orography and the main wind direction at that site.

Wind load characteristics is investigated for vibration analysis of wind turbine gearbox. A normal wind model assumed, of which the wind velocity is increased according to the height from ground. A blast wind model is assumed, of which the maximum velocity is located at the center and the velocity profile is normally distributed. The periodical torque and bending moments transmitted to the main shaft of wind turbine are investigated. The average values and the harmonic terms of the transmitted moments are studied on the wind direction of range $-45^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ and the bending moment characteristics are examined, which is regarded as the main source of the misalignment of gear train.
In the desert and Gobi regions with strong wind and large sediment discharge, sand transporting engineering is more effective than sand blocking and sand fixing measures in sand prevention. This study uses the discrete phase model of 3D numerical simulation to study the motion trail, motion state and distribution rule of sand particles with different grain diameters when the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row lateral transportation sand barrier and the wind direction changes, and conducts a comparison in combination with the wind tunnel test and the flow field rule of common sand barrier. According to the comparison, when wind-sand incoming flow passes through a feather-row sand barrier, sand particles slow down and deposit within the deceleration area under the resistance of the feather-row sand barrier, move along the transportation area formed by the transportation force, and accumulate as a ridge at the tail of the engineering. With increasing wind speed, the eolian erosion of the sand particles to the ground and the feather-row sand barrier is enhanced, and the sand transporting quantity and throw-over quantity of the feather-row sand barrier are both increased. When sand particles with different grain diameters bypass the feather-row sand barrier, the particle size of the infiltrating sands will increase with the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row sand barrier and the wind direction. The obtained result demonstrates that, at a constant wind speed, the flow field formed is most suitable for the lateral transportation of the wind-drift flow when the included angle between the main shaft of the feather-row sand barrier lateral transportation engineering and the wind speed is less than or equal to $30^{\circ}$.
In this study the AWS was installed in three areas to analyze creation and characteristics of local wind circulation through observation. According to the result, in night time when mountain wind is well developed showed temperature in A area located in Dalbigol valley and B area adjacent with the valley was lower than C area located in the lowland of the center of city by $1.5\sim4^{\circ}C$. The wind speed was also shown two times stronger than C area. In addition, in terms of wind direction, A and B areas showed east wind consistently according to topographic shapes of Dalbigol valley with high altitude and residential sites of lowland with low altitude. Although the C area didn't show big changes in wind direction due to the effects of city structures, east wind is often seen so mountain wind from Dalbigol valley is found to have an effect at least. Through the analysis of temperature, wind speed, and wind direction, nigh time showed relatively cold mountain wind blew following Dalbigol valley, throughout residential sites and to the center of city with lowland. During the daytime, the temperature in the city with lowland and residential sites is constantly higher than A area located in Dalbigol valley, and strong wind speed following Dalbigol valley, and three areas have $200\sim300^{\circ}$ of main wind direction, so west valley wind throughout the city with lowland and following Dalbigol is clearly formed.
Mean concentrations of ammonia gas released as a tracer from an isolated low-rise building have been measured and predicted. Predictions were calculated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and two dispersion models: a diffusion model and a Lagrangian particle tracking technique. Explicit account was taken of the natural variation of wind direction by a technique based on the weighted summation of individual steady state wind direction results according to the probability density function of the wind direction. The results indicated that at distances >3 building heights downstream the weighted predictions from either model are satisfactory but that in the near wake the diffusion model is less successful. Weighted solutions give significantly improved predictions over unweighted results. Lack of plume spread is identified as the main cause of inaccuracies in predictions and this is linked to inadequate resolution of flow features and mixing in the CFD model. Further work on non-steady state simulation of wake flows for dispersion studies is recommended.

It is well known that urban environment affects climate, as we can see in the quality of bio-climate. However, climate has not been recognised properly in the urban planning process. The role it flays needs to be examined for better urban environment. The main objective of this study is to investigate the climate-ecological priority area which produces cold fresh air and thermal induced wind circulation between rural and urban areas. The objective is also to improve the quality of bio-climate and wind circulation at blocked urban areas. This paper uses the measurement and analysis method of wind direction and wind speed in order to investigate the climate-ecological priority area and cold fresh air corridor. In this study, local climate conditions i.e. wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity etc., were measured at nine fields and analyzed. On the basis of the climate measurement, the climate ecological priority areas were delineated; These will be assigned as climate-ecological conservation areas.
A series of wind tunnel tests, including 1:50 sectional model tests, 1:50 free-standing bridge tower tests and 1:70 full-bridge aeroelastic model tests were carried out to systematically investigate the aerodynamic performance of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). The test result indicates that there are three wind-resistant safety issues the HZMB encounters, including unacceptable low flutter critical wind speed, vertical vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of the main girder and galloping of the bridge tower in across-wind direction. Wind-induced vibration of HZMB can be effectively suppressed by the application of aerodynamic and mechanical measures. Acceptable flutter critical wind speed is achieved by optimizing the main girder form (before: large cantilever steel box girder, after: streamlined steel box girder) and cable type (before: central cable, after: double cable); The installations of wind fairing, guide plates and increasing structural damping are proved to be useful in suppressing the VIV of the HZMB; The galloping can be effectively suppressed by optimizing the interior angle on the windward side of the bridge tower. The present works provide scientific basis and guidance for wind resistance design of the HZMB.
A new method is proposed in this study for estimating the damping ratio of a super tall building under strong wind loads with short-time measured acceleration signals. This method incorporates two main steps. Firstly, the power spectral density of wind-induced acceleration response is obtained by the wavelet transform, then the dynamic characteristics including the natural frequency and damping ratio for the first vibration mode are estimated by a nonlinear regression analysis on the power spectral density. A numerical simulation illustrated that the damping ratios identified by the wavelet spectrum are superior in precision and stability to those values obtained from Welch's periodogram spectrum. To verify the efficiency of the proposed method, wind-induced acceleration responses of the Guangzhou West Tower (GZWT) measured in the field during Typhoon Usagi, which affected this building on September 22, 2013, were used. The damping ratios identified varied from 0.38% to 0.61% in direction 1 and from 0.22% to 0.59% in direction 2. This information is expected to be of considerable interest and practical use for engineers and researchers involved in the wind-resistant design of super-tall buildings.

The paper describes the conceptual design, structural modelling and wind load analysis of tall buildings. The lateral stiffness of the building can be obtained economically through the interaction of core walls with peripheral frame tube and/or bundle of frame tubes and integrated design of the basement. The main structural components should be properly distributed such that the building will deflect mainly in the direction of the applied force without inducing significant response in other directions and twist. The cost effectiveness can be further enhanced through close consultation between architects and engineers at an early stage of conceptual design. Simplified structural modelling of the building and its response in three principal directions due to wind load are included. Effects of the two main structural components on the performances of a 70-story reinforced concrete building in terms of peak drift and maximum acceleration under wind load are discussed.
