Mild combustion is considered as a promising combustion technology for energy saving and low emission of combustion product gases. In this paper, the controllability of reaction region in mild combustion is examined by using co-axial air nozzle. For this purpose, numerical approach is carried out. Propane is considered for fuel and air is considered for oxidizer and the temperature of air is assumed 900K slightly higher than auto ignition temperature of propane. But unlike main air, the atmospheric condition of co-axial air is considered. Various cases are conducted to verify the characteristics of Co-Axial air burner configuration. The use of coaxial air can affect reaction region. These modification help the mixing between fuel and oxidizer. Then, reaction region is reduced compare to normal burner configuration. The enhancement of main air momentum also affects on temperature uniformity and reaction region. The eddy dissipation concept turbulence/chemistry interaction model is used with two step of global chemical reaction model.

Detailed experimental study has been made of air blast kerosene spray flames with and without swirl in combustion air flow. Phase-Doppler detect technique is used to measure Sauter mean diameter, axial component mean and rms velocity, size-velocity correlation, and number density. These measurements are obtained for both nonreacting and reacting cases under several stable flame conditions. The results show that the introduction of swirl to the combustion air modifies the spatial distribution of droplet size, velocity, and number density, and thus alters the flame structure. However, due to the weak swirl intensity, the overall structure of swirling flames are essentially same as that of nonswirling flames. Physical model of structure of air blast atomized spray flames is projected to show that spray flames are composed of three distinct regions: the two-phase mixture region, the main reaction and the intermittent combustion region. Near the atomizer, two phase mixture of droplet and air is formed in the core region. This dense spray region is characterized by high droplet number density and the strong convective effect. There follows the main combustion region where the main flame penetrates within the spray boundary. Main reaction region of these flames are governed by internal group combustion mode. Finally there exists the intermittent combustion region where local group burning or isolated droplet burning occurs.

Profiles of soot volume fraction, average diameter and particle number density have been measured using a light scattering and extinction technique in a coannular propane diffusion flame at atmosperic pressure. Temperature profiles were also obtained using a thermocouple technique. Measurements show that soot is first observed to form low in the flame in an annular region inside the main reaction zone. At higher locations this annular region widen until entire flame is observed to contain particles. Soot volume fraction and particle diameter profiles peak some 1mm on the fuel side of peak temperature and increase with height to oxidation region. Number density of the flame core drop steeply from formation region to growth region and relatively invariant to some height and decay out at flame tip.

In a turbulent premixed flame stabilized by the streamline step, and dominated by a coherent eddy, a flame micro-structure was investigated with analyzing the signals of temperature, the ion current, and schieren phtographs simultaneously. Generally the contours of large scale coherent eddies of schlieren photographs was considered as the flame front, however, the main reaction can be occurred within the eddy as a structure of fine flamelets scale. The surrounding burned gas of flamelets could not propagate to a unburned mixture, obstructing flamelets from propagating to a unburned mixture. Consequently, it could restrain flashback. The main reaction region was found to be located at higher temperature of the burned gas rather than at maximum rms of fluctuating temperature. The peak probability of higher temperature was 6 times greater than that of lower temperature. As it was difficult to infer a flame structure from PDF distribution of the fluctuating temperature in form of bimodal shape, it should be taken into consideration with other informations related to the sensitive flame front, for instance, ion current.
In this paper, we have proposed a numerical method for Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems (SPBVPs) of reaction-diffusion type of third order Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs). The SPBVP is reduced into a weakly coupled system of one first order and one second order ODEs, one without the parameter and the other with the parameter ${\varepsilon}$ multiplying the highest derivative subject to suitable initial and boundary conditions, respectively. The numerical method combines boundary value technique, asymptotic expansion approximation, shooting method and finite difference scheme. The weakly coupled system is decoupled by replacing one of the unknowns by its zero-order asymptotic expansion. Finally the present numerical method is applied to the decoupled system. In order to get a numerical solution for the derivative of the solution, the domain is divided into three regions namely two inner regions and one outer region. The Shooting method is applied to two inner regions whereas for the outer region, standard finite difference (FD) scheme is applied. Necessary error estimates are derived for the method. Computational efficiency and accuracy are verified through numerical examples. The method is easy to implement and suitable for parallel computing. The main advantage of this method is that due to decoupling the system, the computation time is very much reduced.

On the hypothesis that the unstable intermediates yield by the pre-reaction of auxiliary fuel become an initiator or an explosive center which promotes the chain reaction of main fuel, various organic compounds below $C_{10}$ are injected as an auxiliary fuel prior to main injection. In the previous papers, the effects of the auxiliary fuel additions on the ignition delay period, the stability of flame, the NO concentrations in their exhaust gases have been investigated. In the present paper, to confirm where the most suitable location of lean pre-mixture for the combustion of main fuel is, and how the lean pre-mixture is contacted with main fuel, the effects of the injection timing of auxiliary fuel and the turbulence on combustion processes are investigated. Moreover, from the schlieren and color photographs of flame in the combution field, it could be found that the ignition nuclei are formed in a wider region of main spray, and that these ignition nuclei promote the development of flame, which results in the reduction of flaming duration.
The flame stabilization and the combustion characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical bluff body with fuel injection are studied. With the turbulence generator, the flame stability limits and ion currents were measured and analyzed. The results from this experimental study are summarized as follows. The region with highest average value of ion currents in the middle of flame is moved to the upstream side by the turbulent components of main stream. The flame mass with partially active reaction is moved fast for uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, but the flame mass with relatively slow reaction is moved slowly for turbulence generator G1. If the turbulence generator with strong turbulent component is installed, the turbulent time scale is increased with movement from main stream side to recirculation zone as well as the flame stability limits is deteriorated. Though the special dominant frequency is not appeared in the eddy which exists in flame, high frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, and low frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow, turbulence generator G3 and G1.
In this work, $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized using $N_2-diluted$ and Oxygen-enriched coflow hydrogen diffusion flames. The effect of flame temperature on the characteristics of the formed $TiO_2$ nanoparticles was investigated. The measured maximum centerline temperature of the flame ranged from 2,103 K for oxygen-enriched flame to 1,339 K for $N_2-diluted$ flame. The visible flame length and the height of the main reaction zone were characterized by direct photographs. The characteristics of synthesized $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were analyzed by SEM and TEM images. From these images, it was evident that the formed nanoparticles were divided into two sorts. In the higher temperature region, over the 1,700 K, $TiO_2$ nanoparticles having spherical shapes with diameters about 60 nm were synthesized. In the lower temperature region, below the 1,600 K, the diameters of formed nanoparticles having unclear boundaries were ranged from 35 - 50 nm.

The attractive features of photosynthetic reaction center proteins for energy application make them useful in solar energy conversion to hydrogen fuel or electrical energy. Almost unity charge separation quantum yield and its rapid speed of ~1ns, absorbance region in visible light (480~740 nm) and high proportion of photosynthetically active solar energy of 48.5% allowed photosystem1 to exploited as a bio-material for photo-energy devices. Directionality of photosystem1 in electron transfer can solve main problem in two-step water splitting process where back reaction deteriorates the overall efficiency. In the study, photosystem1 was extracted from spinach and the photo-induced excited electron in the reaction center was utilized in various field of light energy application. First, hydrogen evolving system realized by photodeposition of platinum at the end of the electron transfer chain, with combining specific semiconductor to oxidize water in the first step of Z-scheme. The evaluation by gas-chromatography demonstrated hydrogen evolution through the system. For the further application of photoelectrical material on electrode, photosystem1 have been controlled by copper ion, which is expected to assemble photosystem in specific orientation followed by maximized photoelectrical ability of film. The research proposed concrete methods for combining natural protein and artificial materials in one system and suggested possibility of designing interface between biological and inorganic materials.
The stabilization characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical flame holder were investigated. Distribution of turbulence intensity, concentration distribution of combustion gas, and ion currents were measured. The turbulence intensity in the wake of cylindrical- game holder is increased with increase of diameter or blockage ratio of grid. If the auxiliary fuel is injected into recirculation zone, the concentration of $C_3H_8$ is high, but the concentration of $CO_2$ is low at the boundary of recirculation zone.
